Best band I ever saw live were the Pogues, but, if we're talking anarcho/crust, then it would have to be Radical Dance Faction.

Well my first ever show was Mischief Brew, my never to change all time favorite band, at Gilman in Berkeley. They played as an electric three piece and it was fucking incredible beyond all reason ... chipped my tooth in my first pit... (some old school hc band whose name I can't remember now) they also played with this awesome all girl pop punk group called Tinkture who ended up playing last because they arrived late to about the twelve remaining people in the room (yeah, four person circle pit!), but they were great.

Let's see, other than that few other bands have matched up with Mischief Brew's caliber, but I definitely have the pleasure of saying I have never been to a disapointing show (not counting marilyn manson and numerous other shitty -core bands at the fucking Rockstar Energy Shitfest, but hey I didn't pay for that and at least Slayer was pretty good and cannibal corpse was passable I guess).

World/Inferno was great on the same leval as Mischief Brew, amazinig set as well when i saw 'em at the great american music hall in sf.

Nux Vomica was other worldly when I saw them play with Embers (doomy black metal/crust similar to gallhammer from the bay area) and The Makai (pretty good legit melodeth/metalcore with a bit of a crust influence) it was right after their new one had just came out and I was right up front (I always saw the best way to experiance a show is smashed up against as many other sweaty bodies as possible) my ears were ringing for two days after that.

hmm, Suffocation, Necrophagist, Ensiferum, Dying Fetus at summer slaughter, I got there late after Origin played but it was still a great show.

Lots of great shows I've missed also, Amebix, leftover Crack, Toxic Narcotic, Intro5pect, subhumans, mdc, star fucking hipsters, mouth sewn shut, citizen fish, gogol bordello, ghost mice, evan greer, primordial, mayhem, marduk, cattle decapitation and probably a bunch of others... However this weekend I went to two shows and I finally got to see Citizen Fish (another one of my favorite bands!), they played with star fucking hipsters who was also awesome, and this crazy mexican punk band from San Francisco called La Plebe, who I will definitly post some of later, loads of energy, crazy horns, english and spanish. Then on saturday a friend of mine told me about a show in santa rosa (I live in sebastopol about 10 min. away) at which this band whose drummer he knew would be playing, so I thought "that's cool"
and looked it up and saw that Gruk this awesome punky crust band from Chico fronted by this insane 5 foot tall she-beast , who I had previously seen with Defiance,Ohio (who i didn't mention earlier only because when i saw them they played a really short set and they were missing their cello player) so I resolved that we would be going. So we get there a la a ride from my mom (17, sorry) after a couple shots of whiskey and slightly stoned, $5, really small venue, and the first band is on, the one who my two buddies were there for... and they play deathcore... Deathcore!? Albeit very good deathcore with very decent instrumentation and songwriting, I think they were called Nuclear Tempest, not your average mainstream crap. But Deathcore, at what had become very obviously a crust show (set up by the north bay Pyrate Punx), well how do you think that went over? Well there were like 12 or 13 people actually listening, my dumb freind Cameron (mainstream metalhead) who i've known for years was all bummed out 'cause there was no pit, I even heard that Tim, their 17 year old drummer who was very musically talented by the way like the rest of the band, was hella pissed after their set at all the "drunk pirate punks", but hey like I said they definitely weren't bad and I enjoyed it for what it was plus we got into talking with I think it as their bass player and he was a really nice dude. Anyway, next was this pretty tight hardcore band from seattle, Cyanide Destruct i think, they were pretty good, and yes there was a pit. Gruk came on next and they threwdown as expected. The final band Blod Rott took a bit longer to set up but was well worth the wait. They were alot more metallic then any of the previous bands, even Nuclear Tempest I would say, playing some very heavy epic crust with dualing male and female vocals, long songs and incredible distorted bass sound included that came together to lead to a massive punk-as-fuck-push-pit, so massive indeed that is scared my little metal friend Cameron away... hmm, maybe too many girls in the pit? I think that was probably it. Anyway it was an awesome weekend, discovered a cool new venue, made a new friend (Shane the other dude who I didn't mention, slept in his shed on saturday and got a bunch of nasty spider bites) , got some more cool shows lined up for the near future... the only slightly dissapointing thing was the fact that Citizen Fish didn't play anything off of "Free Souls..." but it was still a good set (they didn't play b.o.b. either, or t.v dinner, or over the fence, but I guess with such an extensive discog as Citizen fish has they gotta pick and choose, they did play a new song however which gives me hope for a new album sometime soon maybe!) anyway, loads of fun,

    -peace,
    Josh

while they aren't an anarcho band per se (thought they do have great messages that lean that way) the best band I saw play live was easily DRI (dirty rotten imbeciles) Holy shit they were good, they played mostly songs off their first two albums (the non metal ones!) but they played them faster and more aggressive then they recorded 15 or so years after recording them! (i saw them back in 1996) The opening bands were all horrible, bad neo metal crap, but it was well worth it.

man I have seen hundreds of bands play over the years... the best would be (in no particular order) The Damned, Subhumans, UK Subs, The Groovie Ghoulies Toxic Narcotic, Tsunami Bomb (the first time I saw them on 01), Flogging Molly, World Inferno s Society, Rocksteady Breakfast, A Paper Cup Band, Thanks, Daycare Swindlers, 2 Man Advantage, Shonen Knife, The Dollyrots, Brian Whitson and the Nightwolves, The Mountain Goats, Violent Femmes, Very Metal, Ass, Baby Guts, Big Fuckin Skull, M.D.C., Eddie and the Hotrods, The Secretions, The Helper Monkeys, Keven Seconds, Shannon Murray, Dave Cuomo, The Billy Mack Collector, The Emotron and there are a lot of other great shows that I've seen..

The Worst band that I have EVER seen live was the Casualties, followed closely by Agnostic Front... both shows I wished I could have gotten my money back, and the Agnostic Front show I got in for free and still wanted my money back they were so horrible.

MONONTONIX. Although they've been associated with a lot of pretention and douchebaggery as of late I don't think I've ever seen or will see a live show like there's again. Their music is not that great. But jesus was the show a blast.
Here's an image from the show I was at:

Enery: Converge - Absolutely unreal show, pure adrenaline rush.
Musicianship: The Killing Spree - Sort of noise rock band from Belfast now defunct. Caught them at their only reunion show a couple of years ago, excellent musicians.
Intensity: Fake Empire - They had me in a state of hynpotic awe throughout their set. Quite a weird experience made all the better by the fact that it was in a small dark basement and that there were literally 10 people in the room, 4 of them being the band itself.
