The future of file sharing on internet is in a bad situation.... More and more governements from all over the world are passing laws and starting new initiatives against files sharers and file sharing....

France governement just passed a new anti-piracy law (HADOPI 2)
read this if you don't know what is HADOPI:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadopi

Swedish government also radicalised their laws after international pressure (due to The Pirate Bay issue which have been mediatized a lot) and a few other countries have taken position against file sharing.

On top of all, United Nations have recently made pressure on the US government to de-centralize internet. Internet is a US invention so it is controlled by the USA... But UN want to change that. Basically it would be a good thing if internet was auto-managed, but NOT when the country where the most peoples are using internet is China.... And we all know that China is strongly censoring internet and free speech. So if the 10 biggest countries auto-manage internet and take decisions collectively, then the others countrys will need to adapt to china's policy and accept to censor internet.... At least, that's what might (and will probably) happen.

How is it in your country? What's the current situation?

Additionnally, how do you think internet and file sharing will be like, in 10 years? Will it look like internet in China?

In Switzerland it is legal to download but illegal to upload files for mass sharing and in ten years the Internet will be the cyberworld equivalent of Oceania. 1984. It's probably a good thing though, the more the internet sucks (television's already out, right?), the easier it will be to convert the dissatisfied masses and build farms.

I pitied The Pirate Bay's owners until I found out about their intent to sell The Pirate Bay. Let them burn. I was disgusted, they act like they're champions of freedom on the internet, at least to pirates, and then they try to drop responsibility for what they have done in the name of freedom, and make money for abandoning what they started.

business finance politicians, so, politicians make law in harmony with interests of business.
hope one day there will be direct action against them.

The Us Government has proposed an Email Stamp Tax a few times over the years... I fear something silly like this will eventually become reality.

    E-mail stamps? 0.o
Anyway, we have a government controlled anti-file-sharing group called Big (which translates to piglet, go figure), but haven't heard of anyone actually being harassed by them, except by the lame commercials they put in front of the film.

There are copyright laws because the corporations rule the earth and they don't want people getting their products for free, so they if people try to get the products free they sue them. They are all greedy bastards. This greed can also be applied to musicans.

I could honestly give a damn about the future of technology. The internet has always been controlled and limited of free speech. Shit it's fucking private.

I could definetly live without the internet, it's a total pain in the ass sometimes.

... and on the other hand links people from all over the world....

of couse, if you're the who lives via facebook and similar shit, it may suck that all you offer is taken and sold, but there are many positivez, too...

same problem as with the system, it's on the netz too and must be avoided or fought against \m/

(look into the "Hello Everyone"-Thread for a most colorful example for it's usefulness... )

consider that I hold a good bunch of primitivist attitudes AND are simultaneously defending the internetz :o

I haven't seen much about regulation in canada, except for the malarky about changing how we're charged for bandwidth.

I've heard alot in recent years about privatization of the internet and shit like how sites who are on the good list will load faster and on the shit list will load slower or won't at all depending on isp...But as much as i love the internet and think it is an amazing tool for information, all good things come to an end in the name of profit, so when that time comes im going to build a bunker in the forest and prepare for the nuclear winter cause that'll probably be around the corner.

anybody here who can go on demonoid.com?

seems like IP's from the eu and canada get blocked by the site to evade getting in trouble with da law for filesharing, i would like to know which national IP's are still tolerated?
