It probably depends where you are. The scene is probably better in some place and worse in others. Here' in Austin it's a weird mix, weird hipsterpunks, quit a few New World Order punks, some hatecore skins and nazi punks, Casualty-kids, and balding 40 year old fat guys who try to hang on to the old days when they could actually grow a mohawk. A lot of crusties pass through too since it's the safest place for them to be in Texas, but there aren't any squats or anything. The anarchist scene is almost nonexistent. I'll see a few at some ralleys but that's about it. The scene is mostly adults in their late 20's - 40's, which I have no probably with age, but I think the scene would do better if there where more kids.

All the big downtown venues that play punk shows are ripoffs, but you have to go there if you want to see anything good. Theres 1 underground venue I know of. It's called The Broken Neck, it's in a big car repair place.

Everyone really seems more focused on drinking Lonestar beer and complaining about Obama and the government than actually trying to do anything.

Oh yeah, we do have 1 pirate radio station that's made it to fm. 95.9 Kaos Radio Austin. Which is probably the only useful thing the scene has done here. They play everything from the ooooldest bluegrass to the darkest and thrashiest crust. They basically play anything that isn't mainstream.

I worded all of this kinda shitty but oh well.

Haha Jameson you should get the fuck out of dodge

It seems that it's you mr. Dekline that is concerned with his physical environment.
But really I don't think anyone actually thinks they are changing anything by studding their jackets or coloring their hair.
Isn't it usually if not always for personal reasons people do these things?
Sure you get the kids who just want to look cool and fit in with the older punks,
But you cant generalize everyone with spikey hair and studded leather as an ignorant.
And do I have to tell you not every punk dresses like this?

I think people on this forum understand that I would consider myself a punk before I would an anarchist
yet this very night I'm going to a fund raiser to try and help save the Howard Brown Health Center, the midwest's largest lesbian, gay, and bisexual health organization.
This place offers a sliding scale pay program and a walk-in clinic and is an invaluable resource to the LGBT community

In fact I think that our band, which has studded leather wearing spikey haired PUNKS in it, will be playing our first show there to help try and raise some moneys.
What have you done lately besides complain on the internet?

I have to disagree with you, maybe in the States where your culturally pretentious nature blinds your ability to look beyond your own borders but the reality is you clearly haven't looked into punk bands from other parts of the world. Bands that imitate the Casualties in my opinion are not representative of the real punk that exists in the world. You need only look in Japan, Australia or Sweden to see that the US Street Punk has little to no impact on the style of music from that part of the world. If you want my honest opinion however I think its US crust that is the new fad at least its been that way for the past ten years.

Give me an example of this, there is very few "Nazi" Punk bands in the world and generally bands who aren't leftist sympathizing bands such as Special Duties are lumped into this category, generally nazi skins beat the shit out of punks regardless of there ideology. Nazi Punk is practically non existent save some Swedish RAC band that looks like the Casualties that i shan't name here

and Mr Dekline, what exactly the fuck are you doing that deserves so much praise? If your actually doing something positive, you wont waste your time telling people how to dress or what they can't do. Let people do what they want. not everyone shares your opinion on what anarchism is and what it isn't.

Trust me Kaaos, Street Punk is definitely not 'in' in the U.S., it is tolerated to a certain extent but that's about it.

Most of the US street punk bands have dissipated, the only bands i can think of that are still around is the Casualties and Defiance.

People call themselves punk because they have a rebellious mindset,
as many people before them have had in the punk scene.

Quite worrying about trivial bullshit and get over yourself,
all you do is masturbate your intellectual theories,
trying to prove that you're smarter than others.
    THAT is worth pity.

trivial would be to point out you spelled quit wrong. you do not have a rebellious mindset, you just saw aword that captured your teenaged angst, generalized it, and internalized it. you calling yourself a punk doesnt make you in outlier, a gladfly. you dont ask novel questions, you just wanna fit in your own little sub-genre like everyone else. your denial is worth pity.

even the rich cant afford decent schooling in the u.s, education is limited to those that will tolerate being a left-brain worker for a system that thinks of you as another statistic. im glad my actions arent accepted into your status quo. Bourgeoisie is a term equivalent to capitalist, which i find ironic seeing as how your using modern technology, that you payed for that probably funded more corruption. so your hypocrisy humours me, go buy some gel for your hair that was tested on helpless animals, wear your studs in your jacket. Mr.Fashionista, thats you. your not worth my pity.

Not necessarily. I do not see how someone using 'modern technology' means they are a capitalist or bourgeois. I love how you have stated 'probably funded more corruption', uncertainty is no ground when trying to insult someone.

Awesome, more prejudice used to try and bring someone down! I didn't know every single hair product tested on animals =/

"Wear your studs in your jacket. Mr Fashionista"? Is that supposed to be some kind of insult?

Wear your hood over your beanie. Mr fashionista, that's you.

See? Isn't hard to be a stupid asshole taking shots at what people wear. Oh wait, sorry! Here I was thinking what you have in your DP was void of any fashion. I feel sorry for Kaaos though, he isn't 'worth' your pity.

Hmm, I didn't know that you knew the inner workings of my mind
I think it would be fair to sit here and make assumptions about you,
but that would be idiotic to do to someone I've never met.

Thank you though for so easily proving my previous point

When punk calls punk a fashion punk, that means he has no brain and no life. Who the fuck cares if his fashion punk, let him be, and do something else.

    @ David_Dekline

You know what's even more popular than the traditional "punk" look (and in general, not in the punk subculture)?

Wearing hats and hoodies and having long hair. ZOMG CONFORMIST!

Obviously there's a whole plethora of problems, but I'd say the biggest one is the pretentious older punks. It turns alot of aspiring punks away from the scene real fast and almost did me when I was younger. Who wants to be part of something that guarantees you're going to get your ass beat often and snubbed by everybody older than you? Not that I'm saying you shouldn't give kids a little bit of shit. It toughens ya up. But being a constant prick is not cool. Be nice to the "starter punk" crowd, folks.

I do conform, im not the one in denial here. we all do, i speak english like many before me, so i conform. i wear clothes therefore i conform. punk is not a subculture, wheres the "culture" in it?

"SurgeryXdisaster"....... sustains me. you seperate your alias with the letter x, how rebellious of you. to rebel is to contradict the surrounding norm, not follow it. i didn't assume, i observed. are you only rebellious to an extent? your a perfect example of the cookie cutter effect.

Hey mr. spelling cop, nice work on the parts I've highlighted above

Anyway, I really don't see how you can sit above the rest of us passing judgment. You're (see, I used "you're" instead of "your") posting on anarcho-punk.net about how much punks suck.
Also, the point at which you were asked what exactly you're doing that allows you to pass judgment on people like SurgeryXdisaster remains unanswered. All you did was talk some shit about how you THINK he looks. Let me tell you, I've never seen the fucker use hair gel, and calling someone a fashionista for wearing studs is pretty moronic, isn't it? Actually, since you are the lord and master of all punks, let me know which of the following things make you a "fashionista" (check all that apply)
    [ ] Black band shirts
    [ ] Leather jackets
    [ ] Denim vests
    [ ] Patches (political)
    [ ] Patches (band-related)
    [ ] Jeans
    [ ] Black pants
    [ ] Hoodies
    [ ] Flannel shirts

I will be anxiously awaiting your response so that I can adjust my wardrobe. Or, maybe I could not give a shit about what some fucker on the internet says and dress in the way that appeals to me, just like you probably do.

    In summary, go fuck yourself.
