A massive plague would be loads of fun! :ecouteurs:

On a similar (yet unrelated to the whole 2012 crapload) note... if you're interested (like i am) in this kind of stuff, you should absolutly check out this incredibly well done movie called "Ever Since The World Ended". It is done in a documentarian style under the premise of life 12 years post- the collapse of civilization.... centering around the daily lives of a community of survivors living in the remains of the San Francisco bay area. Very well done and in a very realistic sense in a modern rather than speculated futuristic setting. Also the documentary style allows for a wide variety of perspectives on the situation to be expressed... one of the most reveling being that of the youth, growing and learning in this "New" World, who unlike the majority of the others have no recollection and thus no desire for the civilized world long gone and all of its fading amenities...

So chech it out, one of my favorite movies, quite thought provoking... What you have to do is watch it and then listen to Panopticon's (whose first album is up here) "Collapse" album (That I will indeed post soon if some one does not beat me to it) and then see what you think... Good stuff!

An ex friend of mine is obsessed about this stuff. He's ben prepaering for this stuff for years now, I find it kind of sad.

If it happens, it happens, so what. I know enough skills to help myself survive if it does.

myth. unless, of course, you're talking about a man-made marker denoting the end of one cycle of planetary motion and the beginning of another. THAT part is real. ;)

otherwise, i wouldn't worry too much. the world is always ending for someone all the time. for some folks, it's the loss of a job, for some it's the loss of political group's bid for power, for some, it appears to be the idea of gays getting married, for some it's the loss of a relationship, for some it's a cataclysmic storm. the end of the world is a rather personal thing, and much like the end of a calendar, it's not so much an end-end, it's change. which can be violent and frightening for the person experiencing it, or barely noticed at all.

for the most part, i agree with an earlier comment--it's something that some people are using to take advantage of other's anxieties.

I am almost sure there is SOMETHING to it. Here's a few points/facts.

1.It is well known that we are beggining a new solar cycle in 2013, as well as the fact that we'll be having a record breaking solar storm. These things could very well change the world physically.

2.Some believe the world's axis may shift which would cause complete havoc

3.Some people believe it is simply an astrological change into the age of aquarius (the time when we stop caring about shit like material possessions).

4.The world does seem to be heading towards an end right now. After Waco, 9/11, the patriot act etc. the whole One world government thing is kind of believable.

The Mayans were incredible at predicting events and noticing cycles. They were extremely in touch with the natural world.

Nostradamus and certain native american groups believed the same thing as the Mayans.

I believe something major will happen around that time which will be the final event that causes us to sink or swim. We cant just keep going on the way we have been, and I believe we're due for a cosmic ass kicking.

In the end I dont think it will be the end of the world (they believed the world had ended a few times before technically), but I think it will be the end of the old way of thought.

We started with survivalism, then moved into cooperating with others, forming towns and villages, then into farming and mass producing, industrialization, corporatism, greed, materialism....The cycle is over and its time to start again. Im not a primitivist but it just seems like where we're headed.

It's something to look forward to.

However, I don't believe that it's gonna be the end of the world.

The planet is about 8,000,000,000,000 years old and mankind's existence is only about 10,000 (correct me if I'm wrong here.) So, we only have been here for merely a moment relative to the planet's age. The age of dinosaurs ended but still, the Earth continued spinning and life survived.

If a cataclysm would happen it would not happen in this lifetime... Exactly what the Mayans predicted - not in their lifetime.

... And if I am wrong, it would not matter 'coz we're all dead.

The world can't end, supposedly I'm going to die at the ripe old age of 32 (a friend of mine told me this ones... apparently the spirits told him) and in 2012 I'll either be 25 or 26, if we're going with the somethingth of December, that'd be 26. :p

I think it's really fuckin lazy to believe in an easy way out for the human race, this is one of the fundemental problems with Judeo-Christian beliefs..they say "we're waiting for the rapture" well thats real conveniant to not give a fuck about this earth. Unfortunately for mankind it seems to be ingrained in our psyche, since the begining of our time we've been waiting for and predicting the end. Its a lot harder to realize that we've only been here for a fraction of the time of this planet and we're not going anywhere anytime soon. The sooner we collectively realize that we have a long hard fought rode ahead of us the sooner we can implement solutions to our overwhelming problems...oh and by the way the Mayans that are still around laugh at the misconception of their philosiphies by modern doomsayers

There has been shiftings of energy earlier as the mayans has predicted and i am sure something will happen. The end of the world doesn't have to meen the planet will expload or all of mankind will die, it can be an energyshift that will get more people to head the right direction, seeing they can't go on the way they have, seeking for something else than just money.
One scenario that is not totally unlikely and that i would really like, is a crash of the economical system all over the world. Since most money today only exist digitally it would only take an electrical closedown for... well not even very long, for moneyto loose all value. The ones with the money would all of a sudden have nothing, we who don't have much would have more (of cause the richies would still have cars and tvs and shit but without electricity it won't do them any good for very long). I'm seeing a real possibility for true anarchy to come about from this!
For a while there would of cause be cops and civilians too trying to keep society as it is but most people would soon go crazy and we would have a mad max scenario for a while (hopefully not with those awefull wasp-pants) but then... Anarchy! :ecouteurs:
Maybee a little much to hope for but i am totally excited and really want to see what'll happen!
An other theory to the date, depending on how the mayan calendar is red, is november 28 2011, so best to be prepared then just in case!

If the world is going to be destroyed it's going to be by the millions upon millions of capitalists firing nuclear weapons at each other from the other side of the world. As far as i'm concerned I plan to be in amsterdam smoking a shops worth of grade.

The end of the world would be something to be proud of.
We are the group of humans who are apart of it.
there it is the finish line!!
    its kind of romantic.
but I doubt it. when was the last time
    cool things happened?

Hell. I missed the birth of punk and I witnessed the dramatic, anti-climactic increase of emo's in Holland instead... it can't get much worse than that....
