I know I'm gonna get a lot of shit for this thread, but I really wanna know if anybody is into some of this. Portland has a HUUUUUUUGE hipster/indie scene and I'm also really into it. Stuff like:

    The Pixies
    Fugazi
    Grande Roses
    Pavement
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower
    Ween

    :/ ?
    Kind of embarrassed. But whatever.

oh god i love indie i work street team for saddle creek records in salt lake city also me and some freinds have done some kind of anarcho-indie stuff which is pretty good. yeah i love bright eyes clould cult uuvvwwz tokyo police club the black angles and just about anything its really good stuff. i think its a shame that so many punks only listen to punk music (which dont get me wrong i love it).

Pixies are awesome. Fugazi too but I wouldn't call them indie...Sonic Youth are rad too, I guess they kinda fit into the whole indie thing...

    The Pixies

Love them, but they have the dumbest lyrics ever.

    Fugazi

    Sucks

    Grande Roses

    Never heard of them

    Pavement

    Sucks

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs

    Sucks and sellouts

The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower

Never heard of them, great name though.

    Ween

Massively sucks, one of the most annoying bands i've ever heard, and not annoying in a fun or good way :p

So it;s only fair for me to give my opinions for other to trash now :)
    Post punk and indie shit I like;

The Pogues (not really post punk but hard to define either way)
    Nick Cave
    Jesus And Mary Chain
Joy Division / early New Order
Violent Femmes (first lp only, pretty much everything else they did was total shit)
    Vaselines
    The Smiths / Morrissey
    Redd Kross
    Sisters Of Mercy
R.E.M. (uber sellouts, but some good tunes here and there)
Nirvana (probably got me interested in punk and post punk sounds)
Murder City Devils (love the keyboards)
    Mekons
    Meat Puppets (2nd album mainly)
Hole (first album only, for obvious reasons...)

Im sure there's others, either way nice to see a thread about other types of music here.

errr Indie and post punk are two different things... Post punk is much darker and less upbeat than Indie.

Post Punk/Darkwave/Goth/Deathrock bands worth listening to in my opinion:

    Sisters of Mercy
    Christian Death
    Killing Joke
    Alien Sex Fiend
    Joy Division
    Siouxsie and the Banshees
Rikk Agnew (not explicitly post punk but theirs a lot of influence there)
    Bauhaus
Rudimentary Peni (Later stuff heavily influential on the death rock scene)
The Mob (UK anarcho punk with loads of post punk goodness)
Anti Sect (later stuff very post punk laden)
    Fields of the Nephilim
    45 grave
    Southern Death Cult

    New bands:
    Spectres
    Bellicose Minds
    The Estranged
    Arctic Flowers
    Deathcharge (later stuff)
    13 Bats etc. etc.

They haven't been mentioned but the Evens! I have been getting a kick out of them just recently (Ian MacKaye is just beautiful!).

Butcher got me onto this band but check out Castevet! They are amazing.

Haha, well now I must retaliate! (out of good nature fun though) :p

    The Pogues - Great.

Nick Cave - Also great at times.

Jesus and Mary Chain - Not a fan.

Joy Division - One of my favorite bands of all time.

Violent Femmes - Fucking grew up on that shit. Me and my mom used to sing 'Gone Daddy Gone' in the grocery store together, because my dad left. (Even though it's about a girl and not about fathers)

Vaselines - Never heard of them.

The Smits - Ohhhh, what memories of ex's...

    Redd Kross - Ehh.

Sisters of Mercy - Hell yes.

    R.E.M. - Horrid. Hate em.

    Nirvana - Horrid. Hate em.

Murder City Devils - Good at times.

Meat Puppets - Not a fan.

Hole - Yes. Hole is great.. Secret confession.

And Snookams: The Strokes, Orchids, and Blonde Redhead are awesome. I also have a crush on Sara of Tegan and Sara.

    Other bands that are good:
    Tapes n' Tapes
    BOAT
    Modest Mouse
    Built To Spill
    Miniature Tigers
    Neutral Milk Hotel
    Oh No! Oh My!
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltin
    The Chinese Stars
    The Spinto Band
    The Shins
    Flaming Lips
    Hey Hey My My

Dissect that if you want. I don't mind.

my opinon on ween is the same as the flaming lips, annoying corporate nonsense :p

Check out DARKLANDS, but be prepared to be depressed, lock up the razor bladees before hand (the same if you ever plan on listening to The Cure's album THE TOP... another post punk classic yet most critics wright it off as drivle...)

Indie-wise, the Pixies and Mogwai, the Replacements...some of Dax Riggs' more acoustic stuff, a bit of Mazzy Star.

Death Rock/Post Punk/Goth/whatever, I've always been into Rudimentary Peni and Bauhaus. When I was on a kick for this type of music a year or so back I started getting into Siouxsie, Joy Division, Alien Sex Fiend, 45 Grave etc.

The Smiths...well I guess I can take them or leave them. Iv'e known several girls who worshipped them though.

    THIS

further, a few people have mentioned Nick Cave, surely its worth noting that by far his best work was with the Birthday Party. Seriously, one can not go past the sexy junkie blues of say, 'King Ink'.

I've uploaded the 'best of' album on apn here
if you like that, their disco is up here
    and some live albums here

also, check out 'Crime & The City Solution'!
