You have to love the confusion of skin colours (white, black), nationalities (French, Mexican) and even a whole continent (Asia). Good work Sir.

i know it's just a drop in the bucket, but ben franklin doesn't fit the bill there. not only was he actively against native killing and pro-coexistence, but he was one of the first big names to actively oppose slavery, and in fact when he recieved his inheritance, he freed his slaves and then hired them on at equal rates to what he payed white printers. not to promote capitalism, but in the late 1700's, hiring former slaves for pay, and then paying them just as much as white employees was a revolution all on its own.

well, used to be quite a racist back then. I especially hated chinese and jews.

(over here, chinese people are considered to be the "jews" here, since they do run a lot of businesses.)

it's actually due to the whole racist indoctrination they would put on me as a kid, from my parents to my peers so before long I was influenced by them.

I think it was 15-16 that I started listening to punk music and started questioning the whole racist ideas, before long I read about the history of the jews,it was only then I realized they have been through many setbacks throughout history, so I cant help but feeling sorry for them.

And the chinese, well, once you get to know them they're just as good (and even better) than my own race. I've worked with a few chinese employers, and it varies for each employer but overall it was ok.

So now I'm not racist anymore, it's just you haven't met all of them to make a stereotype out of a specific race.

no, really. I'm so happy for you that as a young, educated, white male you're allowed the privilege to sweep away such unpleasantries out of your conscience and under the rug. I bet there's a whole lot of black folk that wish they could do the same thing. But then again, we can't all be moderators of an anarchopunk forum...

so if we all refer to people using the n-word, that would be fighting 'white privilege'? Gotcha.

This looks like it'll be a good argument. To both of you, I implore you, as white males, to examine issues of race from a fundamental or external perspective. Never assume you you are able to speak for someone else's perspective, question why you would even want to, and check yourself for precepts that may otherwise go unexamined. I implore you to put as much effort possible to understand the context. Absolute statements are both absurd an detrimental, nothing is true across the board, except for the fact that the world we currently live in is grossly dependent on systems that are inherently unsustainable.

I would put myself behind this statement for the most part, just cause someone is a member of an oppressed race does not mean they are not an oppressor or, more applicable here, an ignorant motherfucker.

I would also however add that pretty much all oppressive racial slurs have been used extensively by colonialists and imperialists and industrialists and oppressors historically to dehumanize. In that context I see no real reason to "reclaim" any of these words. However I would still pretty much agree with the above definition with the addition that the words are historically used by oppressor classes to dehumanize the oppressed class, to the extent of creating mass division amongst the oppressed class.

I've got no particular interest in discussing issues of race with Cascadian, but I am somewhat perplexed about their accusations that editing racist language is a blatant display of 'white privilege'.

    Now i'm really confused.

I stand by my statement, obviously we have different perspectives on many issues, Butcher. I personally find putting more importance/time into issues of language as opposed to actual content conveyed and unique context to be kind of pointless and almost liberal leaning. One question for you though... and I mean it in no accusatory way at all. Do you or have you ever really hung out/spent time with "minorities"? I am not saying AT ALL that language does not need to be seriously examined. As I said, I am not making excuses for oppressive language or advocating for the reclamation of these words.

Once again, you use a completely polemic and irrelevant statement to argue something you haven't the slightest idea about.

When you censor that word, you are brushing it under the rug and with it, you are brushing all the baggage that goes long with it under the rug too. This is a luxury afforded to you because you are white and this word does not apply to you. Your intentions are good, but you're really just being clueless and in effect being racially insensitive. This is disgustingly bourgeois. What ethnic group is primarily propagating the use of this word? Hint: It's not white people.

How charitable and kind it is of those who abide in the ivory tower to take sympathy on the plight of the common negro...you struggle with that word as much as any n does, right? It disgusts you, eh? You need a holiday in Cambodia, m'friend.

i'll just chime in that censorship of any kind is wrong, this kind for the fact that someone using language like that is an easy indicator of someone who's not worth my time, or anyone else's.

I'm only going to say this once...the charter clearly states that this is a radically anti-fa website and under no circumstances will hate-speech be tolerated whether you agree to that or not is completely irrelevant, this isn't the place to use it and it isn't up for debate... consider this your warning Cascadian. Oh and before you two start asking or accusing anyone of 'white privilege' check your own 'privilege'. Butcher does extensive work outside of APN in support of, and with the active participation of members of South American Anarchist Federations and several Indigenous rights groups. His role here as moderator affords him nothing but the active participation of the APN collective and he was doing the right thing by deleting a mouth full of racist doublespeak.
