I bet those kids grow up to think Marine's are great people, and will proudly support them no matter what brown people we're bombing the shit out of, if they haven't joined them already themselves.

    As said earlier, DIY.
Toy's for tot's isn't the only way ever to give toys to under priviledged children. And as far as us being scary looking fuckers, maybe doing good gestures like that on our own will show people we mean to help, not harm.

Toys for Tots is a good cause, we have things like that over in Australia, but they arnt run buy the military.

I admit it is a bit shady, but at the same time i think that it was probably started with the idea of "Lets give toys to underprivileged children" rather than "Lets start an organisation that makes the army look good so we can bolster recruitment."

i agree fuck the military, and ive said that, i couldnt give a fuck about a shot up squaddie.
someone here said squaddies didnt give a fuck about kids, i was calling bullshit on that, as im sure many/most of them do.
im not in agreement that these kids are being brain washed just because a squaddie gave them a toy when they were 5 (or whatever age). im also not convinced thats why it is done.

Actually, the early period of childhood is very important in persons life. Although we don't remember it, most of our personality is formed before we even go to school. If you remember your early childhood, you might see some indications that you will become what you have become today. People change greatly during their lives, but some things that we attained in the beginning of our life stay. And that includes morale and ethics. So basically, fuck toys for tots, kids will remember "nice brave soldier guys who gave us toys". And of course there are good guys in military, and good people who organize charities. But there are evil bastards there as well, so the claim that it is done only out of generosity is as valid as claim that it is done only for brainwashing. I'd say its the combination of the two reasons.

i agree about kids learning from an early age, but a kid given a toy by a squaddie ,isnt gonna see what the squaddie does, and what s/he is involved with, unless of course they show the kids videos.

Did I call anyone an asshole? I don't believe so, but I'm too lazy to go back over the conversation.

Slightly off topic but I recently read an article on somethingthat supports this. Some scientists did research and came up with a theory that we are born almost blank and we develop who we are in the early stages of our lives. Our personalities and how we think are grown through the events that occur early on (factor in the mental state of the person though). Fascinating stuff, to me anyways.

It's not really off topic, this topic is about influence on kids (and the whole all marines are bad, some marines are good shitfight was getting tiring). It's fascinating how little events can change much in persons life. Sort of like butterfly effect. The parents have the greatest influence on one's life of course, but pre-school education is close second. Makes me think that one of the greatest way to contribute to our cause is to work in a kindergarten. You may not be able to convey the message of anarchism to someone so young, as it requires certain level of consciousness, but you could certainly teach them to think freely and be socially aware. I remember how I was taught about human rights, and how to be ecological in the kindergarten, and it certainly played a great role in what I've become today.
