Im looking to hear what other people are doing for there local scene or how you are taking action politically. I havent been doing much lately Id like some ideas on how to become more active. Most of my friends moved away or got in some legal trouble and were sent to jail/rehab or are out of state dodging warrants or are in dysfunctional relationships that do not allow them to do much else in life so organizing seems to be out of the question but i know there must be more i can do as an individual other than being vegan and talking shit about the government.

protest war, by feeding the hungry!
a food not bombs is a great source of activism, either find out if theres one in your community, or start one, although it will take time and help of people.

years ago some of us were inspired by "ProjectAnarchism", written by the german anarchist Horst Stowasser, promoting the idea to plant "seeds" of people living, working and acting collectively into the capitalist "every-day"-society. the concept aims towards the refinement of the individual living by reducing the need to adapt to capitalism, the development of self-determined structures and the spreading of anarchist ideas.

with a hardcore of eight people and a few less committed friends we work for a social neighborhood network, doing many jobs from baby sitting to appartment renovations, repairs and geriatric care. because most of us are punks there was a bit unease about us in the beginning, but after nearly two years we "fade" into the "normal" people, and our part in the network became a bit of an example for others.

after a number clashes we fought with boneheads and cops, people around here resist pressure more openly, especially the immigrants, we try to make them more obvious about the general situation in germany, and organize public movieshows with documentaries and discussions.

a year ago we tried to get a fanzine running and organized some punk gigs, but there aren't that many punks around right now, sadly the responce wasn't enough to continue.

Some of us think about doing the band-thing again and plan to mend music and politics of the international movement with punk - they still practise, we will see what's the outcome and still need a better drummer.

another project is doing food not bombs here too, we already have stores and markets donating food, a handful of volunteers to do the cooking, but we still have to search for a suitable room/location.

wednesday 29. september we did a whole day solidarity action for the spanish and polish general strike and had quite some success, around 500 people took part in the event and maybe we will continue with more political actions in the future.

That's it, since you need a better drummer I'm moving to germoney with you and Vassil! :lmao: lil' check out the Di Nigunim 'Fascist Degradation' video and their EP 'Balagan' I just uploaded, in the video is a shot of Bobby the drummer in a tiny kitchen, that's where we cook all the FNB meals and Wednesday Sep 29th we fed over 250 people! We serve the meals outdoors in downtown San Diego where a majority of the homeless congregate about 4 miles from the house.

I'm not currently active in my local scene apart from attending occasional shows. However, in the past I've volunteered at a local punk record store and a radical bookstore. (I've also volunteered at a feline no-kill shelter, but that's less punk related.) Volunteering with organiztions that are in accordance with your personal beliefs is a fine way to make sure your time is going to use. Making music, or artwork, or writing your own zines can be both politically influential and creatively rewarding.

we already tried to serve in the open, but the authorities reacted very fast with a whole shitload of constraints concerning food hygiene, leftover waste, loitering in the vicinity, and despite the global warming we have cold weather from november until march - so the plan with a constantly staffed canteen came up.
we have dozends of professional homes for the homeless in the city, but still 3000 people are living on the street and need a place to go to, eat, talk, warm up - and we have quite a number of unemployed people volunteering for the staff.
money for renting one of the many closed down stores isn't that problem, the network already agreed to cover the cost and a "permanent" kitchen is more easy to deal with the constraints - but we have problems to find a landlord tolerating THIS kind of project and we already collected about ten written rejections.
but the project is too good to be abandoned, maybe we will cooperate with the official welfare just to get a rent contract, until then, we will continue serving in the open, collecting cigarette butts and packaging waste left by people who still got a home, but no time for using the trashbin...

    warning:
if you really consider to move over here punkmar, you will not only get the drummers job, a crumbling police state to live in during cold winters and the exhaust-fumes-filled rest of the year, a job- and a language problem, but three appartments overcrowded with a weird mix of even weirder looking permanent residents, three young graces & their favorite cat, family drama fugitives, future divorce orphans, visitors, more visitors and visiting neighbors, transients making a stop and the last maoist-from-down-under-the-stairs... not to mention the everpresent spirits of rebellion floating over this ever rolling sea of people...
i would think twice if i were you, but i am me and sometimes i think of making a vacation... :ecouteurs:

Come on Lil, no pretty vacant(ion)...
Instead we should translate ProjectAnarchy and post it with a description what he and his people achieved in real life, like the seven collectives/undertakings still running in Neustadt/baden-würtemberg/germoney, providing "real" jobs for quite a number of people without any hierarchy and repression or more-than-necessary-adaption to capitalism.

for the german and dutch readers (translation link):

I wish, I can't even leave SD county until after April '11 because of an anti-fa conviction and my anarchist background, haven't been able to see my little brother and sister in Mexico in almost 7 years (4 years prison and 3 years parole) but don't be surprised if I do come through to meet you all someday. We were harassed as a group by police at first as well, but the homeless problem here is so severe that the pigs kind of just gave up and drive by with dirty looks but never stop anymore. Our soup and our fruit salad keep them coming back every week :beers: <-----soup.

sorry to hear that you are bound by "justice", some time before we applied for an us-tourist visum to attend a relatives' burial, and got an "unwanted persons" reply, our relation with the us in the past was just too - hearty?

when we started with the free meals it was very much the same: open harassment, endless id-checks, orders to leave the scene ect. but we quickly got direct support from the "normal" bystanders and passers-by (consequence for the community-net work) and after a newspaper wrote a small article about their "over-eagerness", the cops keep more distant - but after this (surprise, surprise...) administrative pressure came up.
its kinda german special: everything must be regularized with prescriptions, the local health authority woke up from its beauty sleep and asked for vaccination certificates, the public order department is concerned about waste disposal and cigarette butts and empty beer bottles and pieces of paper with foodstuff still on it left on the ground and... and... keeping us busy with writing replies and getting the certificates.
we clean up the area before we start to give the meals out, keep those ridicilous alu-ashtrays ready all the time and clean the area again when we have finished...
ok, gobble won't give me vacation, so we have to keep on trying to become an institution...

and to keep the foreign relations hearty: on thursday we have an public evening with a documentary about the german and us-military in afghanistan, a german ex-soldier telling his experiences there and an open discussion afterwards - but i guess the us-embassy won't reward me with a visa for this...

Ive got an idea, my friend volunteers with the mission he got clean in (he religous but in the cool help people sort of way not eat my fucking bible sort of way) and they give out sandwiches and soup in the center of the elizabeth ghetto every friday with no hassle, so i say we wear some crosses and tape bits of anarchist pamphlets in the middle of bibles undercovber food not bombs!!!!

Thanx for the tip, too bad that most of us are somehow allergic to stuff like crosses and holly books, but at least we try to look like angels and saints, and even the muslim activists can do that, so the coverup doesn't end up in a complete chaos of requisites.

Anarchist pamphlets? I wrote a short piece of explanation "Who we are" - and your signature provides the introducing quote - even if most of our "customers" have more urgent problems than politix, some apprechiated the information and promised to spread the word elswhere.

The over all situation got a bit better since we decided to ignore the bureaucrazy almost completely, new official mail is immidiately redirected to a well known lawyer's office, we couldn't afford their service even if we wanted to, but they agreed to support the fraud and now the bureaucrats are impressed and a lot less eager.
The cops on the street are a bit more active since we angered them a few days ago, bad karma, but we get used to their misguided affection, if we can't overcome them, we'll just outlast them.
The feedback of our clients is justifying every hardship and efford, some started to support the event themselves, collecting waste, persuading beer drinkers not to drink directly at the scene ect. - so we have every reason we need not to give up giving food not bombs.
