I saw that on Future Weapons.
Though it's a good quote, at least it doesn't actually kill people, so much as hamper their ability to function normally.

 

this 'sonic cannon' is LRAD...Long Range Acoustic Device. i guess earplugs/headsets will now have to be the norm at protests! seriously though, has anyone have any info on how to circumvent the LRAD? i have heard mention that in some cases, the volume can cause permanent deafness (the equivalent of firing a gun next to your head) and/or even 'disrupt' your internals!

i have a feeling that a few well aimed bricks might be the only way to 'turn it off', but i would never do that nor encourage anyone else to try it.

 

Supposedly the sound travels in a straight line from the dish-like thingy on the device (forgive my lack of use of technical terms), therefore it's kind of like a watercannon, don't get caught in the blast radius. I can't quite remember if there was a setting for a cone-shaped dispersion of the sound though.
And sound can damage internal organs and eardrums, yes.

 

The device in discussion was used in Pittsburgh. Its a loud pitch shrill but honestly it hurts more than you would think. So JUST WEAR EARPLUGS NEXTTIME! haha, really thats all it would take to dampen the sound.

 

Or maybe just take your mp3-player and set it to loud

No its much more serious than that, they can actually set the sound waves so high that it can kill you, and damage physical matter. I guess it depends on the operator. They were showing it on Nat Geo.

 

So basically we now have a sonic taser, if you will?

 

Yeah this thing was primarily designed for combat , then they figured out that if they used it on lower settings they could apply it to crowd control situations. Whats scary is that if the operator were to make an error in judgement it would be a massacre.
