    what is yours?

this is the definition i got in the dictionary. i for one disagree with it. who wrote it, a conservative? someone who reads the daily paper?

punk: n 1)informal: a worthless person (often used as a general term of abuse) a. a criminal or hoodlum, b. a passive male homosexual, c. an inexperienced young person; novice. (also punk rocker) an admirer or player of such music, typically characterized by colored spiked hair and clothing decorated with safety pins or zippers.

so post here you "passive male homosexuals."

The dictionary said so because it is not meant to be philosophical, also, punk just meant an annoying person or bully before the movement and the music started :p

no, that is the actual definition of the word punk. As in the literary use of the word punk. They named the music after the word.

there cant be a concrete definition of the word punk as a music scene, the word punk can mean different things to different people. To me it was a scene that was accepting of me, and a scene where people out of the social norm usually tend to fit. Just like theres all kinds of music subgenres that fall under punk, theres all kinds of definitions, some street punk kid can say that punk to him is about dressing the was he does neon hair, pins, and all. Others may take a look at punk and say its a way to share ideas of anarchy and equality. and then theres the ppl that say punk is about the "fuck you i do what i want" attitude.

Agreed, sometimes it's fuzz, but it's punk too that the first munich snowcop (life-sized, club included) I was building yesterday in our backyard didn't survive the three minutes I went away to ask someone for a camera to make a picture... must have been those flying Ultra Violent Kivis again...

punk is an Algonquian word...it has no exact translation into english. however, the eastern American Indians used it to describe decayed wood for starting fires. other cultures, such as the Spanish, used it to define prositutes. Anglo-americans have used it to describe a young kid or adolescent who lacks experience. Based on the movement, it's someone who is a part of the counterculture or who plays music that can be defined as "punk rock". basically, the word punk is slang that describes something or someone that is rotten.
