What would we do with our pets and horses/cows etc. if we live in an anarchistic society? In some cultures dogs are food for instance. If I'm keeping a dog am I keeping a pet or hogging a potential meal? And what about animals that need a large plot of land for their wellbeing? If I want to keep the horse or cow or whatever I probably would need some fencing. But would fencing off a piece off land that otherwise could be used for growing crops count as theft? And would others be allowed to milk the cow whenever they felt like it or take the horse for a ride at any given moment? Not everyone would have the same respect for the animal.

i dont see why you wouldnt be allowed to have your own pets and such...

anyway, stop talking like anarchism was some defined set of rules everyone has to conform to.... those things would be decided by the people part of the communities, anarchism isnt going to tell you how to manage your own society... if everyone agree to establish a vegan community without domestic pets then its fine, if not it will be built the way the community members decide it...

I'm not asking for a set of rules or trying to impose laws on a lawless world. This is more a question of morality. It's also a seeming conflict in two bases of a free world.
You might've read about Pantisocracy, the idealistic world that Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his friends wanted to create. A world were everyone was free and helped each other out. They would have no property and would share everything, even the women.
Now in our society labeling wives as property sounds ridiculous, but in 1794 things were quite different. By 'sharing wives' they would set the women up for a life of slavery. Doesn't sound very Utopian to me.
You see, it's a matter of culture, a question of humanity and morality and a question of how far would you go with anarchy.

Well Raven, this is the great thing about anarchism. YOU choose what you find acceptable and what not. There are no set ideals or rules within holding animals in an anarchistic world (Or any rules for that matter) It's on you to explore and see what works for you and/or the community you live with.
Look, the way i see it is, that if we are living in an anarchistic world you will have to find like minded people to build up a community. (If i say community i don't mean that it will have to be with a lot of people!) and through talking togheter you find out each others skills and hobbies and learn to combine that. For example: in an anarchistic world you don't HAVE to grow your own food if you don't want too, but still you need to eat, so living with a community where people do like to grow vegetables can be very handy! Still it is only logical if the efford and time they put in for giving you food get's achknowlegded. Maybe your good and breeding horses. So you can give them horses to wok the land where you vegetables are growing... You understand what i mean. It is just a stupit example maybe, but i think it will be a lot like this in an anarchistic world.
There will be many different communitys all working in different ways. Bed there will be tons of vegans putting they're energy in building something up together, but also many other forms of communities. I bed there will be people holding animals too. It might take decades to create a strong movement, through discussing, talking, exploring, experiencing, working side by side...but that's ok, right?!

how far? like as far as direct democratic decision making on such issues?
I don't see where this moral conflict is, can you clarify?
