There's some great folk punk in the Uk.

    Check out

Drunken Balordi - Pogues meets gogol bordello meets the clash.

Mama matrix - punks doing high speed balkan punk folk.

If Punks playing "other" kinds of music is what this is about then it doesn't come much more diverse than Molly Bloom. A combination of Folk, Metal, Punk, Ska, Baroque and plain insanity. New album due out imminently.

If any of you are in the Manchester/Lancashire area of the UK then you could do worse than check them out for free on the 29th December at the Two Tubs Inn, 19 The Wylde, Bury, BL9 0LA with support from Potential Victims.

Well Mischief Brew's one of my favorite's. A band similar to Johnny Hobo is "The Anorexic Olson Twin" (I know, weird name, but fucking great)

In my opinion (since I've been listening to Chris's bands for a ridiculous chunk of time now), Chris Burrow's first band, "Asking For It" are a lot like Johnny Hobo (although in my opinion distinct, and lyrically superior).

The Anorexic Olsen Twin (his most recent project) has the familiar whiney vocals, but the musicianship improves a hundred-fold and the inclusion of string sections and piano makes the sound transcend anything The Freight Trains ever put out. Also, the lyrics are more poetic than anything either of the abovementioned ever put out, and the vocals (while similarly whiney) evoke a much more powerful sense of dread and alienation. Sorta like comparing Tom Waits' vocals on Heartattack and Vine with his vocals on Rain Dogs.

Also, Danbert Nobacon's album "Library Book of The World". Kind of twangy, country-tinged political record that's quite a solid listen.

Folk Punk, I would consider folk punk bands like the voilent femmes, nick cave and the bad seeds, ect. pretty much an agressive version of acoustic indie. i have alwais been a fan of dark 90's indie rock and its easy to get obsessed with.

I always felt that the bad seeds were far too complex to call them "folk punk", and I've never heard them called as such. I figured everybody already did consider them an acoustic indie rock band.

http://www.whenthereisnoroominhellthede ... yougo.html this is Chris Burrows' new band, called 'This Is A Robbery!', only three tracks out so far and I can't wait for more! I emailed him a while back and still am intending to trade a bunch of CDs with him and write with a letter when I get some money together... He said he's intending to do a US tour in the summer!
