Just straight edge. I'm not really fond of the term though, but I do value highly keeping myself healthy.

Meat's too tasty for me, sadly, to just give up. It's also always been easier and cheaper on the wallet to get the full range of nutrients by just consuming organic meats. Plus I work out a lot, and I'm afraid it will make me frail. Any tips from weight lifters that happen to be vegetarian/vegan?

I´m vegan but I smoke, drink and take snus.
Sometimes I wonder why the hell did I become a vegan... But then I remember. Those poor animals are being slaughtered by shitty industrial capitalist cooperation´s. And the planet is dying to! What can I do about it? That´s right, I can be a vegan! Oh, I´m already. :ecouteurs:

And, left wing right wing they can stuff a lot!

Yup,l you can be vegan/vegetarian and have a high protein diet. Never really cared for body building, but if you want to do strength training you can do it without meat...

I could never understand why do religion and straight edge go together so well? We used to have the Krishna thing here for a little while in the 90's, it died down with the popularity of straight edge, but from what I've seen it's still out there on a world wide scale. Now as I said local sXe scene died some time ago and some of the more influential people have since crossed over to the dark side of football thugs and ultra nationalism.

So why do edgers pick up religion? Is it just because it promotes the lifestyle they choose? To me that is a very weak reason. Is it just a trend? Or more of a cheap thrill? As I have seen people go sXe because deep down they tought it would be extreme and badass...

Re: NYC Sat.Oct. 3rd - EDGE, Perspectives on drug free culture (THE MOVIE)

i know quite a few edge women. one of the most interesting (i don't know her however) is dana dearmond, a famous pornstar. she does a lot of really "non-PC" stuff, bondage, "torture", gagging BJs (can't remember the word for this, it looks like it's forced, like rape) blah blah... as well as mainstream porn. FUGAZI is one of her favourite bands... it's all very interesting considering songs like "suggestion". well, not really... i know a LOT of "empowered" "feminist" women in the sex industry personally.

for what it's worth. i was vegetarian for 8 years, 6 of them vegan. i was a hopeless unhealthy vego, but quite good at veganism. i stopped when i lived in the desert. some nulla folk (read: "aboriginals") cooked me and my friends a traditional meal, and it would have been insulting to refuse it. i made a choice then and there... if i eat this, then that's that. and i did. i wasn't sick or anything, although i ate all sorts of bits of a kangaroo, guts and everything. it was pretty easy living in the desert after that... there ain't many tofu-beasts roaming around out there!!!

actually come to think of it, i wasn't really vego for that long, because i smoked on and off during those 8 years. you can't be vego and smoke (in my opinion), because of the torture and vivisection done on animals by tobacco companies.

these days i still mainly eat vego meals, just have meat whenever i want it, with no qualms or guilt about it. i am pro-vegatarianism/veganism, but it's just not my fight anymore. i still find the weird "elitism of diet" thing very odd though. i respect sXe folks, but wonder why the label. they used to just be called teetotallers (read: pissweak, hahaha!!!). i wish i had enough self control or whatever to live that life (actually...not really), but i have way too much fun being a drunken ratbag, and giving the edge people something to laugh at.

I'm against the meat industry, but not meat eating. I do not believe killing an animal to eat is murder. It is animalistic perhaps, but not murder. I see nothing wrong with recognizing the animalistic side of the human experience. If we avoid it then we place ourselves in with the pious and self righteous.

Because I live in an industrialized area with much tofu and more alternative to meat I can quiet easy live vegetarian but this is my own decision.

But it´s true, there are well known arguments for this. It wouldn´t be wrong to askmyself why I didn´t manage it to be vegan but this would be too much abnegation for me.

I'm not vegan/vegetarian myself, as I've said, but I thought this might be of interest:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkioqNv3 ... r_embedded
A proposed appliance by Electrolux would grow a packet of cells and nutrients into meat and fish, without animals being harmed in the process, or the enviromental impact of factory farming. This process is not yet perfected but will probably become commercially available in the near future. I'm curious how this will square ethically with the more militant veggos.

hi, just wondering, does this mean that you think it is absurd that non-human animals should be given as much love and respect as humans? absurd that we should strive for their freedom, as well as that of our own species? how is this absurd? so, we are different species. and we ARE different to each other. but do you also think that equality of the sexes is absurd? because men and women do have many differences. but should these not be accepted, understood and valued? they are the beauty of life, no? and different cultures/races within the human race. many differences, but again, is it not beautiful to embrace these differences instead of fearing them and breeding racism? although each and every one of us are different to each other, are we not equal in our hearts? none of us rank higher than any others do we? i hope you agree with that!!

so, why when it is another species, do a whole new set of rules appear? do humans rank higher than all other species on this planet? do you really believe that? humans... we brought war, pollution of the seas, the land, the air. what makes us so special?
