Both? If you like both sounds then you just answered your own question. Your views don't necessarily have to correlate to every single piece of music you listen to. I'm completely atheist but I enjoy Gregorian chants because they sound neat. Do your own thing and don't give two fucks about what connections are made between your own personal being and any aspect of the music. I like old Hawaiian-esque western style country from the 40s but I would very rapidly disagree with the vast majority of both fans of that type of music and the artists who made it, I'm sure, but I still love it because it sounds awesome and has a nostalgia to it. The reason why I would be very different from any of those individuals is because it was a long time ago. That being said, Hank Williams Senior was actually a liberal in his day and his son is just a fucking idiot. Not that that is what I was describing really, but yeah you get the idea.

Honestly, right now I hate about 85% of the punk music I was attached to growing up because it only reminds me of the dismal years of my youth and also because some of it I just can't stand listening to. That being said I still love some of what I was into when I was a teenager. Do what makes you happy and comfortable and fulfills your ethical standards of existence.

    Become a punk-hippie & call yourself a pippie. :p
I reckon it would depend on your attitude & the style of music you prefer, whether you like glue or mushrooms (I'm kidding) because essentially we're all on the same side.
But first and foremost - be yourself.

I went through the same dilemma last year (coincidentally I was 14 as well). I liked ska, reggae, and maybe some mainstream punk bands like The Ramones and the Pistols. I switched school's and I started hanging out with a thrasher and a crustie and I started liking Crust Punk. I just slowly started dressing like a crust punk I guess, but I didn't wake up one day and say, "Hey I'm going to be an Anarchist crustie." I became the person I am today because I always had that anarchist attitude somewhere deep inside me. Just go with the flow man. If you find yourself wanting to wear tie-dye shirts and loose pants just dress like that, but if you find yourself wanting buy a punk shirt, get a bondage belt, and some skinny jeans, then crack open a beer and come party with the rest of the anarchist society.

Are there even still kids today who call themseves hippies? I have never met any but then you do have some hipster girls who adopt "hippie chic" fashion in Paris. At school, even the spotty kids with long greasy hair who were into Manu bloody Chao, Bob Marley and what they called "world music" (meaning, any bollocks that came from a country that is both poor and sunny) didn't call themselves hippies, though they had those dodgy Woodstock fantasies in which they changed the world just smoking joints, wearing colourful clothes and playing bongos.

A lot of hippies got into the goa/psytrance scene, at least in my corner of the globe. Although not all (psy)trancers are hippies.

A lot of hipsters I consider the poser children of hippies. It kills me deep inside when I see trendy kids nowadays wearing shirts with peace signs. Like when I see "skaters" wearing anarchy signs.

It is kinda off-putting but I suppose, but like, who am I to say they can't believe in peace even if they are trendy :p .
You have to remember the context in which the original hippies came about. It was the times of the vietnam war and these people were fed-up with the whole political situation, the inequality of minorities and just the whole attitude of their parents' generation. Different times, then the punks took over.
I know what you mean though, it's sad to the the "taming" of these very radical & underground subcultures.

Most of those hippies of the 60's are conformists now. Look at Hillary C. And Bill Clinton's quote still cracks me up:"...but I didn't inhale". :lmao:
Hey Fights, how can they have been born in the 70s when they were hippies in the 60s? :lmao:
Btw man, what time is it where you are?

I have some hipster friends. In fact my sister is a hipster in denial. I know they believe in peace, I just hate how they parade around bragging about it. (I'm not saying they all do)

Don't be a punk. You don't choose to be it and people that do make me sick, we don't need more people like you
