Heh, yeah, the Tao, I read it. One of the few things I've read that does make sense, well, most of it. Who started anarcho, well, it's like asking who started punk. It was just sorta there, in people's minds, waiting to break out. I remember when I was at school, thinking this is all just shite, there's something wrong going on. Then punk come along and it's like, yeah, that sorta makes sense, and then everyone is forming bands, like everyone you know is in a band, and they mostly crap but who cares. I remember few gigs where bands formed in the audience, just to play support slot, then split after. Like, people that never met each other before. They were really crap, but punk as fuck, really. I dunno, all this probably rooted in 60's, I guess, it just got a lot more bite. Anyway, Crass was couple years later, part of the second wave. Pete says they just hung up an anarchist banner so they didn't get label as left or right, but that wasn't really new neither. Anarchy in the UK, and all that. Don't think anyone really looked into it too deep, but they were sorta living it anyway. Some still are, did a couple squat gigs in 2005-ish that really captured that feeling.

I see well it's interesting to know Cra$$ didn't start the anarcho-punk movement but I think it's going to be hard to change people's minds about it, just today I got into a fight with someone over this because this person thinks Cra$$ "sounds awesome anyway" and I said "you mean SOUNDED awesome, now their message has no meaning" and then that person got pissed and we started fighting on that forum.

See what I mean? I tried to spread the news about Cra$$ selling out and nothing good came from it, people are just too stubborn when it comes to idolize someone, they are so fucking blind that no matter what we say they'll keep worshipping them, perhaps it's useless to try but hopefully I'm wrong.

Well in the end the person I was arguing with was more reasonable than I thought and wasn't even a fan of Cra$$ at all. Still I really would like to tell chilean anarchists about Cra$$ selling out but don't know where else can I spread the information...

    No offense...

    But fuck Crass.

I don't understand why everyone still loves them. I understand that they had "influential" music (even though their sound is not for me) and did anarchist things in their past.

I have always agreed with their message.

But i think they are sell-outs. I mean come on, they a song called Punk Is Dead. And i'm pretty sure it is still well alive.
Plus, from what i have heard from this site, they got mad because of the FREE downloads that were available on this site. In my opinion, a true punk band would not give a shit and would not force the moderators to take down the downloads.

(And i know people are going to tell me that "Punk Is Dead" is probably about posers or something. But they did not have to claim that it is entirely dead and that it is just capitalistic and worthless.)

What exactly is the point of this thread ? We have discussed crass issue on other thread, which it seems, you have read, so you can comment there.

    Cheers.

I would post there but it is quite old, and nobody seems to pay attention to older posts.

And i was still in a way asking why people still love them.

    Re: No offense...

I love Crass and always will. They had some amazing songs, full of anger and snottiness, that opened a whole new horizon not only to me but to thousands of bands around the world. They're wankers now? So what. It doesn't defile what they once stood for and I don't think it undermines their legacy. A lot of people from influential bands went on to be outright bastards or very confused individuals. The most important thing is what the songs means to you, how they make you feel and think. While I think it is relevant to mock some of their songs to laugh at what they have become, I would consider it childish to discard everything the band has ever done.

And come one, doesn't the song "Mother earth" give you goose-gump?

    Re: No offense...

I just feel that they completely turned around their beliefs, and that kind of disgusts me. And i know a lot of bands become bastards but im pretty sure none of them made an anti-punk song.

And if you asking if they give me "goose-BUMPS" (Because i don't know what goose-gump is), no, im not a fan of their sound.
One song that i know gives me goose bumps is, "You Can Kill The Protester, But You Can't Kill The Protest" - Anti-Flag
The meaning and sound of that song makes me want to go to a protest and punch the government straight in the face.
Their are a bunch of songs i like that make me feel like that, but that was the first that came to mind.

    Re: No offense...

Well, the "b" key is close to the the "g" on French keyboards and I was down the boozer last night... :ecouteurs:

"Punk is dead" is not litterally an anti-punk song, it was a song directed at the all first-wave punk bands who started signing to major labels and diluting their message in the process hence making punk just a new chapter in the rock'n'roll circus. It was meant to be provocative and the fact that you still seem all confused by it some 34 four years later shows that it is indeed a good song.

In fact, a lot of punk bands have written songs with a similar theme throughout the years. Think about "Stop thinking and pogo" by A//Political, "Rot in hell" by Earth Citizens, "They got it all wrong" by Anthrax, "Leather, bristles, studs and stupidity" by Anti-System, "Rotten to the core" by Peni and so on. Of course, none of these bands can match the incredible power of Anti-Flag (I mean, the poor fuckers didn't even make it to MTV).

    Re: No offense...

Well i still have my opinion on Crass, but you don't have to be a sarcastic dick about Anti-Flag. Just put your actual opinion out there. And you would see how they are not sell-outs in my opinion if you read my post on "anti-flag good or bad". so if you want to discuss them go to that thread. This one is about Crass.

Anti-flag not sellouts ? Are you fucking kidding me ? They sold their ass to hollywood movies and big labels, made videoclips for the TV, they're selling overpriced merch everywhere and keeping all profits for themselves, touring at vans warped tour and with shitty bands like Rise Against, etc...

I seriously don't understand how you can say that Crass are sellouts and Anti-flag are not. They're much worse than Crass.

    Re: No offense...

Your only "opinion" about Crass is that you don't understand why people still like them and that you misunderstood the song "Punk is dead" (did you even read the lyrics). And then you mention Anti-Flag and one of their supposedly great songs while taking the piss because I wrote "goose-bump".

I don't have to be a dick but I just enjoy being one sometimes. :ecouteurs:
