Linkin Park? Punk?

just because a band does an occasional song with a 'good' message doesn't mean they are worth a damn. Linkin Park sucks.

I tried to give your request a chance, I did have to turn the volume off to watch the vid but.

Inre: lyrics. Considering this song appeared on an album released in 2007, it reads to me like a bit of Bush bashing, which was being done by every man and his dog, you know? Hardly revo nor punk imho.

A more 'punk' outlook would, methinks, require more than the demand to replace a bad leader with a good one; rather a critique of the situation in which other people make decisions on our behalf or, more accurately, impose their decisions upon us.

 

Linkin Park and I used to be skins together. We'd drink Guinness and discuss the meaning of laces/braces colors and hate on hippies (while secretly smoking pot and fucking hippy girls the entire time). Then one day I was hanging out against a brick wall, trying to pose my boots to look like the ones in the "Oi!" picture, when along comes Linkin Park rocking a Skrewdriver shirt. I'm all like "Dude! WTF?!" And Linkin Park is all like "Huh? We're skins right? Oi! Oi!" And i'm all like "Nah, fool. That's not cool. We're totally not friends anymore (as i didn't feel like giving the origin of skinheads speech again)."

I really don't where I'm going with this. I just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and type something rediculous too.

 

In your other thread you were worried about punx and skinz calling you a poser for getting braces and having straight teeth, but if you're worried about that sort of thing I think you should never mention linkin park again and act like you've never heard of them.

All jokes aside though, I just looked up the lyrics without listening to the song and ya they sound like they could be from a punk band. But whenever some MTV band has a song with lyrics like that it actually annoys me more than if they were singing about nonsense. I don't like pop music that pretends to be profound.

Also whenever a mainstream band has a song with lyrics like that they get all kinds of media attention and accolades, when punk bands do it all the time and under the radar and want nothing in return from the media.

 

Linkin Park was good back in like 2004 for any kid trying to get through high school but now linkin park just sucks ass and their voices make you want to never admit you liked them at one point ever again. admitting that linkin park is good is like saying my chemical romance is a great band too. its all emo garbage i feel sorry for any linkin park fan out there please do your research and try again

 

Those lyrics lack enough precision to be termed as punk. They could be interpreted politically and broadly anti-authoritarian but surely that's selling actual punk bands short. About as political as The Offpsring and a whole lot less punk (and The Offspring are hardly punk at all...)

 

There are a whole lot of artists with political lyrics. That doesn't make them punk. Punk is about being independent and being kind of honest and pure/rough. I'm not gonna hate on linkin park, they helped me through rough times when I was younger (Even though I seriously can't stand them now) but they are most definitly not punk

 

I remember thinking when One Step Closer came out and I thought 'Ten years on, and this is what our 'alternative music' has become: From "Fuck off I won't do what you tell me!" to "Shut up when I'm talking to you!"' The shame...

 

Their music is unimaginative and uninspiring, but they're popular for the same reason that groups like The Smiths were: they're speaking directly to emotionally stunted teenagers. It's no mystery why they've sold something like 50 million records.

 

over 100 million actually. Yes, a terrible shame, I feel exploited just because I used to listen to them. It's not completely fake in the beginnin tho, the leadsinger actually did go through fakking rough times, and his early career with a grunge band was a terrible time, even tho he made better music back then...

 

Yes, by his dad and a friend of his dad from his 8th to his 16th, and he was addicted to drugs from his twelth year, and actually managed to lose it at the age of 18, and get away from it all. So even though I hate their music now, I still greatly respect the guy for getting through all that, and helping other people with such problems by making music they can relate to.

 

Ummm the smiths musically are pretty amazing, comparing them, to linkin park is absurd, especially considering the smith didn't sell nearly as many records, and in 20 years people will still listen to them while linkin park is not likely to have that legacy.
