The way I see it... The problem with new Punk bands is that they are to focused on sounding like the bands that inspired them, rather than being unique. Thats why the Punk scene isn't as active as the 80's, people just lost interest. The bands from the 80's were original so people thought it was new and exciting. So if these new bands would stop trying to copy older bands and would try something different then people would be more interested and the Punk scene will become more active. Think about it, 80s bands sounded nothing like 70s bands, same with 90s bands but the new bands all sound the same. I wish people would realize this!

well, maybe it's just because we are in the middle of it right now. I bet, that when we look back on it 20 years later, we will definitly see the differences. Right now, I think there is a lot of really interresting bands around...

You're right, there are some interesting band around right now but there just aren't enough. More bands should do they're own thing than just a few really good ones.

yeah totally agree with you, you should tell that to KAAOS-82 who say that anarcho-punk is dead because the bands doesnt sound like the ones in 1980...

however in the french punk scene it is totally different, its not the sound that makes a band anarcho-punk but the lyrics and the attitude of the band... A lot of anarcho punk bands from france use a beatbox instead of a drum, as far as i know this is totally unique to the french punk scene, and even if it doesnt sound like the 80's english anarcho punk, this is definatly serious anarcho punk...

check out bands like Pekatralatak, Varlin, la société elle a mauvaise haleine, hors controle, bérurier noir, etc.... They all use beat boxes, it doesnt sound like anything else and its definatly anarcho-punk..

i've never heard of beatboxing for anarcho or other punk music...sounds interesting.

but yeah i agree with ya trevor...i think originiality is one of the best things musicians can utilize. there's some cool bands out here in southern california that do some pretty original stuff while still keeping the punk edge and whatnot.

    check out:
    god equals genocide
    joyce manor
    summer vacation
    okie dokie
    stoned at heart
    touche amore
    peter pants
    moses campbell
    koalacaust

there's a ton more i can't think of right now too...but this stuff isn't anarcho but still keeps the DIY ethic and self-made label stuff too...there's a pretty good amount of indie/punk bands sprouting up around here with a new sound. the anarcho scene around here has been absorbed into the folk/punk stuff, which is cool in my opinion. there's some sludge/crust stuff too, but i can't remember any of the bands for the life of me (orange county was the home to dystopia so it's only fitting i suppose :))

I know some may disagree, but I think Leftover Crack a a band that are keeping Punk original. They experiment with Metal, Reggae, Ska, Classical, and other genres while still being a "Punk" band. They don't folllow trends or try to sound like anything else, they just make music that they like. I think we should have more bands with an attitude like them too.

I think the recent Blackened Crust movement is (well, was initially) pretty original...hell, even within that subgenre you've got super melodic, D-beat stuff like Martyrdod then brutal, thrashy, grindy stuff like Iskra. I also don't mind too much when bands are unoriginal as long as they sound good though, so I like where the scene(s) are today.

just listening to bands that are original is totally pointless. soon there will be nothing original anymore because the idea well is empty. it also pisses me off when people say it's not punk or something because it doesnt sound exactly like something that was made 30 years ago. it's always about the message and motive of the band, even if it's not musical genius, when the, how should i call it, emotion of the music itself goes along with the message, all is fine

In 10 years punk will be how it was. It always comes around again, everything does. People are starting to realize that changes must be made so they will turn to punk.

No it's from Melvin, the singer of Pekatralatak... Some of my drawings are reproduction of his, and i also have a similar style of drawing, he's a great source of inspiration

ah ok nice bands anyway (although I don't understand any french XD) on the topic if you think there's not enough original stuff start a band yourself this is the way most original bands start there was nothing original going on in the thier style so they did it themselves :p

In the UK we've got Sonic Boom Six and the King Blues. They're pretty unique I reckon.
