hey my names aaron from south carolina ive been a proclaimed anarchist for about four years whose beliefs sit somewhere between socialist and individualist. my musical interests include but are not limited to punk, folk, ska, blues and early rock and roll. im a young father which puts me at odds with my social and political beliefs and providing a normal and stable life for my daughter. anyway thanks for having me and thanks for the site.

    Welcome :)

Having a kid while being an anarchist in a capitalist society is a juggling act, but if I can do it anyone can do it. I've shown my sons pic at shows and gatherings, and when other people show me pics of their kids in return tells me we're not alone.

hey ifona and marshall law. not that its fast approaching or anything but does anyone have any insight on reconciling an anarchist lifestyle with youre child once theyve started school/preschool if anyone here grew up the poor kid in class they know the social stigma attached. im just not sure how to tell my daughter that ive chosen to be poor and the why is a deep subject for a child to understand unless you paint it from a black and white good guy bad guy perspective. as ive stated in my first post i live in sc which is NOT AT ALL TOLERANT of my beliefs so i fear if i let her in on said beliefs to early it would be like when i was a child and i made the mistake of sticking up for the gay community in school assuring for years to come that i would be labeled a faggot. maybe im just being over protective but i would appreciate some input.

I don't think it's ever a mistake to stand up for someone who needs it, regardless of consequences. I haven't really given much thought as to what I'll do once my son is in school as it's a few years away yet. For now I'm raising him as per my beliefs i.e to not tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, people are more important than possesions and to question authority (respectfully, hopefully it doesn't bite me in the ass one day). The authority issue is something that troubles me. Want to find the perfect balance where I can be an anarchist AND a responsible parent.

A good thread to continue this discussion: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5595&hilit=anybody+parents%3F
