Ha. that would be funny if I wasn't doing anything besides that gear-related stuff, but no, I do direct action and organizing too, I just don't see a need to talk about it in a public forum, lol.

As for music, I think anyone who lists what bands they listen to is going to be attacked (esp after seeing what just happened here). I mean, I like a few songs by The Cooters (from Mississippi) but I'm sure someone has a rationalization as to why they are "bad" or "sellouts" or whatever. (No, I don't like their newer corny sounding shit.)

I also like The Pinkerton Thugs and The Profits (they used to be a big deal around New England, 10 years ago). As well as The Business, The Clash (don't care about what they do on TV today - don't watch TV cable or otherwise) The Sex Pistols (who doesn't?), Suicidal Tendencies, Crass, The Bad Brains, Fugazi, Minor Threat (seen people ruin themselves with drugs - not thrilled about it even if I don't believe it should be illegal for obvious reasons - anyone who is straightedge for logical reasons and not silly ones is pretty cool in my book), Angelic Upstarts, Subhumans, The Redskins, and a lot more bands than that (old and new). Too many to count. I love a lot of new stuff and Industrial/Experimental music and videos too.

The Ramones. When people were talking about them a lot a few years ago (cuz a prominent band member or two died), we had a lot of debate about them in the punk, SHARP skinhead and artist scene here. The general attitude was that their music was about "nothing important" subject-wise but it had a nice sound, and one of the band members was conservative but the rest were very clearly liberal oriented. If someone likes the Ramones and they are an anarcho-punk, I'm sure it's as a historical tribute, a general draw toward the "sound", and/or nostalgia. I personally have no opinion of them either way. It's interesting that regardless of Punk's ambiguous beginnings it very quickly became obvious that it was an "anarchist" type of music.

And what about a band like The Super Furry Animals? They aren't punk but they had a chance to make millions of dollars off their song "Hello Sunshine" from Pepsi yet they refused. The only (sub-"pop") artist people I can think of with those kind of ovaries are Jonathan Richman, Tom Waits, and Joni Mitchell. (I'm pretty sure they have always had a very strong anti-sellout policy). I never understood, however, why a band couldn't simply avoid the stigma of selling out by joining a revolutionary anarchist group (or forming one.) SFA also has a song called "The Man Don't Give a Fuck". I think we all know what that's about.

I also like most everything from these distributors:
    www.moskito-mailorder.com/ (Moskito Mailorder)
    www.insurgence.net/ (Insurgence Records)

LOL yeah that's why tom waits lets his songs be covered by Rod Stewart, Bette Midler, Scarlett Johansen, etc. Sounds anti-sellout to me :p

it's still funny, mr. re-enactment, until you come up with some inspiring direct action on this public forum, so that others could follow your example - but as far as i see it's only distributors again? :lmao:

after reading the topic i would like to mention that there is a life outside the music too, with people aged 14, language problems and a lack of experience - and i wonder quite a bit what's behind statements like this:
    but:

The remaster of Feeding of the 5,000 (mostly the price), performing Crass songs solo, conflicts with Penny Rimbaud and Colin Jerwood over money. Mostly his recent tours though. It's pathetic.

Good luck, and play whatever the fuck you want.
Even if i love the DIY scene, i would hate to only have to listen to DIY bands to fit some scenes ideals. Play what inspires you, make something that is completely your own from all the stuff you've heard and i'm pretty sure it will be good honest music.

The business part of it will always be fucking shit. Always.

Wait.. you made your points with icons of smilies, one shooting themselves and one going nanny nanny booo-boo? OMG, Amazing. I'm in grade school again?

But more importantly, why would you form an opinion of someone based on a misunderstanding and then refuse to accept the persons explanation? Why would you believe X but not Y? (the stuff about reenactment, but not about direct action?) If you just attack people out of the blue for a misunderstanding or lack of further information and act like they are an enemy (even the most dedicated anarchists or punks), how will anything get anywhere?

It's like how this topic went. The initial poster was attacked for not knowing more about the bands.. then the followup person who attacked them had to defend themselves. Normally people wouldn't behave this way, knowing they're in the public spotlight. Everything on this site is stored on google search, maybe forever (it's how that counter-DIY person learned about the forum discussion about them so fast.)

I know, this is what people call internet drama, or troll wars, etc... still, it's a shame to see the same things happening over and over again. Same behavior as in any other forum.

Read past the beginning of the Wikipedia article that talks about that (that article does a lot of name dropping - they seem to be trying to boost his notoriety by mentioning all the people he worked with - it's hardly his fault), to this part:

read the third part : viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2. Punk is not about making money. If he needs money, he should work, like other punks do. The goal of music is to spread message.

I listen to Jerry Lee Lewis. Am I a poser? Maybe? Whatever. I don't care.

Do you're own thing, and enjoy it. But don't be afraid to broaden your horizons either.

if you get paid for playing punk its the same "upholidng capitalasim" as working in supermarkets.

Jerry Lee Lewis has nothing to do with punk, why would you be a pouser then ? :p

When i write music, one of my main inspirations is David Bowie - Even if i play totally different genres (punk for example). Still, it's nothing like David Bowie of course, because i come from a whole different place.

I can't see the problem. I love Bowie.

Because I don't get why it matters who you like and don't. He's 14. So what if he happens to like Crass and The Ramones?

P.S. Shuei, Bowie is an incredible inspiration! \m/

Hey, lil'apple and punkma77... I was just reading other messages on the forum, and I just realized a couple things...

    1) you folks put up with a lot of crap here (ungovernable especially)... some really crazy opinions. (someone said "this is why organized anarchism is a joke".. thing is, unless you're in NEFAC or the WSA, this isn't organized anarchism, this is about as disorganized as you get. But the fact that people have a lot of silly ideas that go counter to punk or anarchy is a problem everywhere.)

    2) I forgot what I read in a "how to use an internet forum" article (i.e. "lurk more!"), and I jumped right into this place without reading a lot of conversations ahead of time. If I had, I would probably have known better what not to do or say.

Anyway, just wanted to apologize about that.
