Here are some questions that came to my mind, and they were easy to answer. Straight people kiss on every corner, and have sex on every beach, so why shouldn't gays have the right to put their flags which represent them ? Every time some president or any 'important' person visits a country, his country's flag is put on the main square, so why should gay's flag be put on main square during the parade ?

The flags represent them as people : ( in a way, they represent us all )

"red (life), orange (healing), yellow (sunlight), green (nature), blue (harmony), and purple/violet (spirit). The removed colors stood for sex (pink) and art/magic (turquoise)"

I just imagined a life with all these fabulous things. I realized there's no big difference between waving rainbow flag or anarcho flag, they both symolize what I'm for. But the thing I still don't get is why did the flags bother me in the first place ? But nvm.

They put the flags up because it is about Pride. It is more than just a march, in the cases of countries like the former Yugoslav republics it is a political statement and a demand for liberation and freedom from state/social oppression.

Anarchists and other Leftists put their stuff up all over town and there is a fight that comes after it usually...if it means that the Gay Pride activists are looking for a fight then it needs to be done so progress can come of it.

Just remember the first Gay Lib protests in the West like Stonewall were riots, not to mention the riots following the courtcase of the killer of Harvey Milk where Gay activists torched the SanFran city hall foyer. Then there was the first Mardi Gras in Sydney in 1978 which was brutally attacked by the police, people being beaten with batons and dragged by their hair, those marchers who faced the court were denied a public gallery by the police who barricaded the courthouse despite the magistrate's orders not to do so.

All of these movements start with a bit of violence.

I agree. Having been in my schools gay straight alliance and also having alot of gay friends (some of which were on the floats at the Chicago's GPP). Although I don't think they are trying to show themselves in a negitive light. But I hate to say it (and no, I don't agree with it) that that is kind of why alot of people are not pro-equal rights for gays. I think they associate the loud, obviously sex-driven parade with deviant behavior and no offense to any gays, I'd probably assume the samething if I was an uptight religious adovocate. A perfect example (that is not from the parade but just in general) My cousin recently had his birthday in a gay bar. And when my family all went there, there was hardcore gay porn playing on the tvs. I understand you know at straight bars there are sometimes girls in skimpy clothes serving you drinks, or maybe even strippers or gogo dancers depending where you go, but not just straight up hardcore porn. And its like why feed into that negative sterotype? People who are anti-gay already associate gays with being perverted and sexual deivants. As much fun as I have at the parade and support them being themselves, I do also know that it just doesn't show them in a very good light to the general public. It's alot like the Puerto Rican parade we have in Chicago, it's alot of fun, the music and the food is great but its honestly nothing but gang bangers that go there and start fucking shit up. Another sterotype fed into.

Ya this is what I don't get about the pride parade either. Gays spend 364 days fighting against stereotypes like this, and then in one day reinforce all the stupid beliefs that bigots hold against them.

Which Gays? People who ain't straight are just as diverse as anyone else, some want to be viewed as middle-class, white-cottage fenced couples; some, like say, Bash Back, don't; some even march next to neo-Nazis at EDL rallies; along with a myriad of other socio-political viewpoints. Such a statement is disingenuous, especially cos yr kinda talking on other peoples' behalf..

In regards, 'deviance' kinda has fuck all to do with public behaviour. To get a lapdance on the night before a wedding is a right of passage for many, it doesn't prove 'deviance' nor 'reinforce (negative) stereotypes', and such an example is hardly less publicly visible than dudes that like to wear arse-less jeans. In short, there are fairly large sex-driven public performances happening all the time, the 'deviant' ones are only thus due to preexisting prejudices. And its hardly up to marginalised ppls to moderate or modify their behaviour in order to be accepted as non-'deviant'.

100% seconded - and if anybody oh-so-(non)-deviant has a problem with things and sights he/she just isn't used to in all the straight-driven variety of sex-in-public, he/she should take a good lock of the hypocrite inside!

I'm queer. I've never pesonally been to a pride (or a gay bar for that matter) but I can see why people would. It's a day to create a hate-free space and celebrate in it. I think heteros often underestimate how much prejudice you encounter on a daily basis when you're queer. I mean, even I wasn't quite prepared for it when I met my partner. I'd never have expected to have verbal abuse hurled at me, be spat at or for someone to break my partner's jaw just because we were together. To be honest, anyone who's offended by rainbows and flamboyance can stick it up their arse - hey, they might enjoy it.

Prague 'gay pride': Czech capital hosts maiden march
Prague, 13 August 2011 Abuse and moist conditions did not dampen the party atmosphere

Several thousand people have marched through Prague in the Czech capital's first "gay pride" festival.
Revellers in fancy dress waved rainbow flags and blew whistles as they marched through the city centre.
Some 300 police guarded the colourful event, which had stoked controversy and counter-marches.
Earlier this week, a top aide to conservative President Vaclav Klaus, Deputy Chancellor Petr Hajek, labelled gay people as deviants.
Mr Hajek criticised Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda for supporting "deviant fellow citizens."
His comments provoked a joint statement in support of the five-day gay pride festival from the ambassadors of 13 Western nations, including the UK and US.
But their letter drew an angry response from Czech President Vaclav Klaus, who refused to distance himself from Mr Hajek. The deputy chancellor had previously drawn criticism for rejecting Darwinism and calling the dead al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden a "media fiction".
    Vltava converts
As Saturday's march went ahead in light drizzle, riot police held back dozens of far-right extremists who had gathered to shout abusive slogans.
The Czech Republic's Conservative Christian Democrats also held a peaceful counter-parade in support of traditional family values.
But the abuse and moist conditions did not dampen the party atmosphere, as marchers danced to music played from loudspeakers mounted on vans.
The march was to culminate in a series of concerts on an island in the Vltava river, as part of a five-day festival comprising some 80 events - concerts, films, seminars, exhibitions and parties - in 30 venues around the capital.
A gay pride march in the Czech Republic's second city Brno in 2008 ended in clashes.

WOW - smells like victory: 5 days and nights celebration! \m/

at the parade were some 5000 deviants and another 10 000 supporting deviants.

vaclav "family value" Klaus mobilized around 800 conservativeyoungchristiandemocratsagainstabortion.

a few dozen idiots disgraced themselves shouting insults and homophobe slogans.

Don't you think that the bigots are the ones with the problem and not the "Gays"?

A right-wing politician named Bolsonaro (son of a bitch by the way) always use degrading terms to refer to gay parade in brazil.
so I think the term gay parade, should switch to anti sexism parade too.
on the contrary to popular belief, the population here in the city has become increasingly repressive and prejudiced. proof is the current initiative for the creation of the straight pride parade. :ecouteurs:

some reverberations in the limbo between your ears?
do sexual preferences define any "kind of human nature"?

If that is human nature than humans suck! It is not humans nature to be homophobic, sexist, racist, or xenophobic. People just discriminate because they are looking for a scapegoat to their problems. People aren't born racist, homophobic, sexist, or xenophobic. People wanting to raise their minorty to above non minorty does not make any does not make any sense because we are all just humans.
