How? I'm not using violence to to compel an action or control an action. How am I governing anyone? That is why I asked you if you were willing to kill over someone who owns a weapon.

Also I don't get how I'm paranoid. When my neighbors vote in the US, they are voting to give the state a reason to kill over. When someone votes for drug prohibition of some other kind of regulation, they are voting to kill those that disobey. This is how the state functions and how authority is enforced, all through violence. When you say you and your "community" decide to wield their authority of majority will against another, I just want to know if you will function as the rest of the legitimized criminals that rule this world and turn to violence?

While I'm a pacifist, I do believe that an individual has a right to arm himself in order to defend himself.

Let's face it, the Anarchist society is a long time off. Even even if we \were\ to overthrow the state, gangs would rise up in order to secure their own power. Anarchism is a product of enlightenment and the majority of human beings are base creatures, set in their ways. While one could argue that we don't need firearms in our current society – a society ruled by the state, mind you – if the State was abolished people who claim to have Anarchist mindset would need to defend their ideals from those what would want to re-create the system.

    Punks & Guns

This is one of those topics that I expect to have strongly varied opinions.

What is your opinion on guns and the politics associated with gun control?
    Do you own one?
    Several?
    Why do you support/reject firearms?
I'm sure you get the general idea of what I'm asking.

I was into hunting when i was a kid, but all i really remember shooting is beer bottles. Shooting safely is fun, just not at living things unless they're shooting at you. I can understand why alot of people are anti-gun, but when it comes down to it if a revolution ever occured I doubt we'd settle it with rap battles or rock/scissor/paper.

    Re: Punks & Guns

Sorta. A large bit of my family owns guns, my uncle doesn't even buy food, he hunts it, so I've kinda turned gun maintenance into a hobby. I love to take apart things and see how they work and guns are no exception, In fact I think I actually enjoy it more than most other mechanical devices.

Ive seen some sharp contrast of opinions on the topic though so I'm wondering what others in the community think of firearms.

I'm all for firearm ownership provided its used in the hunting of food and/or legitimate self defence. I see game hunting as a waste. and I'm certaintly a believer that if the police are allowed to carry firearms then the people should be able to also.

    Re: Punks & Guns

Before I answer this question I'd like to say that I'm responding to the topic of gun control in the United States as it is currently and not in an anarchist society. I grew up in Sacramento, California and spent my teen years and early twenties living in a violent gang ridden neighborhood in Fresno, California. I lived in a punk house that was shot into by gang members. I've had guns directly in my face twice. Once by a peer (someone my age) and once by the FBI. I also lived one block away from one of the most infamous mass murders in California.

What is your opinion on guns and the politics associated with gun control?
My opinion is that guns are to kill living things with. I've been vegan for 13 years. I'd love it if everyone would make the ethical choice that I have made and that they don't need to harm or kill animals to survive and prosper. Unfortunately, I've surpassed that idealistic stage a long time ago. At this point in my life I think the U.S. would be better off if certain guns would cease to be sold. I'm not talking about rounding up weapons that people all ready legally own. I don't see the purpose in owning anything other than a hunting rifle if you are into hunting (I'm personally against it but I guess it's less evil than eating factory farm animals) or a small handgun for self defense.

I was looking up what kind of gun was used in the Arizona Giffords shooting because I had heard that it was an 'automatic weapon'. Apparently it was a Glock 19 with a large (30 round) magazine. I don't think the problem was the gun itself but the amount of bullets he was able to pump into that thing. If you need a gun for self defense why would you need a magazine that holds 30 bullets? Also, on the same website I got that information from (http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/01/ro ... nded-clip/) there's tons of comments pro gun comments saying that Loughner's (the shooter) mental health should have been checked. Personally, I do not want someone working at a gun shop or from a government agency that I cannot have a gun because they have determined I'm not mentally well enough.

I also heard of a case in Oregon where a woman recently was rejected a firearm for self defense because she carried a medical marijuana card. I don't think people are getting stoned and then going and murdering their neighbors. It would be more logical to not allow people who drink alcohol to have guns. I don't believe in violence unless absolutely necessary. I don't think that any sort of revolution in the United States would be lead effectively by using guns against the military and police.

    Do you own one?

No, but I'm not opposed to owning one. Currently I have no reason for needing one other than the self defense aspect and though I live in an only slightly better neighborhood now I don't feel at risk.

    Re: Punks & Guns

Personally I can't see a problem with people killing other people(war excluced). I think humans are the lowests form of being and deserve every bit of shit they are thrown, weather it be potato skins or bullets. I also don't think being Vegan on the issue matters a toss, as it is clear we're not talking about "animals" but degenerate human filth. I think maybe we should ask ourselves why we snap and want to kill, not what guns should be legal.

    Re: Punks & Guns

The powers-that-be would never give up what they have without a fight. It would be one thing, like the civil rights movement, where you're trying to change a small aspect of the system for equality--but a complete overthrow of the system? That Ghandi shit won't work in the good ole' U$A. The American government has long ceased giving a fuck what the rest of the world thinks, so the publicity generated by peaceful protests won't be taken seriously except by small fringe groups. When the protests lead into open rebellion, hostilities flare...shots get fired. It would be more practical to shoot back in lieu of lobbing tofu and slogans at the pigs/military. I don't remember the Spanish civil war being fought with drum circles and flower power.

Already at least 3 topics on that. Please use search engine.

Self defence yeah right, that's also the national rifle association's argument, but coming from you, Kaaos-82, nothing is surprising.

Sorry for saying this but you guys have some private problems and indirectly solving them here isn't going to change anything. Please, use your PMs, but apperently you still fight becouse of fashion or whatever the topic was. And why do you keep provocating each other ? :ecouteurs:

@ the topic : In todays society guns are like food. If you want to change something you will have to own weapons. I, myself, don't have any guns or somthing like that. If it comes to fight I like to solve it with brute force. But, if we talk about anarcho-society, guns will be totally useless, although it will secure our peacful life without any revolutions ( caused by capitalists, facists or someone).

    Re: Punks & Guns

Being from Melbourne, Aus, discussions about gun ownership seem to me to be a matter of speculation. I've never held a gun, only ones I've seen have been carried by pigs, etc. I assume you may be in a similar position kaaos (though i'm often wrong)? It therefore follows that I base my judgement largely on media depictions of nation States with high gun ownership (specifically the US) in contrast to Australia; whilst I acknowledge the difficulties in reaching an informed conclusion on the matter, my prejudiced opinion is I prefer having no guns here...
