Anarchist Catalonia is a good one. But really, the lack of strong anarchist communes doesn't speak about any "failures" on anarchisms part. It shows that the bourgeoisie have far more power than the working class does.

what lack of anarchist communes? just because they don't advertise doesn't mean they don't exist. i've visited several, and apart form occasional drug abuse, most of them functioned really well. not that i have a problem with drugs, just people who use them too much to hide from life.

When i was in 5th grade (early 2000's my friend stole one of his fathers cd's. He eagerly showed it to me and several others. The Band was called "The Dead Kennedys" and the album was Plastic Surgery Disasters/In god we trust inc. the first song i heard was "Forest Fire".
I then immediately ran out and purchased the cd and listened to it over and over and over. I then wanted to find other bands that belong to this mysterious genre known as "punk". no one i knew listened to punk so the only place i could turn to was google. Google introduced me to plenty of "American Hardcore" punk. By chance, my mom's friend's daughter gave up on being a "punk", which thinking back on it is an absurd statement. (she gave up punk because she thought Crass was a nazi skinhead band and that they were still around haha.) anywho... I googled the band Crass because i have never heard of them, i then read a bio on them and listened to several songs. From there my infatuation with Crass and other like minded bands grew. Before i knew it i was listening to several sub-genres of "punk". Street, Oi, Anarcho, American Hardcore. until about 2007 i realized that Crass was considered Anarcho-Punk. I then found a book "Day The Country Died" by Ian Glasper that introduced me to soo many Anarcho-Punk bands. Then i came across Amebix and started listening to Crust and Grindcore. I then accidentally came across Powerviolence by clicking on a band "Charles Bronson" link, the rest is History.

Bands i Listen to: Crass, Conflict, Amebix, Flux of Pink Indians, OMega Tribe, Icons of Filth, Rudimentary Peni, Subhumans, Destroy, Disrupt, Capitalist Casualties, Charles Bronson, Crossed Out, Contravene, Aus-Rotten and Discharge, Etc.

Still not a punk, never will be one. But I got into the music through The Clash and The Adolescents.

I found The Adolescents because their song "I Hate Children" pretty much summed up my life because I was caring for/teaching a group of brats for 12 hours a day. That's where it all started I guess.

The first punk bands I actually listened to, years before The Adolescents, were Crass, because of all the kickass stunts they pulled, and The Clash, because London Calling happened to be on sale. But I didn't get really into them until later.

I believed in anarchism before discovering punk rock. I just saw this A in a circle and I thought "what the fuck is that?" so I looked it up on wiki (I know. Wiki. :ecouteurs: ) and later I found infoshop.org which answered most of my "How would this work?" questions.
I still prefered hardcore punk to anarcho until I discovered Subhumans last year. They're totally my favourite anarcho-punk band now.

How and when did you become a punk?

I don't think I want or deserve this label really

    What influenced you?

At the time, I guess having different opinions to everyone at high school and not fitting in with most people.

What is the first bands you discovered?

I really couldn't say, but I know I've been a big fan of Exploited, Chaos UK and Bad Religion for a long time.

When and how did you become more anarcho?

I don't think I've become anarcho at all. I really don't know what category I fall into politically, I don't even think about this stuff. I always want to learn though, about anything interesting :p

became a Punk when I was 8 years old, Older brother had a bootleg copy of the Sex Pistols show at the prison they played, I liked that they said fuck all the time. Grew up through the LA ranks, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and whatnot, got into Conflict, Exit-Stance, AYS, Crass in the mid 80's. Later on More of the Metallic Punk like Sacrilege. I model my band after the more metallic side of things. Call it crust. I call it "more then 3 chord punk" which very much still has a very deep rooted place in my heart, but after playing in bands for over 20 years it's time to get a bit more technical, but the message is not in the music anyways, it's in the lyrics.

Discovered punk rock in 1979 while skateboarding! First heard the Sex Pistols, 999 and The Clash! Ha ha, I think i was always a bit anarcho... Formed a band in 1988 which lasted 10 years and then went solo/The Pukes... Can't be fucked with "musical abiltity", just like to have a say...

Yeah, I have quite a few songs, but ha ha, not many that I particulary like to listen to! I don't have anything up on the web, otherwise I'd give you a link... though I'm going to compile a CD soon that will be made up of songs from Dead Centre, Boris, Mike Puke and The Pukes. A bit of a compilation of my songs from the last 21 years... there will be quite a few of the better Dead Centre songs on it!

What are the three recordings you have?

Oh yeah, I also have four 8 track reels consisting of about 20 songs from 1996 that have never been released... maybe I'll do something with those one day!

about 6 years ago, i listened to those pop punk shit and got sick of the shitty BGR shit, so i did some search and found sex pistols, the ramones, and etc(the usual shit). got sick of the sound and their fake idealogies and discovered crass. from crass onwards, i progressed onwards discovering more bands by looking on local punk's patches and jackets. at that time, i was getting sick at the fact that i can't have the freedom of speech where i come from(singapore). i still consider myself new to all this. only been to a crust show once and from that day onwards, i vowed to be on the left! now, i listen to anarcho punk, crust punk, hardcore punk, thrash metal, thrashcore, crossover thrash, grindcore and some other metal sub-genres....yeah.

Work Buy Consume Die came out on a Nelson compilation in 1996! It's one song from the last batch of recordings we did that have never really been released!

Fascist Wanker is from 1995! The Pukes also play that song, I'll get round to finishing The Pukes version of the recording sometime! There's a live video of it here by The Pukes from 2003 -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue7M3sUS3Ik

Feed Us Lies... there was a couple of versions of that song! The later one had a longer intro put to it and it became a bit ska (sort of). I recorded a version of the later version for the latest Mike Puke album! I'd imagine you'd have the earlier version...

I've actually been working on that CD today! As it stands at the moment there's gonna be 11 Dead Centre songs from 1988 - 1996, 1 Boris song (live) from about 1990, three Puke's songs from 2007 and 10 Mike Puke songs from 1997 - 2009.

Good luck with your recording, I hope it all goes good for ya!

Yeah, sounds like the later version of Feed Us Lies! Yep, we had quite a lot of Dead Centre artwork... posters, record covers etc... our drummer was a good artist, he did most of it! I don't have much of it now though, just a couple of posters really and the cover from the 12" record! I don't think any of it's around on the net...

Been flat out on that CD, just listening to the first copy now! Just need to get the covers printed really... when I make my way to Dunedin next! It's a bit of a no frills CD, but it's got 29 songs on it!

You know, it's strange really.. when I was 12 yrs. old, I had been exposed to some more or less "extreme metal" like Slayer/Kreator/Sodom etc.
from all the "thrashers" in my Trailer Park, Never any punk, (though I did know of AGNOSTIC FRONT, but were told they were "speed metal")
until this one day at school. I used to spend my lunch period in the school's Libriary, reading, as you do when your a maladjusted chubby teenager.
A very welcome escape. I really liked being in there, left alone to read, or draw, on of the main attractions was being able to listen to my Walkman,
blasting Venom and other "evil" music into frail ear-drums, This, was not allowed. I mention this, because it was a "special" privilage for Me.
You see, I had become friends with the new Assistant Libraian, named Matt Thompson. He was one of the only people, (student and faculty) that-
was nice to me. Letting me sit, read my DragonLance novel's draw, etc. and like I said, listen to my music. One day, I came into the Librairy, like
usual, heading back to my little corner, all the way to the back, behind the computers, my little nook. Matt's face lit up when He saw me skulk toward
Him-"Juice!" He said, calling me by my nic-name, "I've got something for you!" He said, grinning ear to ear." Really?" "What is it?" I said, oping it was some left over take out he couldent finish (I told you I was a chubby kid) or maybe even a candy bar.." A tape!" the tape. He had offered to make me a tape a few weeks prior to this one- He had asked me-"Dude, you like stuff that's really FAST and all HARDCORE right?" "Sure." I had replied, as it was indeed true.
"Well, I'm going to make you a tape of some of my old albums, I think you'll like it." "O.K thank's Matt!" I said grinning. I always liked him, even if He was
kinda nerdy..With those big glasses and all... So here it was..The TAPE. "Be right back.." He said, ducking into His office-" Here you go!" and drops the cassette into my hands. I didnt listen to it right then, as Matt started telling me about the bands on the tape." Minor Threat was a band I was really into about 10 yrs, ago, there shows were so crazy!" He enthralled me with tales of slam-dancing, and punk violence-" The first time I did a stage-dive, was the first time I
saw the DEAD KENNEDYS thier on there too, the singers voice is sorta annoying, but it's cool." We sat and talked until I had to go back to class, the last one of the day, (thank g-d) Math..with Mrs. Couch ughh. My least favorite class.( She was later caught masturbaiting under Her desk in front of a class, but thats another story all together..)When the bell FINALLY rang, and released me from the hell that was Bayside Middle School for the weekend, I picked up my stuff, and headed out the door..I was walking down the hall, in the midst of the styles of 1993, (I think EVERYONE was rocking a Starter jacket of what ever football team was on top of the game) I put my headphones on, and pressed play..Volume all the way up, the familer hiss of a cassette's dead air, then...
The bass line to Youth Brigade's "It's about time" blasts into me like a fucking train...I immediately felt like running through the crowded hallway, shoving all those assholes I went to school with to the floor "It's about time we had a change, fuckers!" I would scream..But I just walked to the bus, took my seat in the back of the bus, music still blasting into my head, and smiled. I knew it was for me..

Never looked back from that November afternoon, I became obsessed with Hardcore/Punk. I listened to everything I could get my hands on, which brought me to CRASS,CONFLICT etc. And to Anarchisim. Alot has happened to me since that day, a path that was forged by a bootleg tape of old USHC, (and some G.B.H haha) I've stayed involved with the scene most of my life now, and good or bad, it's what I do. I don't know any other way to be. No "tri-hawks" anymore,
and my Bullet belt is just too damn heavy. I still buy current records, book shows, play in a band, have toured the U.S and Europe a few times, and hope to
    continue to do so.

17 years later, I still feel like pushing people too the floor, everytime I hear that song.
