What do you guys think of Rage? They've gotten bashed a lot for selling out (amongst other things), and I dont fall in line with the far left stance, but they made some really good songs back in the day, and Zack actually seems like he cares about what he sings about. Tom Morello is in a band right now (Street sweepers union?) with the vocalist of the Coupe, and they're doing funk/hip hop with an anarcho-communist spin. Zack also did some cool stuff with the DJ Roni Size.

I used to be really into this in my gothy-metalhead-phase... lol. I've gone through so many incarnations now it's unbelievable.
But if we're going to go rap-anything I'll vote for Clawfinger instead.

i'm not really big on hip hop without dj's... but meht hat's my opinion.
old rage was alright tho.. i really didn't understand why zach de la roca (sp) got all pissed off because he didn't win an mtv award tho.
i can be pretty liberal on the whole "selling out" deal these days and ya, show a video once in a while on mtv and say yah "har har har i have your money" but to be actually pissed off that you didn't win an award by the same people you were using to destroy? pussy...

Not to be Mr. Nitpicker, be careful using that word, it could be considered sexist. Referring to me as women is degrading and makes women seem to be inferior to men. just food for thought. (unless you are calling him a cat, which is then only offensive to our feline friends :) )

Whoah...Sorry...I didnt realize we were in the Maximum rock n roll forum.

Wtf d00d? Calling someone a pussy is not in any way sexist. I believe it's original etymoligy is from the idea of a "Pussycat", not the female sex organ. Now you could say that cats are considered feminine, and therefore using 'pussy' as an insult could be somehow warped into sexism.
But even if a guy calls another guy a "pussy" or a "little girl", they're obviously reffering to the idea of something being helpless or weak. This is just a part of our conditioning (and even our genetics, unless you want to deny that the vast majority of women ARE physically weaker). We grew up in a land of dolls for girls and guns for boys.

Bottom line? I think that everyone in here knows atleast 2 or 3 girls that could rough them up. I really dont think in this enviroment using the sex card is really wise. It's kind of like someone saying "Dude, you're being a douche bag" and someone trying to infer that since douches are a feminine product that what they said was sexist.

Please do remind yourself that boys and girls are very different both mentally and genetically. Where as men are usually the physically and emotionally stronger (atleast on the surface), women are usually better with reasoning and being emotionally supportive. That's why we have both. What the guy above said is about as sexist as you saying to a girl "God, you act like such a dude".
Its not an insult its an observation. Loosen up.

While hardly my favorite, Rage was a solid band, and set a good example for a modern activist alternative band.

Just for friendly debates sake: from dictionary.com

    puss·y 1 (pŏŏs'ē)
    n. pl. puss·ies
    1. Informal A cat.
    2. Botany A fuzzy catkin, especially of the pussy willow.
    3. Vulgar Slang
    A. The vulva.
    B.Sexual intercourse with a woman.
    4. Offensive Slang Used as a disparaging term for a woman.
    5. Slang A man regarded as weak, timid, or unmanly.

Gives me the impression that calling a man a "pussy" is most likely a sexist term.

You can justify it however you want, but it could still be considered sexist.

And yes I do consider calling a man a "little girl" to be demeaning to women. Do think it's ok to say something is "gay?"

    See:

That's more something akin to middle school students when they're unconvinced by unimpressed with a certain something. But even if someone did, would it really offend you all that much? I can see "faggot" as sounding offensive as it's the gay equivalent of the word "nigger". But gay just means two of the same, and in most cases is used pretty subtly to describe something disliked, i.e. "That movie Transformers 2 was fucking gay". I get why it's wrong, I just don't think it's as big a deal as people might make it out to be. Please don't go Rosie O'Donnel on us.

On a side note, is it offensive to call someone a "tit" since the English use that regularly and it means "idiot"? Cause it might infer that tits are stupid or lack intelligence ipso facto women are dumb (if you apply your same logic).

going in the same direction but not on the same path, we will meet but i don't agree with majors generally, no matter how rose tinted its painted, 'most' of their fans seem to be mincers too, so did the message really get through to the not already converted specially when we've seen it all before and when theres a machine that they take part in wholly that spreads/indentures information faster than they can play a lick, they are good artists and am sympathetic to their beliefs, if push came to shove would i support their decision, probabaly not but in a world of six billion people i think i would have to mediate, compromise and find solution while solidifying the basic tenet of survival that anybody has, or would be happy to be the individualist outside of the society they wished to create but would be pretty sure to not let it instill so far to fuck over others as not an individualist through and through or why do i care as others mite say; but i defend the rights of the individual, bob dyaln kicks their arse most days *cough but it ain't no competition, it's intelligent.

Who cares where the fuck "pussy" came from?
    Irrelevant bullshit.

    Rage Against the Machine.
Their first album, pretty damn good in my opinion.
    Know Your Enemy, rad song.

I think the idea that anarchists must be aligned with the political left is stupid. It seems like anarchists just want a society somewhere between early Marxism and Maximum rock n roll magazine. Do I think its okay to call someone gay? I dont know how to answer that. I'll tell my gay friend Bill "Dude youre such a pansy" Because he is! He says it himself. He calls me a fag, and I'll call him the N word (hes white), and he'll call me James Brown, because my friends are less worried about what the PC police want, and more interested in the issues at hand. "Fag", "Beaner", "Pussy" etc. Theyre just words. The only reason they still have power is because the politically correct patrol keeps making the words seem worse than they are. Hip hop artists learned this and adopted the N word as their own. The same can be said for one of the other many names people call eachother. If you're calling a gay person a fag, of course thats wrong. But if you're calling someone a pussy because theyre being a pussy, its totally warranted. So stop being a pussy! :)

And as far as the word goes, "pussy" (the insult) comes from Pussycat, as does the word meant for female genitilia. I'm pretty sure we've been calling people pussies since before the vulgar term came to be. Hence why on television you can often say "Youre being a pussy" without a bleep, but if you say "My pussy is wet" theyll censor it. But as guy above me said, Who fucking cares?

Yeah, Inside Out was great! As far as Rage goes I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with listening to them if your a punk/metalhead ( I own their first two). I think they get a really bad reputation amongst true metal and punk circles and are unfairly lumped into the catagory of crappy rap metal/nu-metal with bands such as korn or limp bizkit, much like system of a down but thats a different story. Plus Zach was/is a really good rapper and thats something that always bugged me about ratm, I think he should have rapped more or had longer verses or something and thus I always like songs such as Guerrilla Radio or Bullet in The Head, those with extended rap sections... but there's no way you can say they were musicall uninteresting though.

And Yeah both Street Sweeper Social Club and One Day as a Lion are quite good as well, also i'm pretty sure Tom Morello as The Nightwatchman has played shows with members of riot folk and thats pretty cool.

Which riot folk people did he play with?

And yeah, youre dead on about them being unfairly lumped into the "rap rock" category. Its not like theyre Papa roach or Kid rock haha.

the favorite memory i have of RATM is a picture of them from before some concert, that I believe was a festival thing, and they stood naked in front of the stage with PMRC (one letter omn each of their chests) bound and gagged for like 20 minutes before playing. Seeing a mainstream act do something like that is incredible.

That was at Lollapalooza. And they didn't actually play. A week or two after they played a free show in Grant Park to make up for it.

Great both in terms of message and venue. Fuck Lolla.
