im sorry, i know im gunna get shit but i feel like i have to say it. Im tired of always hearing people complain about high school. yes, it fucking sucks, we all know that. I went to a shitty fucking high school where i would get suspended for forgetting to fucking shave, it sucks. but it ends, i would honestly love to be back in high school and have those petty problems to worry about then the ones i have now.

I know I'm a little late here but I gotta say that I disagree with the statement that the school system is sexist. While it's definitely true that the bans on shirts that express view points or support controversial bands are absolute bull shit, the dress code rules that protect "modesty" so to speak are not the real problem. You can't really call schools sexist when society is what's sexualizing young girls anyway. Women's rights are violated by the manner in which the media portrays them; it basically brainwashes them into thinking they have to be those objects. The girls may want to dress that way, sure, but they only want to do that because the mass media has told them that's what women are for.
So what violates the rights of women more? Being brainwashed to dress in a promiscuous fashion or being prevented from doing so by the rules of the school? I'm not even sure, but I do think that the school system in this instance is trying to respond to a problem created by western physical beauty ideals, doing so by trying to instill more individualist value into young women by focusing more on what they have to offer mentally rather than how good they look in their short shorts. It is definitely fair to say that the school is violating their rights, but so is the media, and the intentions of the school system in this instance are ultimately better. Tl;dr: I respectfully disagree that the school system is sexist, it's just bureaucratic and stupid.

So, should they reintroduce school uniforms?

I think (s)he meant dress codes, not uniforms. I guess theres kind of a difference.

I don`t know, you should be able to wear what you want without being branded as a slut. Then again you don`t necessarily have to dress in a provocative way to be called one. I`ve never really thought of that, one one hand I don`t like the fact that girls let themselves become objectified by wearing those kind of clothes, and on the other you should be able to wear what you want without that happening.

I'm going to go a bit off-topic here, I don't know if you guys hear about these things in the news but there was an incident (there were others as well) here in south africa where a mini-bus taxi driver stopped his taxi and himself and a bunch of other men who were with him inside the taxi got off and pulled a girl, who was wearing "provocative" clothing out of the taxi and stripped her naked to "punish" her. There's quite a big issue here about shit like that happening because some people have these twisted ideas about their cultural "traditions" and what they should allow.
Here's a link to similar shit that's been going on

There's more. There's this practice which occurs in and around the townships and informal settlements, which is known as "corrective rape", where lesbians are raped by groups of guys in order to "make them come right" as they call it.

    www.change.org/petitions/south-africa-take-action-to-stop-corrective-rape
Or just do your own search, there's lots of info on the web. Has nobody heard of this??

Believe it or not, back in the time my high school director was a racist fascist sympathetic to the neo-nazis in school. He persecuted me because i wore anti-nazi t-shirts and pretended it was against schools rule even if i pointed out there was no rule against it. I resisted for months, going to school with anti-nazi t-shirts and even making a DIY t-shirts written "this school censors anti-racist symbol, there is no freedom of speech". I finally got banned from the school forever because i didn't comply with the rules.

So that's why i never finished my highschool.

The schools walls had a nice spraypaint job not so long after i got kicked out, and some broken windows :lmao:

    BTW, fuck Green Day.

My school actually has a specific rule against Satanic imagery. Now, I'm not a Satanist in any way, but it's fucked up that they can make a rule banning just one specific religious symbol, especially because most of what is considered "Satanic imagery" historically has absolutely nothing to do with Satanism.

I haven't ever seen this before. Appalling, though I'm not really surprised that's a common occurrence. I doubt a petition will make any difference (they rarely ever do).
I reckon South Africa could probably benefit from the formation of a serious BashBack! chapter.

is the satanic faith that wide-spread though? I can get why they don`t want it in schools, the imagery is pretty morbid and all. I guess the faith isn`t really considered a real faith, its pretty underground anyway.

haha, and for the whole getting kicked out thing, you go. nicely done, i`m sure they enjoyed the broken windows!

Well there've been a number of protests and there was one recently in front parliament but these, along with the petitions are all aimed at the government to get it to recognize these acts as hate crimes.
Would you try to target these perpetrators directly with a BashBack! I'm not sure exactly how that works?

Yeah, I don't think satanism can be considered a faith, but then most people who wear satanic images on their shirts couldn't really be described as real satanists anyway, I don't think.

I can understand why they wouldn't want something morbid or violent, but simply an upside-down cross or a pentagram? (I know that isn't an actual satanic symbol, but it's associated with it now) If the shirt or symbol isn't harmful, than someone should still have the right to wear it.

and by the way, i would think satanism would be a viable religion. even if it isnt that popular. lavayen satanism is well known still. and there is a church of satan. so i would most definitely still count it a real religion. but shouldnt get banned still, as long as they arent pushing their religion on other people.

But isn`t the upside down cross meant to be disrespectful towards christians? I know they used to wear them upside-down in respect, but that changed(?). Anyway, in a country that is mostly christian I get why they`d get offended by a t-shirt with an inverted cross on it. Actually don`t think that many people know about LaVey or the religion in general. I honestly don`t know much about the church of satan either, but I can imagine most people aren`t exactly informed about it. I`m by no means defending them(christians or schools) btw, I really don`t care that much. I also think satanism is just as pointless as any other religion.

Well, short history lesson, the upside down cross used to be a christian symbol like you said, and St. Peter was crucified on one, but it's definitely an anti-Christian symbol now. But what I'm saying is that it's unfair to target a specific religion or belief because it will offend a lot of people. If they had a rule that said you can't wear any religious symbol because it might offend someone, that would have still been bullshit, but at least fair. I agree though, Satanism is as silly and pointless as any organized religion, I just think it's wrong to ban someone from wearing a symbol because it would offend the majority.

I would argue that I consider the actual christian symbol of the cross to be just as offensive to me.
