Correct me if im wrong at any point but as far as im aware if too many people go on to a website at a time it crashes.
If i am correct in this could we not use this community, in co operation with other anarcho sites, to do planned ''attacks'' on websites of groups/businesses we oppose. By all going on it at a designated time we could fuck their website for a few days. repeating if necessary?

    any thoughts?

This would be way too hard to do manually.

It would be easier for you to learn how to launch DDoS attacks ;) Nazi websites are so easy to crash.... they can't afford a good hosting because no company want to do business with racist assholes!

I know a few hacktivists, but i will not talk publicly about that here. All i can say you is that planning such attacks isn't possible unless you control a few hundreds of infected computers through a botnet.

BTW, anyone heard of ANONYMOUS, the hacktivist group who declared war to scientology? Well, i know from a sure source that a similar group is being built (and is already active but "invisible"), but it's not against scientology but against fascism, racist, and nazism on the web :) The group already defaced/crashed a couple of very well known right-wing and nazi websites for a few days.

Every server nowdays can limit the number of visitors on a site, so if you exceed the number of visitors allowed, the server will block new visitors and give them the "server is busy" error.

And even if you could bypass that limitation, all the big corporations use more powerful and very efficient servers that would probbaly handle such an attack with ease.

Yes but it doesn't block DDoS attacks.

DDoS attack is just sending continual requests to the server from many, many, many locations at the same time. Even if the server answers "server is busy", it is still answering a request and will end up to be overloaded by too many requests. Even if the server returns no page at all, it is possible to crash it by overloading it with requests.

he doesn't need 100 PC in control to launch attack to turn down website, it is enough to create network of people who will visit one website in the same time and refresh browser every 5 seconds. for 5-10 minutes, website will be down.
such action was done before one year against websites of state institutions in greece.

no. we could never get enough people for this.. and it would just add to the number of hits on the website and increase their popularity and advertising

call people for action in the same time, at websites which are very much visited, like www.infoshop.org
if infoshop publish news, many people will participate.
anarchist web servers also have many users, so they can send email to all users to make action in the same time.
as I said, it was done against institutions in greece. it was public call and people did it.

what rebel said. it works--in fact, people like comic writer warren ellis have done it entirely by accident, via twitter. he'll go to promote something, drop a link, half the damn internet hits it, and tiny site goes boom. every site has a limit and the smaller sites just don't have the hosting capacity for a crowd like that. even big sites will get slowed down to the point people will get frustrated and move on, if they don't crash entirely.

DDoS attacks are also a very effective tactic.

the thing you have to remember tho, is unless there's such a huge cost/time drain that the site is forced to shut down entirely due to constant attacks and bandwidth issues, these should all probably be considered temporary measures, so there's always timing to consider--the anon vs. scientology war was nicely timed due to mainstream attention. the media outlets were doing the promotional work and served to fan the flames higher.

I doubt sites like indymedia and infoshop would accept to publish articles like that, since it could cause them trouble.

with softwares like "raep" you can automatize the flooding of a website (automatically reloading the page every second).

If 50-100 peoples participate at the same time, you can crash a small server.

I've considered enlisting the help of /b/ and Anon for a few things I've been working on. The trouble I find is that you need something to get them going, since they do everything for the lulz, a political agenda isn't much in convincing them. It's a shame, because a group that large and tech savvy would be able to deal a fair bit of damage. It would be worthwhile to try and work with them, since from what I've seen, they can get behind a cause and they can bring change. I mean look what they did to Scientology's reputation in mainstream media.
