The band always bored me to sleep, they had a few good songs, but I never could force myself to sit trough a whole record.

When I hear Audioslave in the media I always find their sound more appealing than RATM...

Bands like RATM are fairly important because they are exposing everyday people to "radical" ideas.

See, I like people like Rage and Chumba and against me! and Billy Bragg and Guthrie and Utah Phillips and Loop Troop...They appeal to a much different crowd than most anarchist music.

I mean..Whats the harm of a bunch of teenagers getting into anarchism through mainstream music? I dont see one. Some may stick with it, some wont, but its the same for bands like CRASS too...Basically everyone who claimed they were "anarchists" in highschool are not even close to that anymore. Plus I actually like Rage's music (i.e. Bulls on parade, bombtrack etc.). The song he did with the DJ/producer Roni Size was awesome "center of the storm"..I think thats what its called.

they are not the only band spreading ideas and are nu wave commie, hopeless, I think its ok to say its free to listen to them but after the first album during teens i turned off due to more thought put into it specially when they push a view that doesn't appear true sometimes rather than just 'i like this', i like nazi uniforms too but ya know, soz for the strong analogy but its no less true or i'd b listening to all the gang of four albums all the time, not a good idea

I agree sum anarchos r far 2 harsh on em, jst makes them dim like anybody else in my opinion, i dn't botha as they r rightious and nobodies that rightious

i mean why be an anarchist from an artistic point of view if only the musics ok but i dodn't needta buy the albums etc, mrr explained this in a pamphlet called, your friends are already this fucked , very well, the pathces, only stupid bastards support emi, la fractions statement only stupid bands use myspace, from my artistic point of view i'm still out on that one or else all music should be free as well as free money but ya know, the net has changed some rules, maleability, anarchy, free

and yes i got into anarchism through the sex pistols and nirvana not through any individualist, no matter what some silly selfish coopted mindset anarcho might think, art should seek the truth which is why i can't support ratm for the most

i'd rather support someone who was honest or not so nieve about their intentions if at all as it would mean they were thinking for themself but the art better not suck or talk total dribble, i don't like mediocrity purely for the sake of it, total dumbing down nup, we already have malls, they can't have my art rarrrrrr haha

I'm pretty sure the band wouldnt spend all the time they have doing private activism if they didnt really care. Especially Tom and Zach..Tom has a BA or a masters (cant remember) in political science from harvard and zach's grandpa was part of the mexican revolution. I dunno. I dig their music, but thats cause I dig hip hop (amongst other things). But as far as anarchist hip hop goes? Try Loop Troop.

I like Tom Morello's style of guitar playing.

RATM also deliver socially relevant issues that broke out through the mainstream, a channel that is alien to the underground.

The best thing Zack Ze Roche did was when he left the band, i still get a kick outa hearem once and a while but life lessons nup and thats how a 'mainstream' audience sees em and rage never go .... furtherrr, i don't like shell sponsoring womad etc, it comes from a common commie view that since eveythings fucked, u can do wat u like unti the time comes but the world don't work like that at all and communism in its purest form becomes tyrannical because the people can't think for themselves for the most part, mobism sets in while the record compnay thanks you for all your money, i'm not saying you have to be pure but RATM get wayyy too much creedance. i cud go on about the sex pistols... for dayzzz, hardly.

they're getting a political statement across to the mainstream. No matter how good your lyrics/message are, if you play in an anarcho punk band you'll be playing to anarcho punks. Why not break out of the circle jerk. This is another instance where exclusivity and elitism is destroying the anarcho movement. People want to be "more anarchic" than each other, and don't want the mainstream to latch on to the ideas, but then spend all day talking about the revolution which can never happen as long as the scene stays exclusive.

As for the major label thing, bands don't make any money out of major label deals, record companies do, but nowadays nobody buys, everybody downloads, so it's actually more punk to have a deal with a major today as they will spend all the money and get nothing back, while you survive on their advance and on ticket and Tshirt sales.
    Vive le punx.

ya dreamin haha, all i meant is they get too much creedance when others have come before them and still do, theres also the attitude of many that punk rock won't save the world, it may help but how much and so on and so on

u sound like a fan attic, thats wat fan means haha

I actually don't really like their music. I've never been into them, but i certainly appreciate what they've done in terms of opening a lot of peoples eyes to radical humanist politics who otherwise never would have heard of half of the things they sing about.

I do like their music. Zack is a good emcee. Its not like Rage doesnt acknowledge others before them. I mean they dont throw a crass tribute show...But its not like everyone doesnt know he was in INSIDE OUT. I really like the hip hop he did after Rage too.

I dodn't why they get so much creedance by being mentioned 'here', from another blog: "My only gig let down was at the Reading Festival in the UK last year. Rage Against the Machine were playing and they were enjoyable enough, but the singer kept going on and on about how much he hates George Bush and George Bushs' policies. So I said 'eff this, I came to hear music not go to a policial rally' and had to push my way past about 100,000 people. Went to the dance tent and it was all sunshine and lollypops." - the genral sentiment of the general populace o i question some of their politics not their art

um u missed my last post and i agree with you but individual bands haven't done more than many most times and they are not at the forefront of much, such as nirvana aren't at the forefront which could be argued till the cows come home amongst fans, crass was a forerunner, the clash, the sex pistols, saint vittus, the buzzcocks, exterme noise terror, discharge, dri, motorhead and yea i like new banz too, too many bands to mention to give more creedance than they deserve, i've already sed yea i like sum and yea its your choice and yea they 'help' but o for awseome, naaaa, they're obstensibly not even anarchist in nature hey how about bob dylan or velvet underground ooh haha, i could argue the rolling stones aren't foreruners casue they are basically thieves and they have good stuff too and how anarchist r they, they spread liberal ideas though

I've never seen him, but i'm pretty sure he's played with Evan Greer and maybe even Tom Frampton, i think Street Sweeper Social Club has to, 'cause i'm pretty sure Boots Riley was involved as well ... pretty sure I read it somewhere or saw some picture or something...
