So i just thought i'd create a thread about tattooing

NOTE: This thread is about TATTOOING, not about getting tattoos or showing the tattoos you have !!! I'd be happy to see your tattoos but please go here: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=3538&p=37210&hilit=Tattoos#p37210, let's keep this topic clean and let's talk about tattooing art...
But of course if you do tattoos you can post some pics from your portfolio to show us

I always wanted to become a tattooist since i was in highschool but i couldn't find someone to teach me... So i finally decided to start anyway, and i learnt the same way i always did with everything... computers, coding, drawings, etc... : by myself :p

Does anybody else have experience in tattooing on this forum ??

I don't recommand to start tattooing without any lessons from a professional but if you are a beginner in the domain and you have motivation to learn don't hesitate to ask a few questions.... Best way to start without destroying people's skins is to buy a cheap tattoo machine on the internet (you can find some starter kit for around $100 or buy individual machines for $10 each)... Just be sure to pratice on pig skin or tattoo yourself before tattooing other peoples.... Once you have experience, tattoo people for free, it is a easy and effective method to get clients and gain real experience
Don't forget that you can find a lot of dvd and other videos/tutorials on the internet that will teach you tattoo basics.... And be sure to ALWAYS take hygiene VERY SERIOUSLY... Wear gloves, mask, use disposable sterile needles and tubes and NEVER use the same stuff twice, watch out for cross contamination

I'll try to add pictures of my tattoos to my website very soon, but i have started to tattoo only around 1 month ago so i have not a very big portfolio.

i'm a professional tattooer. check out my blog: http://vegantattoo.blogspot.com

i wouldn't recommend getting the cheap kit off the internet. i tried that and got nowhere. ya gotta learn from someone who already knows how to tattoo, and that generally means getting an apprenticeship and eating shit for a couple years, but it pays off.

i guess being a tattooer is one of the more "punk" jobs a person can have. there's not much regulation, and oftentimes you can get paid in cash, so you don't have to report your earnings to the government.

wow nice, just checked out your blog, great work !!! i haven't even done much shading yet, but so far everyone have been satisfacted with the job i have done

it's not the machine that makes the tattoo, it's the tattooist ;) i think beginner kits is a good way to start, it can easily do lining job, i got a cheap machine from internet and i know pro tattooist who still use same kind of machines for their tattoos.... i'll stick with that until i get some good machine like an Eikon but first i'll buy a Micky Sharpz for shading and coloring

i learnt everything by myself by reading off internet and watching dvd... i dated a tattooist girl a few months ago but we broke up before i got my machines so it didnt help much hehe... now i have a couple of tattooist friends they helped me to learn the basis

Yep exactly, and it is a good job for an anarchist... It's independant, you work for yourself, you don't have any boss, no exploitation, nobody profits over your work, you work whenever you want, whereever you want, you set your own prices, etc....

So good luck from the wage slave who tried to learn it a decade ago but lacked the endurance and patience...

    @ Corvus.

Your thing says vegan tattoos, which leads me to ask:

Are many tattoos typically not vegan?

heheh yeah sure, i'll tattoo you for free ;)

Anyway i usually charge very low.... usually $15$ or $20$ per hour, thats fucking ridiculously cheap considering amateur tattooist charge $50 to $60 per hour, and professional charge at least $100 per hour :p Thats just because i need to pay back my equippement, i invested over $1200 in my stuff

it's all good, if getting tattoos was more affordable i'd have more then just one, i don't mind paying for them, just not about to pay a lot when my life is in financial ruins... but anyways yeah, hopefully i'll make it to canada someday. It's not like there's much keeping me in the usa...

actually, many quality tattoo inks are vegan; waverly, classic, fusion, eternal, and stable are just a few of the brands. sometimes lining ink/black ink will have bone char or might be made from squid ink, but the real problem is that the green soap typically used by tattooers isn't vegan, nor is the ointment that tattooers use. dr. bronners is a good substitute for the soap, and for ointment you can just use petroleum jelly.. the reason my blog is called 'vegan tattoos' is primarily due to the fact that i'm trying to get business from the vegan community, as the left-leaning but largely not anarchist vegan community typically has more $ to spend on tattoos than the average crusty punk. i gladly tattoo punks for discounted rates/free, (though there aren't many where i live) but tattooing is how i have been solely supporting myself for some time, and tapping into the vegan market by 'selling myself' from a vegan angle will hopefully keep me afloat for a while. there's nothing dishonest about it, i am vegan and an anarchist and if i have to pay for my rent, i'd rather do it inking people's skins than cleaning toilets, which i've done in the past.

I use Intenze ink, do you know if it's vegan ?? And what is the quality of Stable ink compared to Intenze ??

I use green soap, i didn't even know it wasn't vegan, i don't understand what ingredient comes from animal ??
