    But wouldn't it be publicity to wear fake leather too? the look is still there.

    But personally, i think it's fine if vegans wear fake leather, they show that there is a good and cruelty free alternative that can give the exact same look and all.

    I'm lacto-vegetarian, but i wear my leather boots, belt and jacket still. I just don't buy more. It's second hand stuff and i've had it for long, i see no reason to let it go to waste.

    I think i know who your talking about. I'll leave her unnamed. I'm not vegan, but definitely object to it, the way i see it, when she takes the carcass's off the ground she's providing less food for for decomposers

    in the american society your still being "bad" to animals if you buy it or not. they kill the cow for meat, if you dont buy it it rots, and the cow died for no reason. if you buy it/eat it the cow died to sustain your life. its a problem created buy production farms.<rant> + in the interests of preserving animal life, and human safety its needed to have animals die, you either have predators running around i.e. coyotes, wolfs, lynx, cougars, ect. and not just out in the woods where people wont see it, any where there is small animals rabbits, squirrels ect. either humans can kill them or predetors can, humans is a better method as most people dont like the thought of having there dog getting killed by a wolf because they live in the suburbs, or having to make sure the kids are safe when they go outside, and you cant just have neither the small animals will reproduce and use up all their resources and then they will all die.</rant>(not be an ass hole or anything those are just the facts as i see them) i also dont see a difference in plant/animal life, if you eat a carrot its still dead/you killed it to eat thats no different than killing a cow, just the cow moves makes sound.

    the less animals consumed/used for product, the less animals killed.
    and as far as the relationship of predator/prey in nature;

    "It can take a few minutes for prey to die in a predator’s jaws, but the animal at least had a natural life; unconfined, free from boredom, and able to live in family groups. But, this is not a sound argument: animals kill to survive whereas most humans have no need to do so. Some animals do kill when it is not necessary, but this is because animals cannot understand the moral implications of harming others. Carnivores have evolved to eat other animals. It is a very basic instinct for them. Unlike them, we do not have an uncontrollable urge to chase small animals, and unlike them we can think logically about our actions."

    yes but in the american society the animal is allready killed you dont buy a steak and then they go kill a cow to make it, its allready dead if you dont buy the steak its still dead. it doesnt matter if you eat the meat or not its allready dead and made into meat. so if i personally dont buy some meat it wont make any difference accept then it died for no reason/was not used. e.g. if you make 1000 cotton tee shirts and no one buys/wants any of them you still have a thousand tee shirts. if you kill 1000 cows and only 980 of them got bought, the other 20 are still dead just no one used it.
    animals have no concept of limited resources they just live and reproduce, some of them need to die for the rest of them to live, otherwise all the resources will be used up and they will die/leave the area. if there arent natural means i.e. predators than it takes human means i.e. hunting. ( was not talking about farming, farming is just useless killing) in nature animals have to be killed for them as a whole to survive. if you live anywhere there is animals there will have to be larger carnivours to kill them. people dont want wolfs killing their pets/other people consiquently their population is realllly low because people are killing them to protect their pets if you do that you have to then kill some amount of animals.
    e.g. at leech lake in mn, there are protected birds, "comarants" or something dont know how to spell, so no one was killing them and they ended up with like 5000pairs in a couple years, and then suddenly that year/year after theres almost no fish at all in the pretty big lake, so they hired some guys to shoot like 2000 of them and the next year there was a higher fish population, now they shoot like 2000 of them a year now there is still like 3-4000 of the birds around the lake but now there is a fish population also. they started shooting them like 2 years ago. 2000 birds that had to be killed could have fed quite a few homeless people or could have all gone to waste.
    it got to the point that the state hired people to kill endagered animals in the interest of not killing of the entire fish population of a pretty big lake

    In regards to the original discussion:

    Any vegans I know are actually grossed out by the thought of wearing leather.
    They don't like the thought of wearing an innocent creatures skin for fashion.
    Obviously it's different for everyone but the few vegans I know have no problem not wearing leather because it simply disgusts them. Very understandable.

    I have a fake leather jacket, i bought it because i liked it and i even paid it less than a real leather jacket. I just think it's not a good thing to kill animals for their skin. I am not vegan or vegetarian, but wearing leather, in my opinion, in similar to wearing fur : you wear a dead animal in both ways. Unluckily my grandma loves fur, and has kinda like 10 fur coats and jackets, even a baby leopard one. When i was a child i always kept asking her 'why you buy real fur stuff even if the fake one seems real too? don't you think about the poor animals that died for making the coat you're wearing now?'. She never gave me an answer, in 17 years. I am still waiting for it.
