I used to be RASH. Not part of any subculture anymore, but it's always nice to meet anarchist skinheads.

Isn't being a skinhead completly against anarcho beliefs? You're basically saying you're better than someone else which is what governments do to us...

It's an easy concept if you know your history. Something that goes without question. Much love to all the true skinheads out there. Spirit of 69.

While it might be frustrating explaining skinheads to lamens, it only takes a second so:

In the 60s out of the teddy boys came the mods. Mods then split into two groups hard mods and soft mods. Hard mods listened to primarily ska, rocksteady, reggae etc. and were working class. This is what became known as the skinhead. In the late 70s bands like skrewdriver started pushing racial ideas under the skinhead montra. So bottom line? The majority of true skinheads arent racist or fascist (i.e. their love of jamaican roots music). Just check out the song "Skinhead" by Laurel Aitken, or "Skinhead girl"/"Skinhead moonstomp" by Symarip.

:beers: Well your english is ok - as you can make yourself understood with it. I still used to cut my hair short and tidy - close shave - couple of years ago... But maybe it's the ageing or something, but I 've let my hair to grow. (no I 'm not lookin g like a hippy either). My over all favourit bands are Last Resort, Sham 69, The Business, some Two Tone-bands like Specils and ska-reggea - trad. skinpartys are marvelous... I've allways considered skinhead-style to be smart and stylish - although I've always seen myself merely as a punk - not as skinhead. Or lets say that first I 'm human being - secondly an anarchist - thirdly a punk and jeah mybe a skinhead too ... Skinhead-culture is more like a working-class kids own youth-counter-culture. It should be left alone with politics. It is about friends, clothing and music - not plitics. So fuck rascism - fascism and keep the red politics also out of the culture! You can be red and a skinhead - but there should not be any "redskinhead" thing messing with the cult.

Sorry a bit confused and .... well I havent sleep in couple of nights ... Horke :S

WHY do you buy Ben Sherman and Fred Perry? I dont care if its a "skinhead" brand or whatever, their t-shirts and shit are just as expenisve if not more than Abercrombie and Fitch and GUCCI.

PLEASE try to justify spending outrageous amount of money on clothes and braces, please

    What does SHARPS/RASH stand for?
Skinheads against racism or something like that i'm guessing...

Anyway skinheads are supposed to be into that whole oldschool ska/reggae type thing aren't they ... or at least that's what I learned from This Is England (which is pretty much the extent of my knowledge of skinhead culture)
Never really listened to too much old school reggae myself aside from Bob Marley and the Wailers, Desmond Dekker, and Steel Pulse, but today I somehow found myself (off of a tangent from checking out the Swingin' Utters who I had also never listened to, in preparation for seeing them with Classics of Love, Jesse Michaels' new band who I have had the opportunity to see about four times so far but circumstance has dictated my displeasure each time... verdict on the Swingin' Utters... meh...)watching that dumb 7 minute short film "Larry is Dead" directed by Tim Armstrong and starring Lars what's his name on youtube ... and that inspired me to check out some Linton Kwesi Johnson and let me tell ya, that is some surpremely quality stuff, might even get me to check out some more old school shit!

On a side note, watching the Blues Brothers (shaddup) it's easy to see in retrospect how that kind of big band RnB so greatly influenced Jamaican Ska and Reggae...

p.s. I love the Specials, does that make me a skinhead? (just kidding)

Also, do racist skins listen to NS black metal?
