I'm coming from Portland. My background in anarchy isn't much, while I'd hope to think it's more than others, I'm not to sure. Growing up in a military family I didn't have much of a choice how I grew up, the religions was feed and so forth. When I discovered punk rock I felt at home, needless to say my family life suffered and then I dove into meth use. I'm clean (well, struggling...It's hard on a day to day basis and I'm sure it's always going to be something I'm going to suffer with) I discovered the topic and idea of anarchy through the punk bands Crass, Anti-Flag (while not so much a 'punk' band anymore I will admit that they're lyrics have helped many become more politically aware -- hopefully just not through a lyric sheet tho...) A//Political, MDC and so on...

I've spent time behind the bass and prefer to spend my time doing zine work.

And like I said, my knowledge of anarchy is limited (at the time) so please bare with me if I get it wrong here and there.

    -K.

    welcome.

i've used meth myself, and watch it destroy more relationships than i care to mention. good luck with whatever way you choose to live your life, "with or without". don't worry about getting anarchism wrong, it's a broad philosophy. no one has the right to define it, which is why i sympathize with it's intentions.

    Hey, thanks!

I'm always up for learning so if there's anything (written or music wise) you think I should check out, please let me know.

Another thing I've realized, just from lurking across these boards (and any other anarchist-esque forum for that matter) some of you seem to be the nicest/caring people I've met in "net-land" which is great when people seem to do nothing more than shit talk and slander, so yeah...Its great that a fourm like this is even around.

As for meth, I was wondering does substance use fit in with an anarchist society? While I'm clean from hard use, I'll still smoke and drink. Since from what I've seen most seem to be straight edge.

Straight edge? Where I come from there are no straight edgers at the moment as the new hip trend for US style hc seems to be a dirty rocker, like Annihilation Time and such... There were a few people that were anarchist and straight edge, but they were always a tiny minority.

I'm afraid I can't say anything really nice about local straight edge scene that was flourishing in the 90's, as there was always very few people involved with anarchism or any kind of positive activism. Some were just genuine nice folks, but some of the more influential straight edgers have since crossed over to the dark side so to say... Around here it was always closer to tough guy macho scene, than anarcho or whatever.

straight edge. fuck no. btw, neither is ian mackaye, i've met him. and he wrote the song that "invented" a generation of literalist fuckwits. it's not his fault people are sheep. eat, drink and be merry. or die "poor".

It's interresting how the whole "abuse-culture" is different from one country to another. Here in Denmark a lot of the crusties and anarchopunx are straight edge, and hard drugs (everthing stronger than hash and pot) are totally banned from the scene.

That's interesting, the town I was from before moving to Portland was a few miles away from Chico, Ca. and that's basically the way much of the punk/crusty scene was there. Which was one of the main reasons I was always turn off of the anarchist lifestyle that they promoted there, because it always left me feeling like I wasn't doing enough just because I wanted to do something different with my body.
