Blocking of fascist march in Warsaw 11 November 2010.

As every year on November 11, nationalists and neo-fascists from various organizations are planning a march through the streets of Warsaw. We do not want the supporters of xenophobic and racist ideology, who proudly refer to the pre-war organizations of openly fascist sympathies, to again pass through the capital. Remembering the past, we believe that the growing national movement must be opposed. For two years now, we have been trying to block this march. We will stop it only if there will be many of us.

We are a group of different people and organizations. We share an idea of resistance against fascism. We are planning a demonstration on the route of the fascist march. We want to physically block it. We will use our civil rights. We invite all residents of Warsaw and all who want to come to Warsaw, to take part in active opposition to the fascists. We look forward to your participation in the preparations, to your arrival to Warsaw on time and at the place proposed by us. We hope you to prepare banners and inform friends about our activities. We count on your presence.

For more information about the preparations check out our website 11listopada.org

    FASCISM SHALL NOT PASS!

It is important, that this antifascist demo gathers as many people as possible. Fascists are making the biggest mobilisation for this very day, as traditionally it is the most important annual march- so we have to make sure it will be ruined. Fascists must realise clearly, there is no place for them. Apart form the demo, Antifa will hold various direct actions. Antifascist concert at night. There is a map with our meeting point marked on www.wawa11listopada.blogspot.com blog. In number of polish cities antifascists mobilise themselves to come on this day to Warsaw, we can't fail it! You can also support polish antifascists showing up this day in Warsaw. Let's be there together!
    NO PASARAN

Far-right protesters march in Warsaw on holiday 11/11/2010
Hundreds of far-right demonstrators rallied Thursday on Poland’s Independence Day, sparking a much larger counter-protest by people shouting anti-fascist slogans — some dressed in the striped uniforms of concentration camp inmates. There was a heavy presence of anti-riot police in the capital as Poles marked the anniversary of the end of World War I, when the country regained its independence after being off the map for more than a century. Several clashes broke out between the two groups of demonstrators. Police said 29 people were arrested and one policeman was hurt.
A broad left alliance of 40 organizations and trade unions in Poland on Thursday thwarted a gathering of right wing extremists by the Warsaw city center. The alliance claimed the Polish anti-fascists had advice from the germun group"nazi free Dresden".. Several hundred mostly young people blocked on Thursday 11, the day of independence, the streets of the old town to the center of the Polish capital. "Fascism will not pass" standing there on the banners. The neo-Nazi march was attended by members of the National-Radical Camp (ONR) and the All-Polish Youth. Both organizations rely on the tradition from before the Second World War and are considered anti-Semitic and nationalistic. The participants of the march planned to lay down a wreath at the monument of their chief ideologue, Roman Dmowski resign (1864-1939),
Six detained at ultra-nationalist demonstration in Poland
Six people were detained during a march by hundreds of ultra-nationalists in the Polish capital Warsaw amid a heavy police presence on Thursday. A counter-demonstration, with participants attempting to block the march to mark Independence Day. Counter-demonstrators blew whistles and carried signs saying, "Fascism is a crime, not an opinion", and "You won't pass.' Dozens were dressed as prisoners of concentration camps in black-and-white stripped garments.
The march by members of of nationalist and extreme right-wing groups was re-routed to avoid confrontations between the counter- demonstrators and the crowd.
Three members of the National Radical Camp (ONR), one of the groups taking part in the march, were hospitalized earlier Thursday after they were attacked on a train while en route to the gathering, broadcaster TVN 24 reported. \m/

It's only the little I could scrape together from some short news - so it would be nice if one of the polish comrades from the site could give a bit more information by translating a polish report or two?
I had a talk with our bonehead "neighbors" today, they weren't that happy with the outcome of the march, blaming the left for cooperating with the cops in warzaw :'( , so I guess there is more information somewhere, but we are already IP-blocked on their sites, so I can't do the recon-thingie... :anti-nazi:

and they really have reason to be pissed... :D

the thread of an "invasion" of german militants ran in the public media for over a week before the event, especially the influential newspaper"rzeczoszpolita" stoked the fear of "militant anarchists and communists from germany" and a state of emergency in warzaw.
for the polish ultra-nationalists the rush in the media became very handy, some comrades think the fascists even inspired it after their own mobilisation failed widely and they had to engage all kind of football hools and non-polish fascist groups/blood and honour squads from tschechoslowakia, ex-yugoslavia and hungarian jobbik to make up numbers.
the polish ultras tried to copy a recent strategy of the german neo-nazis: to sell the gathering of anti-semites and racists as "innocent" patriotism - unlike 2010 there weren't that many fascist statements reaching the public, on posters and placads they called upon "national honour" and tried to connect their march with the resistance against nazi-germany during WWII.
organisator of the fascist march was the polish ONR, their pre-war ancestry stood close to the italian fascists between 1920 and 1930 - their right-extremism is even confirmed by a public court after they lost a action for slander/defamation recently. they allied with the polish parts of the blood&honour network and some rightwing hooligan groups - too bad for them that this weird mix of thugs and braindead idiots backfired at them when they threw all caution to the winds and attacked the cops without need or provocation...
around 150 people were arrested, we heard most of them during the fascist vs. cops phase, by now it seems that only some germans were detained while still on the way to the meeting points.

    German newspaper (http://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/poln ... -1.1187471)
says 210 people were detained overall, amongst them 92 (!) germans, 14 cops cars were set aflame, one van of the polish television network too. they give the number of people wounded with 29 treated in hospitals, 40 cops suffered damage, three went to hospital.
robert winnicki, speaker of the march-organising "all-polish youth" condemned the "violence" yesterdays: "we condem banditry (!), hooliganism and extremism" - the "all polish youth" is a right-national and EU-hostile group. The participation of german rioters on the counter demonstration is "scandalous", aliens should stay away from events on polish holydays...

Quite nice to see the fuck using nazi-speech again - "banditry" was the expression of the gestapo for every kind of resistance during the time of the german occupation...
dunno, how far are the tunnels?

And in case some of the polish comrades read this:
Be my guests for dresden in february next year - you are more than welcomed! :ecouteurs:

hahaha, there' nothing too hard or impossible to do for the invisible committee... :o [IMG]
oh yesss, like the weekly lottery draw, too bad that "99" is already in use.
actual polish reports and comments switch between "german invasion" :o and prime ministers tusks announcement to think about tightening the right to demonstrate according to the german examples...
quite an innovative idea? not to mention that the brave conservatives of course don't think about a banning of fascist marches. o_O

as a bit of an aftermath we now have an article on libcom, i'm not really happy with the quite a bit frustrated position the writer takes with blaming almost everyone for "doing nothing" and giving credits to the cops for saving "the liberals life" - but it gives a rough report about the events and critisizes the lack of coordination of the groups involved on our side - well, there is always a need for improvement, after all, it wasn't t h a t bad...
    http://libcom.org/news/independence-day-warsaw-14112011

some polish comrades wrote their own statement, which is again not really the position i would take, but again it's from people involved giving their point of view.
