I've always wondered what the deal is with this label. Every band on their catalog has the ultimate fashion accesories/leather jackets/red, green, and purple mohawks and pictures of their backs.

My questions are: Who runs this label? and How do bands get signed to this label? I'm guessing for the latter question that they have to send them a presskit with plenty of pictures to make sure they're the right image, because I don't see one band on their catalog that isn't totallly fashion-oriented.

So what is your real question then? Do you believe that punks with mohawks and studs aren't punk anymore?
People on this site seem to confuse (deliberate or not) punk norms and culture with anarchist objectives and anarchist structure. They aren't the same and people shouldn't suss out one for the other either.

Not at all. I'm not debating what is "punk" or "not punk." I'm simply noticing that every band on their catalog has exactly the same style of fashion and the same pictures of themselves with their backs to the camera on nearly every single album. What I'm thinking is that if a band played the same street punk style of music, this record company wouldn't sign them unless they looked the part.

That may be true, although I doubt it.
Familiarity breeds preference and those who like the street punk culture are more apt to buy from a record label that signs bands that are of that culture. They probably stay away from doomy, crusty bands not because they don't look the part but because they're more metalic than straight "street punk" and would probaly suffer for it on that label.

you see lables sign specific trypes of music all the time. there are certain lables that sign crust bands liek profane existance. then there are the grind core lables like earache records. i guess punk core is just a street punk orinted lable. and nothign is more punk then havign your back to the camera with your hands on the wall so you can show off your casulties butt patch \m/

Hah. I went to their page to take a look.. and so far every fashion/street punk band I know of is on there.
It sucks that Cheap Sex is on there but that's because of the whole virus thing... and it sucks that LCB is on there, they're a local band here and they do have some shit songs but they have some great ones too, but I get why they're on there.

Not entirely. Members of defiance have gone on to be in very impressive punk bands, but getting back to punkcore the record label: they've been known to sign nazi and christian bands according to Blood Spit Nights (Portland band with ex members of Defiance). They've been a lot of shit bands on Punkcore: Action are the best more recent band on the label, they've also made CD issues of Chaotic Dischord and the Varukers, both classic punk bands.

I used to love Punk Core. They were a very important record label for street punk, keeping it alive through the 90's and into the 00's (in terms of having bands big enough to go on tour). It is run by an ex-member of the Casualties (I'm pretty sure, an ex bass player, who played for a year with them).

Fashion is just as important in street punk as it is in crust punk and other various genres of music (whether or not you realize it), and who really cares what people dress like just be happy punk rock is alive and kicking (although street punk is dying out).

    Exactly
In fact crust seems to be taking the place of street punk

Also i like all these bands who have been featured on punkcore:
    A Global threat (R.I.P)
LCB (they've started to get worse)
    Action
    Devotchkas
    Varukers
    Chaotic Dischord

    theres probably a few more

Oh! and it is Mike Virus who runs the label,
which is why people blindly bash all other bands on there as crap

no complantes about varukers or action. used to liek lcb but now find them kind of annoying as they have become overplayed everyday punk. same goes with a globle threat...

    Overplayed by who?
Lcb has gotten pretty bad live,
i saw them a long time ago in a small pub and they kicked ass.
then i saw them open for cock sparrer with a member of cheap sex on bass...
they barely played any songs that anyone wanted to hear, and played at an annoyingly low volume

but these bands are what got me through the beginning of high school
so they'll always be personal favorites

AGT is who opened my eyes to anti-fascist ideas with songs like:
    Fucking racist maggots
    elitist attitudes
    stop the violence

although they sound it, i'd say they're very far from the generic chaotic street punk

    So true.

Although in DC, Straight-Edge HC is taking over. It kinda really sucks. Not the music, but a lot of the kids in the "DC punk scene."
