But an important point to note. Jordan is the only country from which there were no fighting on the border, basically because Jordanian police tear gassed everyone that wanted to engage fully at the border. Only about 2000 out of 20 000 decided to go and they got turned back by Jordanian police :/

Debate on basic principles?
King and Sands never had only "one" side, I think no "hero" in history was the image projected after his/her death, the result was never really successful.
Especially Sands death was very questionable, a great loss to his comrades and the cause, I think the british weren't that unhappy to get rid of the H-Block Ten - and btw. almost nobody remembers the other nine starved to death. To die isn't a healthy example to be given to support an idea.

I think we just think differently. I wouldn't call a suicide bomber a martyr for example but while there are definitely religious connotations so you've got a point but if anything has proven itself to us is that one has to be prepared to lay your life on the line on order to make any change...or not.

There are reasons we remember the dead volunteers of the Spanish Civil War for instance and many of us have menorials to them.

Its because we reecognise their willingness to fight for some form of freedom or positive social change and risk their lives.

To me thats a martyr who died because their beliefs perhaps you think differently but on this you'll never change my mind.

To me its merely a term of respect.
