My personal opinion is that anarcho punk is filled with romantics, poets and lovers.
Anarchism itself is a romantic idea.
That "so what" no matter how much hate Steve Ignorant put on that page. Is a representation of his love.
Religion kills and enslaves. The government kills and enslaves. You do not put that much hatred and frustration and angst onto paper. Unless you didn't love those who are being killed and enslaved.
Even if they frustrate him. Steve, like all anarchists inherently love human beings and wish to see allpeople free. He wishes to see mankind free, to love and be themselves.
I believe you see the anger, but you do not see as I do. That anger is passion, and passions is love.
Love doesn't have to between two sentient beings. It can exist for ideas, for art, for ourselves.

Even the most misanthropic crust bands still have a deep love. They hate humans for destroying the planet that they love. They hate man for keeping them from the freedom they love. Etc etc etc.

No matter what, it's that undying love, the flame. That idea we live for. Even nihilists are romantics in guise. No one fully dedicates themselves like that. If they are not fully In love.

I absolutely hate, probabaly a lot of the same things you do. Most days I am a walking ball of fury and rage. Ready for a fight at the drop of a hat. But it's not truly hate. Hate causes this fire. But love for animal equality, for a world without a free market, to be free of a taker culture. I am dedicated fully to ideas. Because I love them.

But again this is all really relative and a matter of a opinion. I just see a lot of passion. I guess you don't.
I'm not saying casualties are all similar or even near the same level as crass. Crass wrote love songs. Casualties write songs ABOUT love. Very different.

I hate everything that exists today
The constructs of this world makes us prisoner or slaves
Everything is made just to fill up space
Until they can put us in our fucking graves

I am anti-everything this world holds true
No faith in the system, disagree I'm anti-you

I love the potential that I see
Our chances to rise beyond mediocrity
But I'm so fucking sick of these people getting by
If you love the fucking system then you love a fucking lie

I am anti-everything this world holds true
No faith in the system, disagree I'm anti-you

    I'm pro-potential and I have a dream
But this world is a nightmare and it makes me scream
I see the potential and I have a dream
But the world is a peace of shit and I'm anti-everything

I wrote this song about 7 years ago. I understand completely where you're coming from. And I'm sure you can see that the message is that I hate what the world is because I love what it could be. I just can't believe that you don't see what the original poster ("I don't like love songs" - obviously meaning "I don't like songs about love, or holding hands or whatever") or what I'm saying - that is, I like a lot of negative songs (songs about hating things). Doom might hate bastard police because they love the idea of a world without them but they still hate the fuckers! And they hate them very fucking passionately. Bakunin: "The passion for destruction is also a creative passion." It's still bloody destructive though, isn't it! And a hate song is still a hate song, no matter how many loving principles are based in its original inspiration.

So what the hell does that prove? I could pick four songs at random and say exactly the same thing. There are a lot of wonderful anarcho-punk love songs. Love and hate are not discrete concepts. Think of them as a massive venn diagram. Anybody who's trying to save the world with an angry song falls in the middle somewhere. I'm not saying everybody should write about their "baby", but I'm not saying everybody should write about the apocalypse either.

Plus, I don't really mind your point of view, since you seem responsive to this argument. I was really just trying to talk some sense to "ihateusernames", who was espousing such an adolescent and unromantic idea.

The songs were to counter this:
This was my original response to you.

My original point was that the dismissal of songs about love originally was probably for clichéd pop songs and not a complete blanket rejection of ALL love songs. Likewise, I've not said they're can't be anarchist love songs or that love songs are bad. I like my songs to be political but it's not a prerequisite. However, I think to say that all punk songs are love songs and, therefore, NOT hate songs, is daft. And just to show I have a heart, this song practically makes me weep everytime.

That and Compliments of Your Waitress always get me going. And fair enough, as I said, I was just trying to counter the argument that love songs were inherently bad, which I felt that ihateusernames was saying, in a sort of chaos panx-y kind of way. Maybe he wasn't, and was just of the opinion that the love songs of Britney and Justin are full of shit- I don't have much to go on.

This is why I put forward the idea of a Venn diagram to represent the concepts. As I said, they're not discrete and there are degrees of intersection that are worth examining. But, it also leaves room for a bunch of stuff to not fit into the middle, and in fact be much closer to the view you're supporting.

The Casualties are one of those bands that I can't stop listening to. The music is fast and loud. I like fast and loud music. "Up The Punx" is old as shit. Since then the lyrics have changed and matured. Once they were about drinking and getting fucked up. Now they have some political influence and are about unity. And just to get it out there. The song 'Leaders of Today" is not about calling the punks the leaders of today. It's about politicians. Now if you really want to hear a band that has really changed their sound you should give The Rabble a listen to. Holy shit.

Yes, I like to get something out of my music have it prove points. I say this because if you are singing about how you love your wife how is this benifiting me? Nevertheless if i like the song i will listen to it because it is a good song no matter what it is about.

Honestly i regret saying hating love songs because that really is a soulless thing because as you guys have said love is everything no matter what way you look at it me looking at it as a relationship when really if you think about it in some way all music can teach you something therefore benefiting you.

Casualties, they're catchy but they're clearly, to quote Stza "fashion punks". They don't promote hate but they don't really promote anything other than drinking and uniting, but they never say what they're uniting against. They're not my favorite but I don't feel strongly about them in any way. My views on The Exploited are the band members themselves seem to be fence-sitters, but I still like the album Punks Not Dead (that's their only album I really got into)

If Jorge doesn't drink, singing about drinking makes him somewhat of a hypocrite.

I'm not supposed to drink now because of a traumatic brain injury I suffered 3 years back, but I do anyway. I still endorse it and love songs about it. Alcoholic Heros by Runnin Riot is one of my favorites. It's doesn't matter if you don't drink it. If you still like alcohol for what it is, sing or talk all you want about it. Now if Jorge was straight edge and singing about, then he would be a hypocrite.

True enough, I don't drink much anymore because it makes me obnoxious but I still tell people to "Rock The 40oz".

Personally I like the Casualties but they are also one of the easiest bands to make fun of too. Songs like Up the Punx or the Oi Song makes me question their intelligence and it seems that they can't go one album without making a song about punks. There are some good songs though.
