hello, im from williamette valley in oregon and i started playing guitar a few years ago and i need help with the genres that i want to play. i already posted something on how to play thrashcore/powerviolence, but i need some help with crust, grind, and sludge. my favorite bands are Dystopia,Massgrave,Appalachian Terror Unit,Assuck, and Contravene and it would be cool to learn some of the tunings and structures. i dont know if there is thread on this already but any help will be much appreciated-thanks!

I don't feel like there are global structures you should follow when writing music in the genres you mentioned, just be creative.
But when it comes to tunings, the way to go for crust and sludge has to be drop c or even b, as it makes your powerchords sound really brutal and deep. When I play guitar I usually incorporate unusual chords into my playing, like real jazzy/dissonant chords, they can give your music a more progressive, unique feel.

Fuck it. Plug into an amp, and blast out some tune-age.
