Yeah I take back that last statement i made about sympathy, after having read up a little more.Spirit is good, now we need solidarity. Since when did English students
become responsible for the financial upkeep of foreign students who choose to come here to study :ecouteurs:

Always a pleasure to see that people can and will to stand together against the terrorizing forces of evil; instances like these must never be marginalized(!)

I will try. At the moment every student in England (& i'm sure you know there are 4 separate countries in the UK) and only in England, pay £3000 per student per year to go to University. This subsidises Uni Education in the rest of the UK,meaning it is free elsewhere. Now our illustrious Leaders in Govt. want to hike this to
£9000 per year(again, just in England) so any student wishing to attend Uni here from another country will , in part, also be subsidised.
In effect making a Uni education almost impossible for many & saddling others with severe debt . It will also reduce the required skills in our future workforce if less people attend higher education establishments.Maybe even causing some Universities to close through lack of funding.
Does not bode well in the current economic climate. Not for anyone no matter where they are from. :ecouteurs:

From what I've heard the protesters have mostly been damaging government headquarters and what not. Is that true? If so that's good to see, rather than settling for whatever cars happen to be parked in the street and losing the support of 90% of the public.

this is what i was talking about earlier when i introduced myself. this is inspiring.
what the fuck is wrong with everyone else besides indifference and that "well-it's-not-affecting-me" attitude?

inre: 'its not affecting me' attitude, whether or not there would be similar scenes in the UK had these austerity measures not affected large numbers of students is pretty debatable.

Moreover, peeps in the US do respond to attacks upon themselves and their community.
    news.infoshop.org/article.php?story=2009010801341349
as just one recent incident i remember.

Maybe the moar pressing questions would be: Why are these isolated incidents? And why do they often fail?
(Much the same case in Australia, btw)
Solutions to which i do not possess, of course.

The problem is, Oakland, San Francisco, and Berkley are over looked here in the US, because they're typical "liberal" cities.
I heard about the student riots within 24 hrs after their happening, and actually had to look up the BART cops trial conclusion on my own, because in that area, dissent is so normal, and never marked in the news. In the case of these areas, I think media sensationalism would be a good thing, seeing as they're overlooked.

There was live footage on BBC news of student protests today, and it happened to show seven police officers with batons beating a student on the ground.

I do hope it's on youtube.

Today's protest was concerning the scrap of EMA, but it still applies to this thread.
