    Hello,
I recently started to listen to punk. I grew up listening to classical (looking back, I don't know how I survived it, but I did) then metal for a while, and now to punk.
I have already listen to The Exploited and a bit of Conflict and Crass and heard a song from Sex Pistols. I like Conflict the most.
Since I'm new to punk, what bands would you recommend I listen to (I would prefer that the lead singer has at least a bit deeper voice than the lead singer of Crass and Sex Pistols).

Also I was wondering about part of the lyrics of Never Sellout by The Exploited:
"All those cunts that slagged us off
Are just a bunch of fucking twats
    - From Big John to Conflict too
    Disappeared up their own arse"
I know that "Big John" refers to Big John Duncan who left the band, but to whom is "Conflict" referring to? If it is the band, then how did Conflict "slagged off" The Exploited?

    Napoleon

Welcome to APN Napoleon. I wouldn't put any faith or attribute wisdom to any single thing that comes out of Wattie's mouth...the man is a complete idiot in my opinion. For something completely different from what you listed I would recommend listening to some Poison Idea, Contravene, Adelit@s, Ekkaia, A//Political, Avskum, Rudimentari Peni, Million of Dead Cops, Capitalist Casualties, and Crucifix.

Hey there. If there's still any part of you that likes classical music, can I suggest you check out the band Blackbird Raum? They use a lot of somewhat complex folk music structures and instruments that might appeal to you. Also, they're fun!

Lot of anarcho bands slag off Exploited, and rightly so, I think. Here, me too - Exploited are a pile of donky poo. I remember Crass single that had on it joke competition (Merry Crassmas, probably). It said 'first prize, an Exploited single, second prize TWO Exploited singles'. Hee-Ho-Hah. I saw them play once, long time ago, Big John on guitar. I'd just like to say that he is, or at least was, really fat. I never before or since seen anyone that fat play guitar. I thought he was gonna break it. Well, nice list, punkmar which means I only heard about half that stuff, what an uncultured bastard I am. Couple of my own 'faves' is Zounds, Astronauts, Oi Polloi, Eastfield, Inner Terrestrials, Active Slaughter, Riot/Clone.

Oh, and if The Exploited's brand of Street Punk tickles your fancy, maybe check out a band like The Pist or Naked Aggression? Two bands that aren't hard listening but still give a shit about the world.

And I agree with Punkmar [for a change], The Exploited are toolbags of the first water.

    Thanks,
I think that I'll take punkmar77's advice. Only reason I listened to The Exploited was that I stumbled upon them by coincidence, and then later start to search for other punk bands. Yeah I agree that The Exploited isn't that good, but it is still far beter than the music I used to listen to before punk. I'll give the other bands suggested by punkmar77 a try.
