well, here are at least 3,5 out of 5 tribe-members, I managed to make some photos some time ago, but failed badly to get them TOGETHER on ONE photo just a single time...

and I needed to hurry to do the pics, as you can see the camera is the object of ultimate interest, they kind of literally invaded me/the camera. :lmao:

(also, quality is far from perfect, I needed to brighten the pics up, using windows, so... :ecouteurs:)

I see they are black-eyed and have checks of darker fur - are they a special breed/ where did you get them from?
I'm planning to convert the collectives' feline to vegetarianism! :ecouteurs:

thats a very good question, comrade...

actually, we have not the slightest clue what exactly they are and where they are from, as we are just the shelter at the moment, no further infos available.

the only thing we know for sure, the former 'owner' (I prefer tribeling :lmao: ) must've been an asshole, otherwise they wouldn't have found their way to us... they might be even out of animal testing, but i don't think so...

    a real mystery...

edit: short story, I once knew a cat who literally lived vegetarian, it never ate meat or other animal-products apart from milk...

Because of the eye-colour and the fur I don't think they are from the laboratory breed - most of them are red-eyed and white-only, I'm not sure about the ones offered at the slave-trading pet shops, but I'll give it a look.
Are you shure the feline was vegetarian, don't remember where I was reading it:
Dogs can live on vegetarian diet, but cats can't because of some special metabolism aspects unique to them.
Ah yes, and there is this feline hunting reflex, programmed into their perceptual system - time for some re-education too I guess. (come here, purring grace, come here...)

made me shudder, I am currently reading 1984 again, and exactly before reading THIS i read that part about the electric re-programming of comrade winston. horrifying.... maybe this method? :lmao:
    poor cat...

yes, the cat just didn't like the taste... worked very well, why-ever...
and being held in-house only (city... :/ ), it never saw anything living to hunt down... except from human feet... :ecouteurs:

for the rats, as I said, we just don't know, everything's possible, just to a different percentage...

That was 1984 - now it's 2011 and I got half-a-pedagogic study and a gut full of telepathic worms... don't worry for the feline, she'll like it!

She's a city cat too, agrophobic and never leaving our floor/level/storey because of the "loud" street with lots of people... But she's an expert nimrod chasing the little cars and toys the local youth brigade is running for her. They spend hours playing with her, using a fake mouse on a string to make her ripping the scratch board into shreds, sparing her the claw cutting manicure - fine life of fun and sports for this bed pirating synanthrope.

This. I've had two rats, both died in about 2-3 years, and from pretty gruesome deaths. I heard that, somewhere around 85% of female rats die from cancer, and let me tell you, that cancer fucking grows huge on them. It's so sad seeing them carry around a lump half their size on their side. You play with them, and your heart is literally broken. I love rats, but I don't think I can handle that anymore.

Yeah, I've read the same thing in this vegan living book I have. I was disappointed because I have a cat. I guess some companies actually produce vegan dog food. Who would've thought?

somewhere (it's somewhere all the time) I was reading that the poor rats bred and used for the laboratory have an tendency to develop chancer with a higher rate than their wild bos&sis - it's breed into them, so they are more usable for the medical experiments of the industry.
That's what worries me most - to give shelter to some freed prisoners, only to see them die with chancer after more or less a short time.
My favorite RiffRaff was a wild rat - and she passed quiet and easy to the happy pogogrounds because of old age after some six years.

I've heard the hairless variety are prone to getting tumors, but the whole cancer thing is news to me.

Rats are known to easily develop respitory infections, which are basically a death sentence for them. Keeps those cages clean, people.

have no fear, comrade, for I need to clean the whole room (they occupied our 'guestroom') every few days, five male, stinking rats require it, if we don't want the entire house to smell like rat. :lmao:
(the are not neutered 'cause they're all males, and as every pet-'owner' knows, the money... :/ )

oh, another story: there were six rats originally, but one of them died a month or two after we got them. this rat came to us, because the former 'owner', a local nutzi, killed himself in a glorious car accident while drunk&drugged. stupid fucker. poor tree. :lmao:

I found a german forum with people living with rats, and the tumor/chancer problem apparently on both genders is very prominent, lots of heartbreaking pictures like
Some say it's the consequence of inbreeding, some say it's breeded (spelling?) into them, because of the greater "use" for the industry, some claim it's to kill them soon if they manage to escape or are freed by animal-libs. most links given lead to the ususal suspects, not very convincing in their adorable passion - guess I have found a personal education gap too and I will do something against it - btw: the veggy-cats-question is very similiar.

ah yes, the feline-indoctrination session failed badly, the purring grace was only getting bored and started having a siesta right during the you-are-vegetarian-mantra... talk about a perfect act of civil disobedience.

I had a male hairless rat named Ian Stuart once. He got the name because he looked like a scrotum, and as Ian Stuart looked like a testicle the name just fit somehow.

Blinko just died this afternoon. He's been having breathing problems lately, and within the past day, it had gotten a lot worse. I took him to the vet, to see if there was anything I could do for him, and in the waiting room, he had a bit of a spazm, and became completely non-responsive.

Used to have 2 rats when I was a kid: Pinky and Brain. They're really the only rodents I see the point in having as pets simply because they aren't constantly trying to escape plus they like people.
