Here in North Carolina there has been a real big debate on a new "Amendment". This Amendment basically says that gays will not be able to marry and there are some other points to it, but the main one is the gay marriage. I don't really care for marriage but when it comes to the religious asshole getting their way, I am all against that. :ecouteurs: The voting took place yesterday and the title of this topic says it all. The bigots won and now gay people can marry here in NC. I fucking hate religion, and this is one of the reasons why. They think they are protecting families with this shit too. How the fuck are they protecting people? And also they call it Amendment 1. What the fuck? Now I don't support the constitution BUT they are trying to associate this new law with the freedom Amendment. They want to forget about separation of church and state and claim that this has nothing to do with it, but their fucking religion brought it up in the first place. This pisses me off. Apparently 65% of the people in NC are homophobic bigots. While the rest of us are kinda supportive people. You can read more about it here. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scottie-thomaston/north-carolina-amendment-1-poll_b_1449287.html

i know i hate it when religious freaks say that they are trying to protected marriage !!! if they really were trying to protect it they wouldn't let people get divorce just look at the statistics and you'll see that alarming rate people are getting divorced. and another thing that i hate about the mainstream gays that they supported all these famous celebrities when there getting married and divorced and usually lasting no more than a year. being a gay man for me its a slap in the face and pretty much making fun of the whole issue.

I live in NC too. I remember discussing how there were other implications to the amendment, how it can hurt seniors, children, etc. It's mind baffling how someone could look at the whole thing and not see it as evil and stupid. The night it passed I was absolutely livid.

Why does the issue even matter like it does to the conservatives? Also, how is it that they think they're the final word in what defines any idea?

for many people marriage is just a romantic way to have rights, in many states not married couples have no rights so to get married is just a chance to have them.
    unfortunately traditions win always.

Like I said before. I don't really care about marriage, but it's Christian rite trying to take over the world that pisses me off. What also pisses me off about it is that only key cities in NC got to vote on the matter. Which ones I forget. I guess not everyone gets to have a voice on the matters that matter. Can you finish this phrase? "Life, liberty and the pursuit of __________." I bet the Christian rite can't.

I dont understand why people are opposed to same sex marriage. it shouldnt even be a topic to discuss.its ridiculous. most people who are against it are religious and they might say marriage is between a man and women. and say marriage is founded on christian beliefs and is a testimony to god for your love for one another. but if you really want it to be only christian based people getting married, why dont you ban marriage for an atheist couple. or people of Muslim faith. or any other religion.and why let people get divorced. its obviously sinfull to say you'lle forever love this person and then divorce them a year later. why not just let christian faithed people marry and no one else. they can keep their marriage anyways, and all other people can create a new ceremony to symbolize love between two individuals. and we'll call it a whole new name and everything.

I dont even think marriage is necessary anyways. if you love someone you dont really need a priest and a church full of people to solidify your love. and spend thousands of dollars on a wedding dress and other things. but i respect if someone feels the need too though. i particularly do not care for myself getting married. same sex marriage shouldn't even be a subject to discuss its so ridiculous. it literally has no effect on anyone else if two men get married or are gay. people are just prejudiced if they try to stop a man from being gay. this is why homophobia pisses me off so much.

The christian institution has no control over other religions.
But I totally agree, if you love each other you don't need some certificate to prove it. I've never been pro-marriage. you see it happen so often, a couple can live together happily for years but as soon as they get married, they start to take each other for granted, the mutual respect disappears, they begin to feel trapped, one starts cheating on the other and the whole thing ultimately ends in divorce. Bam! So what's the point? I'm not saying this doesn't happen outside of marriage but at least it's cheaper in the end. The only practical reason for marriage is for the protection of the child but with the current divorce rate that benefit seems obsolete anyway.
And I guess some gold-diggers could benefit from marriage.
