Now, let me start off, i liked batman, thought the movie was good and all. But i am so sick and tired of running into these little kids who are obsessed with the character. Buying all this merchandise, being the joker for halloween (its one of those costumes now that theres at least 5 people in a group of 6 that are the joker). I just got into this huge debate last night with this kid (who loves the joker obviously so he was never going to change his mind about the character) about whether the Joker was an "anarchist" or not and, after pretty much shutting that case down pretty quickly "the idea behind the joker, messing up the system and all". I hate the joker character now because of all this bullshit after the movie came out. Not even the character himself. Its another one of those products or ideas that are bought by big business, and turned into a profit and sold, easily, to wannabe rebellious teenagers and shit like that. I dont know if this makes sense at all, but what are your feelings on the Joker character? Im just fed up with everyone around me being obsessed with this damn comic book character.
Stop looking to deep into things, leave the merchandise issue to kids and collecting geeks and enjoy the film for what it is mindless entertaining fun.
I dont know how anyone could see him as a true anarchist. no regard for human life, nihilistic in a sense. oh well, now this "anarchist" is on every t-shirt and baseball cap i see
I like the character, but I don't put too much thought into it. In a sense that enforces him as being an 'anarchist'. The more time I spend on it, the more I effort and attention I put into this problem, the more complex it seems to become anyway. And in a sense he IS an anarchist, if we think of anarchy as synonymous to anomony (or however you spell that), as most people do. *shrugs* couldn't care less to be honest, there's always going to be mindless, pubescent pricks who think they know everything, hell I think most of us have been one of those at one point or another.
Yea, i dont REALLY think about it, but this guy was being annoying about him, like he was turning this joker into a huge deal because i just made a slight remark about hating the merch of the character and that i dont think he was anarchist. But cheers!
I liked the scene where the Joker burnt a pile of money! Fucking brilliant!!! That's a highlight for me.
he's pycshotic, like dexter or american pyscho, he is as american as apple pie and minnie mee and marketing is H-movies. if they have twisted everything then tiwist it back, learn from the beast and don't bee seen, be innocuos, they call it propaghanda, ala bill bored, if u feel strongly, wear fucked up t-shirt's, put up posters, hand out a short ofish excerpt enclyo flyer explanation what @ actually is.
Heath Ledger was a shitty actor, and 9/10ths of the time he played the same fucking role in a different setting (compare A Knights Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You, it's eiree). That's all I have to contribute.
brokeback mountain is one of the saddest movies i've seen, the bastards, i am a fan of mr lee though as it were, once you've seen it do you need ta see it again yea jack the motorcycle diaries made me feel the same way but lets not talk about crapwood, you'll just get crap seating
I know exactly what you're talking about Veg., at the place I used to live this guy was obsessed with the joker. at first it was like yea he is a cool character, but he just took it way too far to the point of making his myspace at the time a tribute to the joker. pathetic.
The Joker had some pretty cool points about him, but the way he went about it was a little off. And he was an "anarchy & chaos" guy. I liked the idea of his social experiments, but it's a shame people had to die for them. In all reality, I don't really give a shit because it's a movie, but I also like the part where he burns money. "Let's cut you up into little pieces and feed you to your pooches than we'll see how loyal a hungry dog really is. It's not about the money, It's about sending a message. Everything Burns"
I liked the Dark Knight movie a lot, Christopher Nolan makes some damn fine movies, but when pretty much anything starts showing up allover it will get annoying.
yeah the joker had some interesting things to say about individualism and nihilism....i suppose the character would be something of an anarchist on some level, but he cared too much about having power, even if he claimed otherwise. twas entertaining nonetheless, but those little hot topic pricks need to fuck off.
Well, I don't know about the movies, over there he is just a sick basterd who tries to show how evil all humans are, but in his methods, he is a sadistic asshole himself as well. If you study his history in the comics however, you could see him as an anarchist. He was betrayed by a huge corporation, and his wife and children were murdered, and he fell into an acid pool, causing his hair to turn green, his skin chalk white, and his lips red. Because of that, he seeks revenge. In the different years, he has been different, in the 60s and 70s he was just a joker, playing tricks and creating chaos to mock people taking life too seriously. In the 80s he was a very dark character, mostly because of the cold war, fear speaked a lot to people, and he wanted complete chaos and pain inflicted on people around him, this was also when government officals started to help him, which was done by the author to symbolize coruption in the western world, batman too, became an outlaw. And now, with the new movies, because of 9/11 you see that dark side coming up again, with batman again being mistunderstood.
Had to chime in because I'm a huge Batman nerd. The Joker is quite far from an anarchist. He doesn't just want no government, he wants the world to be in a state of constant chaos. He desires a chaos that lacks logic to even itself. A world where the same person, on any give day, may help you, fool you, or kill you. Grant Morrison has done great character dissections of the Joker in Arkham Asylum (which was one of the two comics the movie used as the basis of the Joker character) and in his current run on Batman. A really cool Batman villain that I wished caught on was Anarky. He actually was an anarchist and targeted big corporations and big banks. The writers portrayed the businesses as being immoral but following the law, so it forced Batman (since he always upholds law) to defend "bad guys."
