I do have super awesome punk sewing skills but my jacket studding skills have much to
answer for. I purchased a scalpel today and had been cutting hole's in my jacket which
has been going average. I need to come up with a more efficient way of setting the studs.

mallet and nail ! simple as that use your judgment on how far each hole should be or just get a stud and press it against the letter to kinda mark where theyll be. then bend them inwards. unless you bought the heavy duty black studs from studs and spikes it shouldnt be too hard to bend the prongs with your fingers

    Re: studs for "charged" jackets

Sorry for the late reply, and thanx:)

We don't have have a webside so far, but I guess we're planning to. Right now the distro is more of a sideproject, since we're all buisy booking shows, playing in bands and so on.

i use a jewelers screwdriver since in my opinon that makes holes very close to the size of a studs teeth

i use a 10 gauge piercing needle to make the holes. a horse syringe (available at farm stores for about .25-.50) will work great as well, and jewelry pliers to bend them.

A friend of mine bought himself a bunch of golf shoe spikes and put them in his jacket. Not sure how exactly, but I think you'd need to use nuts to secure them.

Nah, forget it, just searched for golf shoe spikes & 1) They don't make those spikes anymore (I was talking about in the 80s), just some weird plastic crap. 2) They're so expensive that there's nothing "punk" about it anyway.

I use a glovermakers needle, its for puncturing leather, and its triangular shaped so the hole is a bit bigger. I studded 2 jackets with it and never had an issue

If its leather i use a small exact-o knife for making the holes then i use my multi-tool's pliers to bend the studs.
If its denim i just use the stud to poke the holes and i bend them with my fingers until they start to hurt and i use the pliers instead.

It would be less painful to wedge the round shaft of a screwdriver between the prongs of the stud & tap it with a hammer to widen them and then squeeze them open with pliers, but what's a little bit of pain anyway. Shit I might even be thinking of different studs.
