So I go to church usually every week with my Mom and my siblings (which I think is a small price to pay for free food and a roof over my head) and we decided to try this non-denominational church out. It was alright, but I noticed something a bit weird about this Church. Usually when I go to church the preach and talk about the lord (and I don't mind it), but this new place literally spent more time talking about loving your church and being part of a religious community than any of that usual preachy bull-shit other churches spew. They would have this indie-rock sounding band composed of the church community to play during the mass and I think it was to create a pleasant feel to make the followers more complaint. They were literally brain-washing them by giving them this powerful sense of community and unifying them under this one leader (the preacher). Does this remind you of another leader who used nationalism to brain-wash others to get what he wanted?

Are you a christian? As you know you can be a christian without taking any of this control shit, Jesus was an anarchist and a revolutionary. Im not a christian myself but Im free thinking enough to see right through the social control of peers and look at religion with my own eyes. You dont have to conform to a scene's ideology when it comes to religion. Its a personal belief as long as it stays personal. Would it be any better if it was a punk band playing?! Have you heard of 'Death To The World' - a punk orthodox christian site? Heavy and punk as fuck and christian !! Its pretty unorthodox considering it's orthodox, haha! Take a peek if you dare!

I was talking mainly about Hitler, but also all of the manipulative people who have burrowed into society and taken control by prying on people's emotions. I am not really a Christian, but I think I can relate with some Hindu/Buddhist beliefs of reincarnation and the balance of good and evil, but I wouldn't want to ever consider myself a Hindu or Buddhist. I also don't feel there is one major God controlling our every move. I wasn't trying to really slander the Christian church, but that stuff is extremely manipulative and I feel could be pretty effective negatively towards the youth who attend that church. I mean that church talks about community and friendship and forgiveness, but I am pretty sure if I went dressed in my ragged looking pants, torn up shoes, and flip hat, that they would look at me in disgust. Just kind of pisses me off that the church can tell there followers a message, but the message only applies to that specific group of people.

I would say that it isnt just a question of nationalism or any individual person; people, in general, use emotional responses to influence others. However, I wish to say that everyone does this. Orateurs, media, parents, salesmen, even yourself. Allow me to present a little biology, the amygdala is the part of the brain that manages the emotional response of people to different situation, controls empathy, and is critical in the development of a social group. It is also one of the oldest parts; also known as the "reptilian brain." My point is that people are more affected by emotion than logic. Logic is a relatively new, resulting in cognitive reasoning.

Manipulators are very skilled at exploiting this fact, which I experienced back when I attended catholic mass.

i grew up in ireland where religion is more about which side are you on catholic and protestant.which caused me to have hatred of organised religion.but i have a belief in a higher power i think everyone truly does but i dont think you need to go to mass to show it i keep it personal and individual to myself its a powerful thing.i always viewed it as a weakness to believe or for old people scared of dieing but feel good about it now.

I remember my childhood in the Catholic church, and at age 8 being asked what horrid sins have I committed. I had no clue what sins were and why I had to memorize so many prayers. I'll never forget the day during a service when a woman kept talking to someone on the side (now that's I'm older I'm going to assume this woman was a drunk) and these people dressed up as angels escorted her out while grabbing her, she was crying and everyone just stared in silence as this happened. It was bizarre, along with a lot of other borderline culty stuff I didn't understand at the time.

The problem with much of organised religion - christianity and catholicism in particular is that the mainstream faith is completely divorced from the original teachings of their founding fathers and mothers. Whether it was Jesus, Buddha, Mohammad, Lao Tsu, or whatever prophet or sage, these individuals had a mystical understanding of reality - union with the Ultimate, or Reality, call it what you will. They often were in direct conflict with the prevailing authority of their times. The path that developed from the expression and teachings of the Truth can only hope to mimic the lives and realisations of the founders. Unfortunately, having not experienced this Gnosis themselves, the most their followers or disciples can do is live by a set of imposed rules and values. Teachings get twisted, distorted, and eventually bear little relationship to the original message. It is ironic that religions become powerful tools of control, becoming the new set of masters that their founders had rejected. Each person needs to find their own path based on their own experience of the Divine, or Sacred, or Ultimate, or 'Thusness' or Tao, or Way, etc etc. Pure spirituality or gnosis is without imposed rules, outside authority, or artificial heirarchy, it is an individual path to liberation and freedom. Much like Anarchism.

Organized religions are a perversion of the truth, namely that we are all one with the Divine. Religion divides people instead of uniting them. It's a classic example of the blind leading the blind.
