they promote a vegan police state which will execute all the meat eaters.
They promote vegan nationalism and vegatable fascism and to coerce people to become vegan and if they dont execute them.

But they weren't 'nationalists', they were weird new age religious nutters.

To be fair, that doesn't make them much more right winged then most primitivists (and its implied in a lot of liberal ecology bullshit too- 'we gotta stop the poor breeding to save teh planetz!)

If anything, Vegan Reich were idiots. Big, stupid idiots. Harmful idiots, of course, because they held a lot of sway over similarly stupid macho vegans. Not nazis, not nationalists and not national socialists either. Just bizarre vego-fascists. Remember, a nationalist is interested in their nation. Vegan Reich were interested in vegetables, and making people eat them. In another world, maybe they would have made violent PSAs about eating your greens.

And, Ben, I don't know where your idea that all totalitarian or state-control ideologies are necessarily Nazism comes from. Remember, any ol' ideology you can think of can be spun fascist if you try hard enough. National socialism is just one (quite specific and in practice unique) brand of fascism, but fascism comes in plenty of flavours. I'm not trying to split hairs, but please don't call people Nazis when they aren't. Fascist would have sufficed here, and even that is a little dodgy considering how poorly-laid-out and contradictory the VR belief system was.

To be fair, I don't hold primitivists in high regards. Same thing for upper-middle class ecologists. Blaming the poor for the wealthy's destructive lifestyle.

Yeah, wasn't implying you were a primmo or anything ;) , just saying VR's bullshit 'population control' views aren't isolated.

I claimed edge all through high school and learned alot of self control from it. Then later I broke and went through almost every drug phase there is, fortunately with enough will power to not go overboard. Elitist hard liner fuckers can fuck right off. Fire storming a party and beating the shit out of kids for drinking is pure fascism. Ian Mckay even drinks on occasion and never meant for straight edge to become what it is today.

Nowadays I still have respect for the idea of straight edge. I'd probably be a dope fiend by now if being edge hadn't taught me so much about self control and will power. Now all I do is drink here and there, smoke weed, and take the occasional psychedelic trip. Actually psychedelics also helped keep things in perspective, and kept me from going overboard with drugs.

I think it's partly the music, since I noticed a good number of tough guys listen to metalcore which I thought was pretty macho.

I'm more partial towards old hardcore, youth crew and thrashcore for my straight edge material anyway. the lyrics are more fun and the music is more accessible, but it's also partly dictated by the person's personality. I've always been a nice person to begin with, so I didn't turn into an ass even after I became edge :)

just another fundamentalist vanity movement. "It hates a thing it has not tried." Contempt for sensation and experience? Talk about lame. If you choose to do drugs or not do them, that's your choice. There's no need to pretend that choice, either one you make, lends you extra credibility or makes you some kind of example of anything.

but as a related point I do personally think drugs like heroin and meth, ones that really ruin people, are dumb as hell. Why would you want to do that? But I toke up, and that's a personal choice. I don't think everyone should do it. And there's nothing wrong with a beer now and again.

I just never saw the real appeal of a subculture based around what you don't do

That's not awesome at all. Many drug dealers are people caught up in the system that really have no other way of getting by. They may be a convicted felon making it hard for them to find work, they may have been born in to poverty, and grew up selling drugs to help take care of their family. Beating the shit out of the is probably the dumbest fucking thing someone can do. Rather then beat up people who are just trying to make a living any way that they know how, we should beat up the system, and all of its tools of oppression that force people in to positions such as these.

I think the only good thing militant edge does is confront Nazi's, other than that, they're fascist to the 4th degree. Tons are even anti-choice. Not something to get behind if you consider yourself an anarchist.
