Ey up anarcho-punks! I'm Ben, from the good old UK, specifically I was raised just outside of Glasgow and live in mighty mighty Macclesfield atm! It's no as excitin as the Macc Lads led you to believe. Been into Anarcho-Punk since I were 14 though that were only 7 years ago as I'm a young 'un. Aw bless. I can't say I'm a partciularly good anarchist as I don't live in a squat, I don't grow or scrounge me own food and I have a secret penchant for Bruce Springsteen (Cor, int he dreamy!) but we've all got our own little foibles, eh. Musically, there are a lot of anarcho-punk bands I care for but the genre as a whole I sometimes think it's a bit stale. Same with crust really. There are some awesome bands but I'd like to know of more that push the boundaries both musically and lyrically. I get tired of the same old chords and the same old beats shoutin out 'Fuck XXXX, they suck' 20 times a record. It's one of my dreams to be part of a band that could push the philosophy and agenda in new and arousing ways - like Chumabwamba, except less embarassing. Hey there, have you tried the Ex? They're a Dutch band, pretty well-known too. They're not explicitly anarchist, but made a record about the Spanish Revolution entitled 1936 (off the top of my head). They started out as a punk band, but eventually decided to collaborate with amongst others: jazz-saxophonists and Erithrean folk musicians. Speaking of boundaries, I think they're a wonderful example. Also Sonic Boom 6 from GB also have a tendency to push boundaries and seem to have anarchist or at least anti-war leanings.
Yeah man, SB6 are based in the same city as me, love em. Also, the King Blues are an amazin band from over ere if you get the opportunity to check em out. I'll give that record a look when I get home, I'm intrigued.
