Seriously guys, give him a break. Even if his name were from a Blink182 song, it's just a fucking screen name - i've had mine since i was 8 years old playing Red Alert on a Windows 95. A lot have happened since then.

He said he used to, but now they are shit, he's obviously not listening to it anymore - why keep on?

Apart from that, many of us listens to a few commercial bands, if nothing else for nostalgia.

Take your name of a song from a band that inspires you - all of us do it :p
    - And that was only partially a joke

ive found that a name for a band should be like a center point of all your songs like the one thing all the songs you guys have that relate to the same thing

The bad thing about your name being the center point for all of your songs is that it would pigeon hole you, and not give you room to grow. For instance if Bad Religion only sang anti-religious songs they would get boring after a while and no one would listen, if Thatcher On Acid only sang about Margret Thatcher their music would be dated and no one would continue to listen.... For my band I just got a name that really stuck with me and had meaning, and I have found multiple references that support what I wanted it to mean. But band names come from songs titles/lyrics, movie names, quotes, and sometimes just random words, find what suits you and what you would want to stick with.

The band im in is named "Just Society" because it has a double meaning. As in a society that is just (just as in good), and also that its just (just as in only) society (like society isnt important, like its some disposable thing that you would throw away). It dosent actually make that much sense now that i think abut it, and we dont play much punk music either. We play a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers and 90's grunge. But still, its fun to have some secret meaning behind your band name.

    the simple way is..
firstm just think about the topic..what do you wanna to say about your song..
second, think about the rhyme, so your lyric will going better
and the last, make a good tone for your songs..!
    enjoy..

Naming a band after another bands songs is a big no no in my opinion. For one you will always be looked at as trying to copy them, also it shows a lack of originality and creativeness. There's no real right or wrong way to name a band though. I've always thought the name TOOL for a band was one of the best, it's simple, random, and effective. I've also never been a fan of band names starting with THE. or ending in S. just a personal prefrence I guess.

No fan of bands starting with The and ending with S? :lmao: You're in the wrong genre! It's a tradition amongst punk bands :p
    - joking -

Seriously, i don't see the problem in naming after a song. All musicians has inspirations, and many understand how to sound different than their idols - it's all about if it's a good band or not.

I play in a band named after an art movie that inspired us a lot - It's quite the same thing, and the music in that movie has been a big inspiration too

hmm... id go to the point of picking out some random words that could describe your ideals or what your all bout, or that you just think sound cool, and join them.
e.g. anarchy, revolution, nihilism, death, ect. could be like revarchy, nihilarchy, nihilution, devolution, deihlism,

yeah but not as much with anarcho-punk bands, personally i think that way of naming is cheesy, as that was how pretty much every band name was back in the beginning of rock n roll, but to each their own, I certainly don't avoid a band based on their name (if so I wouldn't be rocking out to bands like The Astronauts, The Cherry Coke$ or even The Stooges)

Your way of combining names is how my last band got our name, Randomosity, we just combines RANDOm and aniMOSITY.

Naming a band after a movie (to me) is a lot different and better then after another bands works.

Speaking of which I always thought VOID WHERE PROHIBITED or THIS SIDE UP would make great band names...

I gotta disagree... How about Stiff Little Fingers who were named after the Vibrators song... the bands didn't sound too much alike, but the name was great. Just my opinion though.

If I see a band that got their name from a band I like, there is a good chance I will check them out because we have something in common, ya know. It's like if I see someone wearing a patch or a shirt of a band I like I will be more likely to talk to them because we have that commonality.

I don't know if I would use another band's song as a band name, but don't necessarily see a problem with it.
