    Is it dead?
I could give a fuck. I still like it, it changed my life, got me into politics. It did something good, it woke me up. It can't be "dead" (whatever that means) if it is still a tool for information. I would not be who I am today if it weren't for punk rock, so it isn't dead within me.

Nonody said anything about dying. When music goes underground, it's part of the underground scene. That means that it less accessable to people than more mainstream music.

And just because a band says something, doesn't always make it true. The whole point of punk is to decide for yourself.

They said it was dead in 1984. That was before all the merch.
AND they're not shit. They can do what they want with their symbol. You can't 'sell out' as a band unless you are still a band. The Germs let Vans sell 'Germs Shoes', but that doesn't make Darby Crash and Pat Smear posers just because they were in a band whose symbol has been bought by a giant slave labour corporation.

    i disagree.
I don't want all kinds of wankers to recognize me as a fellow citizen in their society.
Theyre insane as well as the system they support and i wish they'd leave me out of it.
They don't, alas I leaves me out of it myself. :ecouteurs:

Actually, Crass said punk was dead in 1978, on their first LP.

Anyways, we did decide for ourselves to go underground. We could of gone somewhere else yes actually.

Look what I'm getting at is PUNK IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!! If you think that punk is dead and long gone, great, that's your opinion, but just because I don't think so doesn't mean that you should push something on me. That's that.

I agree! It seems to me punk went in two directions: underground  & mainstream :o .
And if you look back at the late 70's & 80's scene, you have to admit that those were times when punk was a blast. It was something new, It was cool if you were a punk and I guarantee you that there was a whole lot of pouseurs punx back then also.

It will never truely be dead as long as there are bands who play punk, anarcho or otherwise. Once bands stop playing punk the scene will be dead, but that will never happen, like the hippie scene never died. It's just not as OUT THERE as it was in the 80's and it's serious resurgence in the late 80's-early 90's. There are enough bands and gigs that I would say Punk is very much alive and well.

being elitist doomsday prophets for starters and the lyrics of "punk is dead" as a second, allow me to quote:
no you couldn't you silly tosser, you've got your so called political views incorporated by the bastard who sought to reunite the clash. so much for those 15 minutes..

of course they can do whatever they like with their band logo, but its not a question of "selling out as a band", more a question of sacrificing your once so higly valued points of view in exchange for an substantial amount of green paper which you are allowed to use as currency to attain material goods in the society they so blatantly took distance from.
isn't that the exact reasons most people despise the sex pistols...?

and I know nothing of these "posers" you refer to.
In light of an opinion brought to me by my mate right next to me, i've got a question: how did you become a punk? kicked your way out of yer mothers womb with yer docs? born with a mohawk? got your piercings infused through the umbilical cord?

    i'm grat ain't i

They never said it was wrong to steal from the system of losers who feel they have to wear a Crass shirt for street cred. I believe the real crass fans won't want their merch shit, so all that's left is non-anarchists, and who cares what they buy? Democrats are suckers!
I actually despise the sex pistols more for getting famous on the name of anarchy when they weren't actually anarchists. Except Sid.

Doc Martens sold out, mohawks take way too much work to keep standing, piercings just make you look like everyone else these days.
This is a sad world, where the punk look is inflitrated by the system, turned trite, and above all, expensive.

There are loads of punx with no anarchist attitude, and that's fine. Who said, that punk=anarchy? If we cut the definition of "real" punk to @ punk attitude, then sure punk is fucking dead. There are differnt ways of being punk, and that's the quaranty of our independence, and this way nobody can wrap it with the plastic and sell... I am @ punk myself, but I don't believe, that I own all the answers, and I don't believe anarchy is an ultimate solution. Freedom is the solution. Punk means to see the things how they really are, and to be alternative to this fucked-up society: alternative by the way you think, alternative by the way you wear, alternative by the music you support and listen to... @ punk is just one of the many ways to express our anger.
