A friend joined this facebook group called "Stop Bolivian soldiers from using dogs as target practice!" and this is how i discovered the story. First i thought it was a rumor but after searching it is really true:

Wicked rotten soldiers in Peru seem to think that live dogs are as good as human shaped dummies when it comes to combat training.

This is one of the sickest things I have seen and I am just in awe of how wicked and rotten someone needs to be to kill a dog thats tied down and completely defenseless.

I can not see how killing a helpless, tied-up puppy helps combat training in any way other than to make the soldiers more heartless than they already are, which seems to be the point here. The point of the training is to make sure that the soldier can kill a helpless individual without discrimination, regret or guilt, and also, weed out the softhearted.

But the point behind these “war games” seems to be the practice of killing. The dog is tied and defenseless, they may as well practice stabbing a tree because it would provide the same self-defense… none.

I have an idea, maybe they should practice the stabbing on each other, at least that would give them a bit of competition against someone ABLE to resist and fight back.
Dogs Die to Teach Peru’s Soldiers How to Kill

Barechested commandos brandishing knives take turns to charge towards a live dog, tied and spreadeagled between vertical poles. They slash and stab the helpless, yelping animal until it dies. Then, in a grotesque act of military machismo, the soldiers eat the dog’s heart and drink its blood.

The troops belong to the Peruvian army and the slaughter of the dog is the climax of a series of ‘bravery tests’ to train them to be ruthless killers.

The barbaric ritual has been uncovered by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), a British charity which last night expressed disgust at the cruelty.

Jonathan Owen, a spokesman for the charity, said: ‘This is one of the worst cases of animal cruelty we have ever come across. Unlike most other forms of animal abuse, there is no commercial motive behind this.

‘It is pure, unadulterated cruelty. They are using an animal that cannot defend itself to practise killing. They call it war games but this game always ends in the animal’s death.’

The cruelty was recorded by a cameraman who was invited to film the army’s Otorongo Command Group 125, near Lima, the Peruvian capital. Shocked by what he saw, the cameraman passed the video to the WSPA.

The film shows the soldiers doing a number of other tests before they attack the dog. These include running through a ring of fire, and standing in a circle throwing a grenade to each other before one of them tosses it into the middle and they all dive to the ground as it explodes.

For the final challenge the soldiers run 20 yards towards the suspended dog, clutching an attack knife with an eight-inch blade. Some slash the animal just once; the more enthusiastic stab it repeatedly.

The mongrel can move its head but is otherwise utterly defenceless. It can only scream as the knives rip through its skin. Worse, the dog is a camp pet that belongs to the soldiers, an extra detail to ensure that these killers are rendered truly heartless, unhindered by emotion or sentiment.

Once the animal is dead and the soldiers have completed the test, they put their hands into the open wounds, pull out the innards and heart, tear them up and eat them.

The aim is to turn them into men who are not merely untroubled by the sight of blood, but positively relish it.

The brutal ritual ends with one of the soldiers putting the dog around his neck like a victory laurel and leading the troop on a ‘lap of honour’ around the training ground.

Sick mofos can see honor in killing a tied up animal… wow, I wonder what the dishonor side is like for the peruvian soldier boys?

But what it really does come down to is this quote…

‘People who are trained to protect the civil, religious or democratic acts of a nation should never be required to behave in such a way. It’s frightening to think what kind of people those soldiers will be when they come out of the army.’

How can anyone trained in that way be expected to do the “right thing” when protecting the civilian population.?

This is some sick shit... some military men are really psychopath. Even if (believing what i have read) there is a lot of dogs in the streets of bolivia (a ratio of 10 dogs for each citizen according to some sources) this is definatly not a good way to solve the problem, especially if torture occurs.

According to another source, the pratice stopped in Bolivia but is still going on in other countries..

This is pretty messed up, Atleast most army's opt out of dogs and prefer to shoot little paper cutouts. Its not even like the dogs are moving, if soldiers had to practice shooting dogs that were running arround, atleast then there would be some kind of advantage to the training session (Not that i condone the kiling of annimals for any reason other than food or self deffence, just saying). This is bassically a sick way of putting down dogs, who whould even think of this?

On a totally unrelated note: I like how Ungovernable's signature is like a rebuttal to mine.

Thats so sad and unnecessary, Its bad enough they they kill a creature that is unable to fight back but then rip it up and tear out organs to eat and drag the carcass around. How heartless can you train a person to be?

Absolutely. How can someone be heartless to that level? Combat training in this way could give nothing but a false impression that they can kill their enemies as well. They forget that enemies would fight back unlike the tied up dogs.
