with the scouts I always help out at a charity flee market on queensday first we go around town in trucks so we can pick up what people want to get rid off so they give it to us if there is something in there that we think we can use we can take it then after the flea market on queensday when we're cleaning up we can take pretty much everything we like good stuff I found here include:

    blind skate deck
    acoustic guitar
    bullet belt(!)
traffic sign (makes awesome room decoration)
    old school dutch army coat

well queensday is coming up again so pretty soon we'll start picking up junk again need to take a huge backpack this time who knows what I find :p

    :ecouteurs:

We had junk day when I was growing up in New Jersey. Best day of the year. My friends and I would go around and pick up all the junk bikes and bring them back to my house (I was the one with little parental supervision) to frankenstein the good parts together into "new" bikes. For a poor kid like me, a new bike was out of the question usually. Other shit I found (which was cool to a kid) were a box of Star Wars toys, a bullwhip, 20 years worth of National Geographic magazines, countless skateboards/bikes/sleds, a like-new condition recliner chair (from the yard of the rich family a block away), a disarmed hand grenade, a slimjim (for breaking into cars), wood and other materials for building forts in my yard, other shit I can't remember--all for the price of FREE.

Just got my ex-housemate a copy of one of those fifties-stylie novelty desk calendars with the rude slogans for 3 bucks.

i have a hard time thinking this is ok, depending on the thrift store. if it's one that actually does some charitable stuff, you really should be ashamed. (unless it's something way overpriced.)

Why? Most charities are religiously based, and the money they make goes to decent causes but with the ever-present agenda. I realize you quantified that with "depending on the thrift store", but if someone donates clothes to charity, what better charity than to another human being who needs the clothes?

well, for example, if it is a charity that helps the homeless i see stealing from the thrift stores as taking resources that could be used to help them. Stealing from goodwill or salvation army is fine, as they are corporate monsters under the guise of charities, but there are a lot of small independant ones, and the way i see it, if they are religious but still help homeless and others, then the people they are helping have the freedom to resist the religious bullshit and and use the resources offered them. But i do see what you are saying.

Well records wise I picked up the following records:
Sodom - Agent Orange Original $29
Bathory - Return of Darkness and Evil Original $29
Rudimentary Peni - Death Church $50
Runaways - Live in Japan (Japanese Press with Obi, Poster cards mint condition) $50
Total Anarchy - Beat the System Compilation $5 (Under the pretence it was water damaged but it plays fine!)
Framtid 8 Track 7" Ep $20 (goes for something ridiculous like $150)

Also stole a Conflict Live in Centro Iberico (the mortarhate one on black).
Some idiot wanted $20 for it so I just snuck it in with the other vinyls I'd brought earlier.
Got a pair of early 80's Rossi Motorcycle boots for free also. fucking kickass boots too

I haven't had great luck with second-hand stores, but that probably has something to do with the fact that I don't frequent them all that often. I've managed to score a bunch of awesome (I use that term very loosely) movies; They Live, Event Horizon, Highway 61, Cube and Bad Taste.
For records, I work one or two days a week at my friend's record store (which is one of the only punk record stores in town), so I've been able to pick up a some awesome used records really cheap; just about every UK Subhumans album, the first Canadian Subhumans album (2 bands, same name, both awesome), all the 7 Seconds albums before they got really bad, a bunch of Dayglo Abortions albums (before I got really sick of that band).

If any of you are ever in Toronto, there's an awesome record store at 860 Bloor called Hits and Misses, lots of really good, rare records, for fair prices. I found a couple original pressing Conflict records really cheap, both R.A.M.B.O. albums and a handful of other awesome 7"'s (Naked Aggression, Bus Station Loonies, Submission Hold...).

Probably my work boots (might be leather, which I am against, but since they're second hand it's fine) or this brown flannel shirt that has started to rip recently (time to patch it :D )

"They Live" is a classic. Roddy Piper fucking up the aliens day, but that lady with the husky eyes was creepy.

Maybe I'd find better clothes at thrift stores if I was the size of a normal human being :lmao:

I found a pair of Hi-Top vans that are usually 60, but I got them for 20. I also Some Docs for like 25 but I didn't have the cash at the time to buy them.

While not bought at a thrift store, I did get a "Vote Darkside" poster with three headshots of Darth Vader from the streets of Paris. It's an awesome wall decoration.

some of the better things I found 2nd hand
my 34" Hitachi TV (got for free from a classified ad)
Adore by The Smashing Pumpkins (original CD)
Sega Dreamcast (got free from a family friend)
once got a couple of original Green Day tapes from the late 80s/early 90s for free at a yard sale but I was a dumb metalhead and accidentally threw them out (really kicking myself for that one)
My entire stereo system is second hand also as are 99% of my CD, record and cassette collection
one bought a boxed Atari 2600 at yard sale for a $1 but I later sold it to a friend with an Intellivision for a half oz of weed LOL
I also found a bunch of mint condition rare board games at a yard sale for $1 each
I think I buy most of my stuff used since I have a passion for the old days
