anyone know any good stuff? figured some people on here would be into it as much of it is very leftist if not anarchist.

the real old against me stuff was rad (vivida vis, crime). some of the songs i have heard from 'this bike is a pipe bomb' are pretty good but lots of the stuff that falls under 'folk punk' doesn't seem to have much to do with punk and is really just bad folk with too many kids banging on shit and yelling.

i just watched this video about one of the bands i heard of in this thread.
these kids are doing anarchy a disservice and come off as a bunch of idiots that don't really no what they are talking about.

    Here's a little something I found a while ago.

    http://www.reverbnation.com/peacepunx

Don't know if Reverb nation still lets you download, but that's what I did.

My favorite is Prison Song by Slug's Revenge

Oh, Folk the Police is pretty rad too. ;)

My friend Adam Cz has been in a bunch of really great local (Kitchener-Waterloo) pop-punk/folk punk bands (pop-punk as in Latterman/RVIVR, not fucking the MTV-shit-scorn-from-hell pop-punk). He now lives in Winnipeg, and has put out a really great collection of folk-punk songs.

    Here's his myspace: http://www.myspace.com/adamlovespunk

Want More is one of my favourite songs ever.

I'll talk to him, and with his permission, I'll post a whole bunch of his stuff.

Anyone on here checked out either "Asking For It" or "The Anorexic Olsen Twin" yet? Awesome DIY anti-capitalist folk music by this sweet young man named Chris Burrows from Tasmania in Australia. He's absolutely adorable and so is his music. A lot of the songs are mournful and emotional on the latter's album, so you have to be into that, but he does have some rather good tracks of political musings (particularly the very creepy "Little Birdie" and excellent meshing of personal experience and politics on "A Brief History of Crime"). And a word to the wise, the stuff with "Asking For It" is a little less subtle and nuanced in theme than the "Olsen Twin" stuff, so don't be turned off by that, the first album certainly reflects the age of its creators, although I maintain that despite it seeming a touch silly, the track "Fuck Cops, I Hate Them, I Hope They Die" is well worth a listen.

I like Tom Frampton. His voice is an aquired taste, kinda snotty but endearing.

Also, I'd consider Tim Barry (former Avail frontman) folk-punk. Mostly accoustic country/blues/folk/rock with a lefty slant. Chuck Ragan is decent too. Love Johnny Hobo but that's been mentioned.

    Re: accoustic bands?

Blackbird Raum and the Hail Seizures are a must listen if you're into acoustic anarchopunk. Great people, great music.

    blackbird raum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5WYircR1bE

    hail seizures: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsT1ET_Pjyc

*edit*: forgot about matador, dorota's voice is something to be heard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnXbs90S ... re=related

but yeah i dont think pat the bunny from johnny hobo and the freight trains/wingnut dishwasher's union makes music anymore. last I heard he checked into rehab and gave up music, so these bands are pretty much leading the curve on acoustic anarcho punk on the west coast out of Santa Cruz, CA and Olympia, WA. check out their record label/infoshop "Black Powder Records".
