    These may help (all vegan)

Basically, it's cheap and easy to eat a healthy balanced non-animal diet (I've been doing it for 26+ years) - just include plenty of fruit and veg, some beans / grains / nuts / rice / pasta / bread / tofu or similar protein, lots of herbs and spices, a small delicious but not necessarily nutritious daily treat, a big dollop of creativity and a willingness to get dirty, play and learn as you go along. You may not end up with a fully edible result every time, but you'll be wiser.

Try getting hold of 'Soy Not Oi!' for a total punkrock cooking experience! Also worth checking out are the vegan books from Microcosm, particularly 'Please Don't Feed The Bears' and 'Hot Damn & Hell Yeah / The Dirty South'.

    Have fun!

There's a big difference between nutritional yeast flakes and ordinary yeast. You can't use one instead of the other :)

You should be able to find nutritional yeast flakes in wholefood / healthfood stores. Some bulk food stores may also have it in bins so you can weigh your own. In the US I think the main brand is known as Red Star.

If you are serious about animal rights skip the vegetarian part and go vegan! It's easy, and eventually you will become a compulsive label reader.

    Here's some good resources:

http://veganfreak.com/ (look out for the second edition of their book which is due out soon, they also put on an excellent podcast, the earlier ones have some awesome music like Nausea, antischism etc)

http://altveg.blogspot.com/ ( the blog of Dino Sarmani, the author of 'Alternative Vegan' which is an excellent book if you are wanting cheap meals)

    Also check out these books:

Introduction to Animal Rights: Your Child or the Dog by Gary Francione

Making A Killing: The Political Economy of Animal Rights by Bob Torres.

    Cheers.
